Married?[]
What does she become after she and Harry get married? Harry and Ron are Aurors, so what about her? She becomes a celebrated Chaser of The Holyhead Harpies for a few years and the retires and becomes Senior Quidditch correspondent for the Daily Prophet.

I just read this article and I always thought that her name was short for "Virginia"(especially since "Ginerva" is a fictional name. Heheh! Other than that it was very well written. Good job. 69.81.178.253 07:14, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Actually Ginevra is not a fictitious name, it is of welsh origin and means "soft" or "fair".

Article Image[]
Personally, I like the image of her next to her physical description more than the main image that is there now. The current image has the top of her head cut off, and the other shows a bit more of her torso. Hufflepuff Half-Giant 08:57, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
I don't like the new image. The picture is of Bonnie Wright and not of Ginny. We could change it to a picture of her in the movie. Personally I like the picture from the beginning of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Chapter Seven, The Will of Albus Dumbledore. But, that includes Harry in the picture as well, so I don't think everybody would like it. However, that does not change, that the picture is of the actress, not of the actress while she is playing Ginny. Sorry if that was kind of confusingAllsevenbooks (talk) 16:10, July 11, 2014 (UTC)

Ginny Potter?[]
Where does it say that she takes Harry's name?... very wrong to change it imo213.200.162.193 22:47, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
- In the epilogue to the Deathly Hallows, the five of them (Harry, Ginny, James, Albus and Lily) are specifically referred to as the "five Potters", thus making her an official Potter. - Cavalier One 06:59, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
Yeah it could very well say that because saying the four potters and one weasley is a lot less efficient —The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:74.98.255.194|74.98.255.194 (User talk:74.98.255.194|talk • contribs).

Maybe in the UK, but not here in the US. --Lupin & Kingsley 22:45, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
- Actually, in the entire English-speaking world, there has been a slow increase in women keeping their names since the 20th century. In 2004, 10% of American married women kept their maiden names. Oread (talk) 23:01, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

- From what we've seen so far, yes, but we can't assume that this is the case for every single witch, especially those that come from the Muggle world and might get the custom of keeping their maiden names from there (we don't know, for instance, if Hermione took Ron's name when they married). We know Ginny did take Harry's name, because she was included in "the five Potters" in the epilogue of Deathly Hallows. Oread (talk) 00:58, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

