This Thunderbird lived in the Magical Creatures Reserve in the 1980s.[1]

Biography[]

In the 1980s, Jacob's sibling would often bond with and feed this Thunderbird.[1]

During the 1989–1990 school year, this Thunderbird was attracted to the Forest Lake in the Forbidden Forest by a wizard named Todd Cribb, who wanted to use its tail feathers to create counterfeit Shikoba Wolfe wands to sell for a high price. As a result of this conflict, this Thunderbird's strong sense of danger resulted in it forming a series of large storms throughout the area around Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.[1]

Meanwhile, Rubeus Hagrid contacted Jacob's sibling to suggest a picnic for them and their friends as a way to thank them for helping take care of all of the creatures in the Magical Creatures Reserve. He also asserted that the picnic would be for creatures and pets too, offering for Jacob's sibling and their friends to bring their pets and to bring a few creatures over from the reserve. Hagrid suggested that he could bring the Niffler at the Magical Creatures Reserve, but he soon lamented that the picnic might not happen if the situation continued the way it was. When Jacob's sibling asked Hagrid what was wrong, Hagrid explained that strange storms had been appearing all over Hogwarts, blowing extremely powerfully before disappearing as fast as they appeared. Hagrid suggested that these strange storms might have been the work of a Thunderbird. Hagrid claimed that a Thunderbird could easily cause the storms, but that it would have to be greatly upset to have caused so many. Hagrid claimed that, if the storms couldn't be stopped, it would be impossible to hold the picnic. Jacob's sibling offered to help Hagrid out, with Hagrid suggesting that they needed to find a way to get a closer look at the storms to determine if a Thunderbird was truly involved. Jacob's sibling realised that they could use the telescope at the Astronomy Tower to look closer at the most recent storm to determine if a Thunderbird was at its centre. Hagrid claimed that he would be unable to join Jacob's sibling at the Astronomy Tower due to Professor Aurora Sinistra not trusting him around her delicate instruments after he once bumped into one of them and ruined months of painstaking work, with Jacob's sibling agreeing to report back to Hagrid what they had found.[1]

Hagrid warned Jacob's sibling about his fears that the Thunderbird they were looking for might be this Thunderbird, as it had been disappearing from the Magical Creatures Reserve at the same time as the storms occurred. Jacob's sibling questioned what could be upsetting this Thunderbird enough to cause it to create so many storms, to which Hagrid indicated that that question was what they needed to answer. Jacob's sibling reassured Hagrid that they would figure out what was causing the storms and ensure the picnic would take place before heading to the Astronomy Tower just as another storm was starting, where they ran into Alanza Alves. Both Alanza and Jacob's sibling were surprised to see each other, with Alanza explaining that she had come to the tower to study in the peaceful environment and look at the beautiful view, which had been disrupted by the sudden storm. Jacob's sibling explained that they needed to use the telescope to get a closer look at the storm, but Alanza was hesitant, reminding Jacob's sibling that students weren't meant to use the telescope without Professor Sinistra's permission. She stated that the telescope was currently pointed at the Orion Nebula and that any nudge could throw it out of alignment. However, Jacob's sibling managed to convince Alanza that they had a good reason to use the telescope, with Alanza learning about Hagrid's planned picnic, to which Jacob's sibling quickly invited her. After resetting the telescope to look directly at the eye of the storm. Jacob's sibling looked through the telescope and found a Thunderbird at the centre of the storm, which they reported to Alanza before leaving to tell Hagrid about what they had found.[1]

Jacob's sibling met up with Hagrid and this Thunderbird in the Desert Dunes section of the Magical Creatures Reserve, where Jacob's sibling met with Holly Blackbird, a witch who worked for the Magical Congress of the United States of America who had travelled to the reserve from Wisconsin to help figure out the current Thunderbird situation. Jacob's sibling explained that the Thunderbird they saw in the eye of the storm might have been this Thunderbird, but this Thunderbird was currently behaving relatively calmly and showed no signs of being upset enough to cause storms. Jacob's sibling asked Holly what might be causing the Thunderbird to create the storms, to which Holly suggested that, while Thunderbirds usually caused storms to bring life to the desert, something must have been bothering this Thunderbird and that whatever it was needed to be stopped. Jacob's sibling offered to help figure out the cause of this Thunderbird's discomfort, reassuring Holly that they were ready to face the potential dangers that could result from this mission. After assessing Jacob's sibling's knowledge of Thunderbirds, Holly offered to let them be her assistant in her investigation. Holly stated that Thunderbirds had a keen sense of danger, suggesting that this could be related to their current situation. Jacob's sibling suggested that the storms might be a warning of some kind, while Holly indicated that this Thunderbird could be attempting to stop the danger on its own instead. Holly stated that she had a plan to figure out which situation was true, asking Jacob's sibling to meet her at the Training Grounds.[1]

Upon meeting with Holly and Hagrid at the Training Grounds, Jacob's sibling noticed that a new, even worse storm had started. Holly claimed that it would be impossible to ascertain what danger the Thunderbird was responding to on the ground, suggesting that she and Jacob's sibling should fly on broomsticks into the storm to check on this Thunderbird in the sky. To keep the two of them safe while flying in the storm, Holly suggested that they cast the Shield Charm on their broomsticks while they flew, with the two of them successfully practising casting the charm while in flight. Despite their success, Hagrid still worried that the plan was too dangerous, questioning why they didn't simply check in on this Thunderbird at the reserve while safely on the ground. However, Jacob's sibling replied that this Thunderbird always behaved normally and calm at the reserve, indicating that they needed to observe it while it was creating a storm to find the source of the problem. Hagrid eventually agreed to the plan, although he was still worried about Jacob's sibling, and offered to keep watch for them on the ground.[1]

