This scroll was a family history of the Trelawney family, including all the prophecies that members of the family had made. In order to protect its secrets, it was encoded using a cryptogrammatic cipher that was related to astrology.[1]
History[]
Made long before 1985, the scroll contained the long family history of the Trelawney family, with many of that family's prophecies written within. Ownership was passed down through the family until Sybill Trelawney misplaced the scroll one day whilst at Hogwarts and the Hogwarts librarian, Irma Pince, sorted it into the collections at the Hogwarts Library. Whilst it was in the library it was discovered by a student named Lenny Pindlebrook, who saw the cryptogrammatic cipher as a challenge and began to decipher it. Penny Haywood also took an interest in the scroll, but was unable to take the scroll out of the library due to Lenny's constant use of it. Eventually Penny managed to get the scroll and showed it to Jacob's sibling and Ben Copper, who tracked down Lenny and helped him crack the cipher. Upon doing so, Lenny saw a prophecy which he thought may be related to him. Lenny and Jacob's sibling returned the scroll to Sybil Trelawney and asked her to study the scroll to determine its meaning, which she did, and told the pair that the prophecy foretold Lenny's death.[1]
