- "Describe, with examples, the ways in which Transforming Spells must be adapted when performing Cross-Species Switches"
- — The fourth-year Transfiguration homework[src]
Transforming Spells were transfiguration spells of unknown incantation; they were used to perform forms of transformation.[1]
Nature and teaching[]
Transforming spells seemed to be related to changing guinea fowl into guinea pigs, as these spells were the subject of an essay written for homework after a class on that spell.[1]
As Professor McGonagall taught her fourth-year students in Transfiguration class, Transforming Spells could and must be adapted in some manner in order to perform Cross-Species Switches. This was the subject of an essay they had to write for that night's homework.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
- It is currently unknown whether this refers to a specific set of Transformation spells, or if it refers to any spell that might transform something. If the latter is the case, such spells as the Avifors Spell and the Snufflifors Spell might be considered Transforming Spells.
- In Hogwarts Legacy, a series of transformations take the umbrella name of the "Transformation Spell", which covers everything from changing gobstones to butterflies, to more complex human transfigurations like humans into chickens, and so on. Since the Harry Potter universe shows that these transfigurations are always the result into different spells and not just one universal spell, it can be asusmed that the developers merged them together for gameplay reasons.
