Myths tend to come out of embellishments, exaggerations or political spin associated with battles. Whoever the Gorgons were, they created such fright in their opponents that they froze on the spot. I think that the lesson is that if you look at what you fear indirectly or peripherally, it is easier to face since one can then think (keep one's wits about you) rather than react with emotion.
Doing name definitions, most of which started off as compound words, as far back as I can (on old slow computer), I've noticed that beautiful tended to be equated with gentle and kind - and ugly tended to be equated with fierce and frightening. Medusa article?[]
Since this image mentions her by name, should we make a "Medusa (Gorgon)" page? I mean - stories from Christian mythology/tradition, like the slaying of the giant Goliath by a young boy and other myths, like that of Merlin is secretly true in-universe, so with the name confirmed, wouldn't this be just another such example?