Her being included among the "five Potters" doesn't prove that she took her husband's last name; she may still be a Weasley but included among the "five Potters" for convenience; after all, Rowling never states explicitly whether Ginny took her husband's last name. Even if she took her husband's last name, the article title should still call her by her maiden name because that's what fans knew her by thruout the 7 HP books.Hallj36 05:50, March 28, 2012 (UTC)
Family[]
Out of curosity, since she is married to Harry, are does that make her and Dudley Dursley cousins by marriage? -- Cubs Fan2007 21:07, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
- Technically, maybe. Thing is, I wouldn't consider my girlfriend's cousins to be my cousins if we were married. They would be her cousins, not mine, and I wouldn't refer to them as such. I think we're getting a little carried away with all the family relations around here. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 21:13, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
- Who said anything about getting carried away? Like I said, I was just asking out of curiosity; for some unknown reason, the question just hit me. It's not like I sit around and obssess about this stuff all day; that would be getting carried away. I read or hear something HP-related, and these thoughs come into my head unbidden. Cubs Fan2007 01:14, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
- My apologies. I keep seeing the family lists on characters growing out of proportion. That's my take on the situation, though, but I understand that family designations do change depending on what country you're from. Some would class them as cousins, others don't. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 10:41, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Recent edit[]
This is a note on my recent edit of this article. Props to the original author, but there were a great deal of reference tags in the article, one after each paragraph and often several in the content of the paragraphs which referenced where each sentence came from. I removed those tags as I felt they were needless. I also removed a lot of connecting words in sentences, which did nothing for the content and only made the article lengthy. I rearranged some timeline content as well. I removed the entire "Character Analysis," because it is, in my opinion, just fanon. Character analysis can take place on forums, in my opinion. I took out anything that said "many fans believe" or "fans say", etc. I also removed outdated info on the 5th movie release date. Mafalda Hopkirk 18:36, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
- Mafalda, I rewrote the article and got it to FA status on the strength of the rewrite. I have undone the revision, but have left out the character analysis since I agree with you. As for the reference tags, there are multiple tags since it is important to know where such information comes from in case of doubt. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 22:35, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not sure I understand why there would be doubt where that information came from. Mafalda Hopkirk 00:25, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
- Sourcing of articles is, in my opinion, vital to stop fanon creeping into articles. For instance, earlier today we found out the names of the rest of the Weasley grandchildren. If the anon who posted the info hadn't put a reference tag showing where it came from, I would have reverted the edits believing them to be fanon. I did the same with Astoria Greengrass since no source was referenced. In longer character articles, where information is spread over seven books, each piece of information should be sourced so we know which book it came from, since information is never revealed in chronological order, and earlier events may be recounted in later books. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 01:14, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
- I agree with you about citation, but that only seems to be helpful with specific information that only appears once or twice in the entire series, like for instance the source of the password for the One-Eyed Witch passage. I don't feel that Ginny's shyness towards Harry would need to be cited. I wonder if you'd reconsider reverting the entirety of my edit. There is an interview by JKR that appears on the HP Lexicon in which she states Ginny was "in no way possessed by Voldemort." - http://www.accio-quote.org/articles/2005/0705-tlc_mugglenet-anelli-3.htm Mafalda Hopkirk 12:13, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
- My reading of that quote is that she is no longer posessed by Voldemort, but that she was during the Chamber of Secrets. She describes the feeling and sensation to Harry at Grimmauld Place when he is worried that he is being possessed and attacked Arthur Weasley. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 13:17, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
Actually i think that you are right on that point. I think still that there are some valuable differences between our two edits. Mafalda Hopkirk 13:32, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
- The problem I have is that you removed a lot of information, including images and quotes. This article is as comprehensive and complete as I could make it. I spent weeks reading and re-reading the books, making pages of notes of Ginny's appearances and references, and compiling images for use before starting work. It was my first major contribution to the wiki, and I still think it's my best and most complete rewrite. It's not perfect by any means, and anything you do to make it better is appreciated and welcomed. But I don't feel that stripping out large chunks of information is improvement, especially for a Featured Article. Perhaps working on a rewrite together will work? Create a subpage and discuss all changes point by point until we're both happy? - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 20:38, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
- I certainly didn't mean to disrespect you by editing the article, and I apologize if that's what i did. I took out some of the images because when i looked at the article, it looked crowded and i wasn't sure if all of the images were necessary. When it says text is removed, i wonder if it counts the reference tags as well. Though they're not really visible on the page, there are a lot of text characters in each reference tag, which would make for a lot of text being removed. I do think some of the sentences could be reworded to cut down on the length of some of them. For instance, the sentence "When the Hogwarts Express returned to King's Cross in June, 1992, Ginny was with her mother to welcome her brothers back, and was again excited to see Harry, pointing him out to her mother as he came through the barrier between platforms nine and ten.[6]" Could be reworded to say, "In June 1992, Ginny and her mother returned to King's Cross to welcome her brothers home, again excited to see Harry." I kind of did that to a lot of sentences, which also accounts for the amount of text characters removed. Anyway, i can see the article means a lot to you, so i will leave it be. Mafalda Hopkirk 22:08, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Proposing to move this article to Ginny Weasley[]
It would be better for this article to be titled 'Ginny Weasley' rather than 'Ginerva Weasley' as Ginny is the name she is most commonly known by. Her full name should of course remain in the lead but the article itself refers to her throughout as 'Ginny' so having the title use the name 'Ginerva' makes no sense. About her possesiveness[]
I think this must be noted in 'personality' that she is a bit possessive about Harry. In hp7 when Harry asks Cho to take him to her common room she pointedly refers Luna for that.Remusblack 10:23, January 15, 2010 (UTC)
I wouldn't call her possessive, but yeah, there are moments like at the end of HBP where Harry compliments Fleur and then has to make a hasty correction after the look he receives from Ginny. Hcoknhoj 15:44, January 15, 2010 (UTC)

Is she or isn't she[]
I dissaprove of the use of the past tense when describing Ginny's blood status. " . . . born on August 11, 1981, was a pure-blood witch, the youngest of Arthur and Molly Weasley's seven children . . . "
This grammatical error needs to be changed. There is no way her blood status could change. It should read " . . . born on August 11, 1981, is a pure-blood witch, the youngest of Arthur and Molly Weasley's seven children . . . ".

