A transfer student was a magical or non-magical student who changed school at a point in their education.
Known transfer students[]
Students | Date(s) | Note(s) |
---|---|---|
Natsai Onai | 1880s or 1890s | Natsai transferred from Uagadou to Hogwarts when her mother took up a role as professor of Divination.[1] |
Unidentified 19th-century Hogwarts student (possibly) | 1890–1891 school year | The student was given a late acceptance into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as a result of their unique ability to master ancient magic.[1] It is possible that they transferred from a Muggle school. |
Baglan Wellnelly | By the 1988–1989 school year | They had transferred from Durmstrang Institute to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for an unknown reason. |
Gruffyd Wellnelly | ||
Beauxbatons student who transferred from Slytherin | 2010s | She informed Headmistress McGonagall that she would be transferring from Hogwarts to Beauxbatons Academy of Magic.[2] |
Possible transfers[]
- In the 1890–1891 school year, a student was dissatisfied with Professor Phineas Nigellus Black and considered transferring to Beauxbatons Academy of Magic. However, she did not speak French.[3]
Behind the scenes[]
- It is unknown if transfer students have the same requirements as first-year students. For example, Hogwarts only serves students who live in Great Britain and Ireland, and Durmstrang does not accept Muggle-borns.
- Given the fact that Natsai Onai, a Zimbabwean witch, is able to transfer to Hogwarts, it is therefore possible that transfer students do not need the same requirements as first-year students
