This one's tough... Which category should it fall into? --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 22:13, October 31, 2009 (UTC)

I put it under Category:Psychology because it relates to the mind. However, in the Harry Potter universe, memories can also be physical objects. I wish JKR would have revealed the name of the silver fluid that memories become when extracted from someone's mind. Starstuff (Owl me!) 00:22, November 1, 2009 (UTC)

Is a spell necessary to withdraw a memory or you can do it just thinking and take if from your head? Dobby4ever 17:36, October 8, 2011 (UTC)

Removing the Memory

This article says that placing a memory in the pensieve removes it completely from your head, and that legilimency cannot even view it if in a pensieve.

Where is this said? Because I was under the impression that it only made a copy of the memory, and didn't actually remove the entire memory from your head.

I believe this was implied from the scenes in Order of the Phoenix in which Snape placed certain memories of his in the Pensieve during his lessons with Harry-- secret thoughts that he wouldn't want Harry to getting at if Harry were to breach his defenses. If were just making a copy, then that wouldn't make sense-- why bother doing it all? If it only made a copy, then the original thought would still be there and there would be no point to trying to "hide" it through that method. ProfessorTofty 03:47, December 4, 2011 (UTC)