Ginny's room was on the first landing not the thrid as stated in this article. It is mentioned in the Deathly Hallows, that Ginny's room was on the first landing. Please change this. GinnyWeasley28 00:57, July 27, 2013 (UTC)
- It's not a grammatical error. It was a policy decision, voted on and approved, to use past tense exclusively when referring to in-universe characters. See here for details. - Nick O'Demus 12:54, February 28, 2010 (UTC)
Appearances[]
In the appearances section of the Ginny article, her appearence in Deathly Hallows is denoted as:
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (First identified with the name 'Ginevra' instead of 'Ginny')
The reference from this is:
- ↑ by her aunt, Muriel
This is incorrect. Ginny is first identified by a charcter in Chapter 3 (The Seven Potters).
Ron mentions her when he says 'I knew Ginny was lying about that tatoo' means that she was first.
He uses Ginny, not Ginevra.
Can someone clarify for me? 80.5.29.64 10:52, April 9, 2010 (UTC)

Eye Colour[]
Under the physical description, should it be noted that Ginny's eye colour changes over the course of the series? I recall from somewhere in the second book, the phrase, "a pair of bright green eyes", describing Ginny. Of course, later on, they become brown.
Something that's bothered me for a while.
Nope, in the second book, on page 40, Rowlilng clearly stated "Harry just caught a pair of bright brown eyes staring at him before it closed with a snap. 'Ginny,' said Ron. 'You don't know how weird it is for her to be this shy.'"
According to the policy, Rowling's word is law. You must have been thinking Harry because Harry has the bright green eyes. Slim it Greenie (talk) 22:19, December 19, 2017 (UTC)

Ginny could have been born before Fabian died[]
As someone mentioned for the Fabian article, the footnote stating that Ginny was born after the war is incorrect. Ginny was born in August 1981 and the war didn't end until October 1981. If Gideon and Fabian were killed between these times, they could well have seen Ginny, even if only as a small infant. I did go and correct the footnotes about a month ago, but someone changed them back. I hope the error gets corrected again at somepoint and actually stays corrected. 2.219.136.233 11:17, September 28, 2011 (UTC)
Name[]
I think it is safer to call Ginny "Ginny Weasley" rather than "Ginny Potter", because she may have kept her maiden name; plus, she is commonly known to fans as Weasley because the bulk of the series takes place before she was married, so i think she should be called by her maiden name for convenience reasons. Plus, as a strong supporter of gender equality, i think women should keep their maiden names.Hallj36 05:33, March 28, 2012 (UTC)

I'd suggest changing it back to one of the previous descriptions, "Ginny was often described as a small girl, taking after her mother and brothers Fred and George in stature. Like the rest of the Weasley family, she has vivid red hair that she wore long, and it was often described as a "mane" – which was appropriate for a Gryffindor, whose symbol was a lion. She has bright brown eyes like her mother[3], and when she set her jaw, she bore a striking resemblance to Fred and George. When she blushed, which was often around Harry in the early years of their friendship, she would go so red that it was said to match her hair.[4][9] She was considered to be very attractive, and garnered a lot of attention from boys when she was at school[12]. "

Through the years picture[]
In the caption of the 'Ginny through the years' picture (at the end of the article), it says that in the last two pictures are 'Ginny age 16' and 'Ginny age 17', but I believe these are incorrect. The second to last picture appears to be from Bill's wedding day (Aug 1, 1997) which is before Ginny's 16th b-day (Aug 11, 1997). Similarly the last picture appears to be from the Battle of Hogwarts (May 2, 1998) which is before her 17th b-day (Aug 11, 1998).

The wedding took place after Ginny's sixteenth birthday - remember how she made out with Harry, Ron got mad at him, and then they had to start preparing for the wedding. Since she's sixteen right before the wedding, it must mean she's seventeen before the battle. Hunnie Bunn (talk) 21:17, September 21, 2012 (UTC)
- Actually, the anon is right. Hunnie Bunn, you are mixing up Harry and Ginny's birthdays (31 July, 1980 and 11 August, 1981, respectively) — the kiss episode was on Harry's 17th birthday, one day before Bill and Fleur's wedding. Ginny would only turn 16 on 11 August of that year (1997) and, logically, she was still 15 during the wedding (which was on 1 August). And, of course, she turned 17 in August, 1998 — three months after the Battle of Hogwarts. -- Seth Cooper owl post! 00:47, September 22, 2012 (UTC)
- That is true. My apologies, 71.171.94.117. Yes, I now see. Should I change it, or needn't I ask anymore? --Hunnie Bunn (talk) 00:53, September 22, 2012 (UTC)
- The "age 9" caption is incorrect. We never see Ginny at age 9. She turned 10 on August 11, before she accompanies her mother to see off her brothers on September 1. 97.80.123.216 01:29, October 7, 2012 (UTC)AuroraB
- Since when was the wedding a day after Harry's birthday? I swear it was on his birthday, in the DH1 film at least, because after the wedding gets gatecrashed by Death Eaters and they apparate to Shaftesbury Avenue/Tottenham Court Road, Hermione quotes: "We didn't celebrate your Birthday, Harry! Ginny and I, we prepared a cake, we were going to bring it out at the end of the wedding!". Yeah, just a thought. MrSiriusBlack (talk) 18:34, January 8, 2013 (UTC)
- We have to go with book canon if the book gives us something to go by. And the book clearly says "Three o'clock on the following afternoon." ProfessorTofty (talk) 21:16, January 8, 2013 (UTC)

