The Absconder was a large female Acromantula that lived in her cave in the Forbidden Forest.[1]

Biography[]

Although Acromantulas weren't native to Great Britain, this female Acromantula mysteriously ended up in the region by the late 19th century. She was also believed to have mothered a number of other Acromantulas that would be observed in the region by the 1890s.[1]

In the late 19th century, a wizard named Milo came up with a plan to earn money by procuring Acromantula venom from this female Acromantula, which he had nicknamed "The Absconder". He and his friend, Edgar Adley, went into the Forbidden Forest, although Adley was unaware of the true nature of Milo's plan until it was too late. The two were unable to handle the Acromantula, which fatally wounded Milo. Before he died, he asked Edgar to take his heirloom pocket watch to give to his daughter, but Edgar was forced to flee immediately afterwards and left the pocket watch behind.[1]

In the 1890–1891 school year, Edgar encountered a new fifth-year Hogwarts student and told them about the situation. The student offered to collect the pocket watch for him, but Edgar declined their kindness, believing that The Absconder's Cave was far too dangerous. However, the student managed to locate the cave and explored it in search of the pocket watch. After defeating a series of Thornback spiders, The Absconder herself emerged and attacked them along with several Thornbacks. The student managed to successfully defend themself from the spiders' attacks, killing all of them, including The Absconder, and finally found the pocket watch deep within the cave.[1]

Following the battle, the student returned to Edgar Adley, who was surprised by their deeds and expressed his gratitude. They gave the pocket watch to Edgar and received some money as a reward.[1]
