- "She waved her wand and the lamps went out."
- — Trelawney dimming lamps with her wand[src]
The wand of Sybill Trelawney was 9½" long, made of hazel wood with a unicorn hair core.[1]
History[]
During the 1994–1995 school year, Trelawney used her wand during a fourth year Divination lesson to extinguish the lamps nonverbally in the Divination Classroom so she could show her students a planetary model.[2]
During the 1995–1996 school year, while she was being sacked by Dolores Umbridge, Trelawney held her wand in one hand, with a bottle of sherry in the other, looking utterly mad.[3]
During the Battle of Hogwarts on 2 May 1998, Trelawney used her wand to send crystal balls flying at Death Eaters with a "tennis-like serve".[4]
Behind the scenes[]
- Sybill Trelawney's name is misspelt as Sybil Trelawney on the box and name clip.
- This wand bears a resemblance to Sirius Black's wand, though there are slight differences. They both have a square-like handle and have magical runes depicted on the wand, but Trelawney's wand has a darker colour and has a swirly shape from the handle to the tip.
- Hazel wands work best for a master who understands and can manage their feelings.[5] This is something Trelawney wasn't particularly good at, as she resorted to alcoholism.
