The tail feather of the Thunderbird was used as a wand core by the American wandmaker Shikoba Wolfe.[1] Wolfe's wands were powerful but difficult to master, and were good for transfiguration work.[1]
Wands with Thunderbird tail feather cores, like the birds the feathers are taken from, are able to sense danger and can cast curses on their own.[2]
