This curse (incantation unknown) was placed on the Sunken Vault so that anyone that entered would relive their worst memories.

History

When Merula Snyde, Ben Copper, Jacob and his sibling entered the Sunken Vault in 1990, they were affected by this curse. Jacob's sibling experienced Merula's hostility, Patricia Rakepick turning on them in the Buried Vault, and Rowan Khanna's death. Merula was the only one that was not affected by the curse as her aunt gave her a potion to prevent the curse from affecting her.

As the Crown of Mneme was locked in the Sunken Vault, it became affected by this curse, causing the wearer to relive their worst memories. Jacob experienced this firsthand after wearing the Crown in the Shrieking Shack under "R"'s orders, forcing him to remove the Crown due to the pain.

Behind the scenes

• If the player stranded Rakepick in the Sunken Vault when they re-sealed it, during the player's Azkaban visit in the next school year, Rakepick will tell them about herself being affected by the curse and seeing all the people she killed over and over again. If the player chose to turn Rakepick in, then they would mention the curse themself, which was something the player saved Rakepick from.