- Besides, on the book, they do celebrate Harry's 17th birthday, with a Snitch-shaped cake and all, just before Scrimgeour arrives to deliver the contents of Dumbledore's will. -- Seth Cooper owl post! 21:59, January 8, 2013 (UTC)
profile picture[]
Can we change the profile picture i'm pretty sure the picture we have now is a Half-Blood Prince promo pic, I say we update it. I like this one.
Birthday[]
If Ginny was truly born in 11 Aug 1981, then she would not be of age to fight in the Battle of Hogwarts. But the books said Bellatrix was duelling Ginny, Hermione and Luna at a time. So...? AB Ng Talk
- It also mentions earlier in the same book that her family tried to force her to go back home, but she snuck into the battle regardless of their warnings. Simply put, she was indeed born on 11 August, 1981, but was not of age. --Hunnie Bunn (talk) 04:08, August 29, 2014 (UTC)
Personality and traits[]
We need to put in some flaws of her character, otherwise this will make her LOOK like a Mary Sue. I love Ginny very much (my favourite character), but her flaws need to be recognized. For example, her hotheadedness, can be somewhat arrogant, her insecurities that led to her writing in the diary, etc...
Appearance in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child[]
Possible appearance in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. I mean I think she has to be there but for reasons obvious I suggest that we add her appearance in it as a possibility.

Ginny's retirement[]
The reference for Ginny's retirement is strange. James was born between 1 September 2003 and 31 August 2004. The reference says Ginny had to have retired in 2002 had James been born in 2003. But she wouldn't have been pregnant then. Therefore, if she retired when she had James, then she could only have retired in 2003 at the earliest.
But how do we even know she retired when she had James? I know Rowling said she eventually retired to care for her three children, but she could have gotten pregnant with James, took some time out and returned to play before she had Albus.
And how do we know for certain that Ginny and Harry were married by then? There seems to be an assumption that they married as soon as they left school, had James and then she retired at the age of just 23/24. I can't find a source from Rowling to back that up. They could have married after they had a child. The same goes to Ron and Hermione. The only thing that is certain, is that they were married by 2017. What does everyone think? -- Kates39 (talk) 18:27, February 25, 2017 (UTC)
Ginny and Molly's eyes[]
In books, Ginny and Molly's eyes are described as brown, so... why here they are listed as hazel? Books are canonical rather than movies, right?
- Technically, the books beat anything from the films so their eyes should be listed as brown! Hazel stems from the Harry Potter Limited Edition where there is a film prop stating her eyes are hazel but I will change the infoboxes to reflect the books description. -- Kates39 (talk) 17:50, April 2, 2017 (UTC)
- Well super-duper technically ;) Ginny is said to have "a pair of bright brown eyes" in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Chapter 3 (The Burrow) so I don't think hazel is way off the mark. While this might be a turn of phrase (bright as in shiny), Winky is later described as having dark brown eyes in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 8 (The Quidditch World Cup) so bright could also be a tone modifier of brown. Or do you think it would have to be hyphenated i.e. bright-brown? I already updated the refs for both and included the HPLE info for Molly as hazel and bright brown seem quite similar, but I'm not feeling as sure as when I started this paragraph :) Thoughts? --Ironyak1 (talk) 04:03, April 3, 2017 (UTC)
Please replace a source that is a broken link[]
I cannot edit the article, as I'm a new user. The article's source for Ginny taking the last name Potter required an account on the old Pottermore site, so that page is not archived and the old site it was on no longer exists, so the current source is inaccessible. I've found a suitable alternative source. Please change:

Descendant categories[]
In order to unlock the protection on the page, I need everyone to be on the same page. Ginny was the great-granddaughter of Lysandra Yaxley and great-great granddaughter of Ursula Flint. I don't think it was wrong to add Category:Yaxley family descendants and Category:Flint family descendants to her page. Why did the edit keep getting undone? - Kates39 (talk) 11:49, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
- I kept on adding the categories and the other user kept on removing them. They asked me for proof, I gave them it and then they continued to remove it. So yeah, have you seen the categories? It has all the members except Ginny and it's frustating because I see no reason why it was continually removed. - Zayden
Wizards category[]
Hello, I cannot discern the reason why the "Wizards" category on this page and so many others (Quidditch players) have the category listed at the top of the category order, despite in source editor, the category is in its correct alphabetical place. I have noticed the same thing with "Gobstone players", despite that category not applying on this page. RedWizard98 (talk) 19:48, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
