Stephen "Steve" McClaren was the manager of the England national football team by July of 1996. When the team's captain John Terry could not complete a practise due to a reoccurrence of a knee injury, McClaren made the decision to replace him with Sol Campbell for the upcoming group E fixture against the Russia national football team in Moscow.[1]
