Neat bit of trivia[]

As I couldn't find a reference anywhere on the internet to Emanuel and Kay Hurwitz ever having performed at a St. Mary's Church on May 7th in real life, I concluded that the poster must be an original prop created by the Harry Potter art department, rather than a real concert poster brought in to decorate the set. This lead me to wonder why anyone in the art department would choose to make a fake poster referencing real musicians.

The surprising answer I found: Emanuel and Kay Hurwitz are Harry Potter graphic artist Miraphora Mina's grandparents (or, more specifically, her stepgrandfather and grandmother).

I pieced this information together from various sources:

  • In an obituary for Emanuel Hurwitz by Anne Inglis in The Guardian, "stepdaughter Jackie, from Kay's first marriage" is identified as being among Hurwitz's surviving relations.
  • In the book Talks with Emanuel Hurwitz: 82 Years with the Violin by Riki Gerardy, which I found on Google Books, it is noted that "Jackie married artist and scenic designer Michael Minas" (page 72), and "Jackie has become rather famous for her jewellery design. Her daughter, Miraphora Mina, is also well known as a concept artist and graphic designer" (page 109).
  • In the catalogue for her exhibition Touching Gold, Jacqueline Mina offers thanks to "The artist Michael Minas, my husband". Michael Minas's profile on Saatchi Online likewise notes he is "married to goldsmith Jacqueline Mina."

All of these people are publicly known artists who've apparently openly disclosed their relation to each other, but I'm still wondering if this information is too personal to include in the article. Thoughts? Starstuff (Owl me!) 17:36, September 15, 2012 (UTC)

Wow... that's very interesting, as in "Voldemort-is-Lily's-great-great-grandfather's-best-friend's-grandson's-son-in-law" interesting. Yes, I think it ought to be added to the article. Hunnie Bunn (talk) 17:44, September 15, 2012 (UTC)
