The Toenail-growing hex (incantation unknown) is a hex that is used to cause the victim's toenails to grow at an alarmingly fast rate.^[1]

History

This hex was invented by Severus Snape and recorded in his copy of Advanced Potion-Making during his school years at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Therefore, it had not been approved by the British Ministry of Magic.^[2]

In 1996, Harry Potter used this hex on Vincent Crabbe in the corridor, with "very entertaining results".^[1] Ron Weasley also recommended trying it on Cormac McLaggen.^[3]

Behind the scenes

It is unknown when Severus Snape invented this and many of his other spells as according to Sirius Black "he knew more curses when he arrived at school than half the kids in seventh year."^[4]
