Tarek was a wizard of Eastern heritage who lived in the 19th century.

Biography

Tarek attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where he met and fell in love with Ada from Marunweem. However, Ada's family did not approve of him due to his background. At one point in or before February 1890, Tarek spoke with Cragcroft locals about the activities of Ranrok's Loyalists there, and learnt that the secret work that they sought was in the nearby mountain. Longing to meet Ada, he thought it would be a good spot and wrote to her, asking her to Apparate to the mountain's western side Thursday evening. Upon meeting her, Tarek was delighted at first, only to be quickly interrupted when the Loyalists found and attacked them. He stayed behind for a while to fight them while Ada Disapparated. He wondered why the goblins were there and thought they possessed some Dark Magic that he did not understand. He remembered their brief discussion of eloping, and, having heard of magical communities in other countries such as Norway and Spain, wrote to Ada again to ask whether she was willing to elope.

It is implied through Ada's diary that they corresponded some more and reached the agreement to elope to Oslo, Norway, where an old witch Ada contacted was willing to give Tarek an apprenticeship. They intended to elope the next Monday. If they succeeded and reached safety, Tarek would've heard from Ada about her pregnancy.

Magical abilities and skills

• Apparition: Tarek proposed to Ada that they Apparate to each other in his letter, suggesting that he was capable of Apparition.
• Duelling: Tarek had some skills of magical fighting, as shown when he faced some goblins in the mountain near Cragcroft.
• Wandlore: The Norwegian witch who, according to Ada, would appreciate her knowledge of wand woods, willing to give Tarek an apprenticeship implies that Tarek had some skills or knowledge related to wandlore.

Etymology

Tarek's name is a variant form of the Arabic given name طارق, usually translittered as Tariq. This name is derived from the Arabic verb طرق ṭaraqa 'to strike', having been changed into the agentive conjugated doer form طارق ṭāriq 'striker'.
