- "This species goes dormant after flowering, until the following spring. The bulbs are best harvested just as they flower."
- — Zygmunt Budge, Book of Potions[src]
The bulb of the squill is a structure that functions as food storage organs during the dormant state of the plant. Squill bulbs had potion-making properties and were best harvested just after the plants flowered.[1]
Squill was used by Muggles to manufacture cough medicines, while wizards used it as an ingredient for Felix Felicis — renowned Potioneer Zygmunt Budge remarked that it was perhaps the squill that gave Felix Felicis its smooth texture.[1]
