Transylvania was a region of Romania in Eastern Europe. In the wizarding community, Transylvania was an independent country with its own Ministry of Magic separate from Romania.[2]

History[]

The wizarding travel agency TerrorTours offered trips to Transylvanian castles occupied by vampire hosts.[1]

A Transylvanian farmer was supposedly rescued of a Babbling Curse by Gilderoy Lockhart,[3] although this was likely an incident he took credit for or fabricated.[5]

The Transylvanian National Quidditch team was known for having been one of the finalists in the first-ever Quidditch World Cup, where the Transylvanian Tackle was invented: a Quidditch tactic that involved a feint to the punch of the nose to confuse another player. They also became a semi-finalist in the World Cup of 1994, where the team beat the English National Quidditch team 390 to 10. However, they did not make it to the finals that year.[4] The Quidditch team rode Transylvanian Barbs in the World Cup of that year, a broomstick manufactured in Transylvania.[6]

Percy Weasley, during the course of his duties as personal assistant to Bartemius Crouch Senior, had a meeting with the Transylvanian Head of Magical Co-operation in early 1995 to persuade him to sign the International Ban on Duelling.[2]

While attempting to break-in to Gringotts Wizarding Bank in 1998, Ronald Weasley went under the assumed identity of a Transylvanian wizard named "Dragomir Despard".[7]

At some point after 2 May 1998, the Daily Prophet ran a competition with the prize of winning a night in Transylvania.[8]
