Times Square is a major commercial intersection in Manhattan, New York City, at the junction of Broadway and Seventh Avenue, and stretching from West 42nd to West 47th Streets.[1] It is surrounded by buildings covered in neon billboards, such as Hanson Theatre, Swanson Hotel, Sovereign Theatre, and the Orpheum.[2]

History[]

This was one of the main areas that suffered from a wealth of the attacks during the Obscurial attack on New York on 7 December 1926. An abused orphan from the New Salem church was the source of the unusually destructive and murderous parasite, which was willingly unleashed upon people by the boy due to significant emotional distress and anger.

It was in Times Square that the Obscurial killed vast numbers of people, destroyed property, and where the New York Guard was officially called into quell the situation. From the initial incident in the square on, MACUSA security, OWL military, and defence officials, including an extensive team of Aurors, MACUSA police, and Major Investigation Department members and armed squadrons where drawn in to quell and kill the Obscurial using powerful missile, explosive, bullet/projectile, lethal protective/shield, electric, and mass-destructive fission spells authorised by Madame President Seraphina Picquery.

This came just hours before the last Obscurus outburst in the NYC Subway that lead to the capture of international terrorist and warlord Gellert Grindelwald, the clash with the non-magical public, including the media, the NYPD, and various US military and national guard members, and the eventual exposal of the Wizarding society and increased animosity between non-magical beings and magical beings.

This is seen as the starting point of the Global Wizarding War, coming just a week after a New York State Senator was publicly and brutally murdered in front of an audience by the same Obscurial acting on vengeful feelings at City Hall, on the evening of 6 December.
