- 20 December, 2012: The first seven chapters of Prisoner of Azkaban are unlocked on Pottermore.
- 21 November, 2012: The Second Pottermore House Cup is awarded. Gryffindor House is the winner, with a total of 48,538,348 points. Gryffindor members are, as a reward, able to download artwork of their common room as wallpapers and screensavers for their electronic devices.
- 13 November, 2012: Wonderbook: Book of Spells is released.
- 11 October, 2012: J. K. Rowling presents the webcast Harry Potter: Beyond the Page.
- 27 September, 2012: J. K. Rowling's new book, The Casual Vacancy, is published.
- 16 August, 2012: The Pottermore Shop begins selling eBook editions of Quidditch Through the Ages and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
- 9–12 August, 2012: LeakyCon 2012 will be held in Chicago, Illinois.
- 12–15 July, 2012: Ascendio 2012 will be held in Orlando, Florida.
- 5 July, 2012: The Inaugural Pottermore House Cup is awarded. Slytherin House is the winner, with a total of 74,290,864 points. As a special bonus, members of that house will gain access to the Chamber of Secrets section 24 hours before the other members.
- 4 July, 2012: Eric Sykes who played Frank Bryce in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire died after a short illness at the age of 89.
- 2 June – 30 September, 2012: Harry Potter: The Exhibition is open in Singapore.
- 1 May, 2012: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 receives six nominations for the 2012 MTV Movie Awards, to be held on June 3rd.
- 14 April, 2012: Pottermore ends its Beta period and opens to the public.
- 31 March, 2012: The Making of Harry Potter opens in London.
- 29 February, 2012: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 receives ten nominations for the 38th Annual Saturn Awards, to be held on June 20th.
- 24 January, 2012: Gary Oldman, Kenneth Branagh, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 all earn nominations for the 84th Academy Awards.