Jacob's sibling worried that their investigation would confirm that the storm-causing Thunderbird was this Thunderbird, but Holly reassured them that, while it was likely to be the case, no one would be better equipped to handle this Thunderbird's problems than them. Jacob's sibling and Holly then flew towards the storm, which was localised over the Forest Lake. After they both successfully managed to cast the Shield Charm on their brooms, the two managed to fly through the storm, finding this Thunderbird at its centre. After confirming that the Thunderbird was the same individual as the one they had befriended, Holly suggested that Jacob's sibling ask the creature a simple yes or no question regarding its situation, as the Thunderbird's great intelligence would enable it to understand the question.[1]

Jacob's sibling asked this Thunderbird if it was sensing danger, to which the creature affirmed. Jacob's sibling also managed to confirm that this Thunderbird had created the storms, that the danger had a larger impact than just on the Thunderbird itself, and that someone else was involved. Jacob's sibling asked if this Thunderbird could take them to the source of the danger, but the beast didn't fully trust them enough to do so. Jacob's sibling was confused as to how the Thunderbird didn't trust them after all of the time they spent together, but Holly revealed that the Thunderbird actually didn't trust her and that she needed to do something to win its trust. Jacob's sibling suggested that Holly show this Thunderbird her wand, which had a Thunderbird tail feather core. After showing her wand to this Thunderbird, the beast finally trusted her and offered to lead her and Jacob's sibling to the source of the danger.[1]

This Thunderbird led the pair back to the Forest Lake, where they encountered a wizard referring to himself as "Prospero", who claimed they were disrupting his conjurings and that they should start grovelling before him immediately. Holly remembered that the name "Prospero" referred to the character of the same name in William Shakespeare's play The Tempest, who was a sorcerer who used magic to create storms. "Prospero" claimed that his powerful Metelojinx could create a storm powerful enough to attract a Thunderbird, explaining that he wanted to do so to show off his great powers in a "battle of storms" between himself and the Thunderbird. Jacob's sibling asserted that there was no way that "Prospero's" weather magic could be stronger than the storms of a Thunderbird, much to "Prospero's" annoyance, theorising that the wizard might be lying to them. When "Prospero" decided to duel with the pair, Holly attempted to engage in the duel, but her wand started to fire uncontrollably as a result of its Thunderbird tail feather core becoming excited by this Thunderbird's storm, leaving Jacob's sibling to duel "Prospero" instead. Jacob's sibling was successfully able to defeat "Prospero," noticing a strange sack behind him. Although "Prospero" tried to claim that the sack contained little more than lovely leaves he had been collecting, Jacob's sibling and Holly remained unconvinced. When Holly mentioned that her wand was still acting up, Jacob's sibling suddenly remembered that Thunderbird wands were particularly skilled at Transfiguration. They quickly cast Reparifarge on the sack, revealing that the "leaves" were actually Thunderbird tail feathers, with Holly noting that there were enough feathers in the sack to be worth a fortune. Jacob's sibling realised that "Prospero's" "battles" with this Thunderbird were simply a way to draw it to him so that he could collect its dropped tail feathers. Although "Prospero" attempted to flee from the scene, he ran into Hagrid, who had just arrived at the lake, who forced him to remain at the scene. Jacob's sibling questioned "Prospero", who had revealed his true name of Todd, about the situation, learning that he had intended to make counterfeit Shikoba Wolfe wands using the tail feathers to sell for a high price and that he had used the fake name "Prospero" to try to strike fear in his adversaries. While giving his explanation, Todd revealed that his last name was "Cribbe", reminding Jacob's sibling of their frequent run-ins with Corrine Cribb. Todd revealed that Corrine was his wife, fearing that she would be mad at him for his failure.[1]

Although Todd threatened that they hadn't seen the last of him, Holly stated that she would make sure that he was brought to the proper authorities. Hagrid gladly affirmed that their storm problems were finally over while Jacob's sibling invited this Thunderbird and Holly to attend the picnic, to which both agreed. Jacob's sibling later met up with Hagrid at the picnic in his garden, where they found Hagrid, Holly, Alanza, Liz Tuttle, and Barnaby Lee sharing a meal with Fang, Sir Ribbithe, Knarl, the Niffler Jacob's sibling had befriended, a Jackalope, and a cat while this Thunderbird flew overhead. Holly claimed that she was glad to get to relax at the picnic after having to deal with Todd all afternoon while taking him to the British Ministry of Magic. She explained that Todd wasn't that bad of a guy, as he was just a little misguided and desperate to impress his wife, Corrine. When Jacob's sibling asked what would happen to him, Holly stated that he would be using his weather magic to water the gardens of Ministry officials for some time.[1]

Holly and Jacob's sibling reaffirmed their appreciation for each other's help during the Thunderbird investigation, while this Thunderbird gladly greeted Jacob's sibling. The group finally settled down to enjoy the picnic, with Hagrid asserting to Jacob's sibling that this Thunderbird and the other creatures in the Magical Creatures Reserve were better off with a great helper like them around.[1]
