Tteokbokki is a kind of rice cake originating from Korea.[2]
History[]
During the 1988–1989 school year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Jae Kim made tteokbokki at the Great Hogwarts Cook-Off following his family's recipe.[1]
Recipe[]
Ingredients[]
- Main
- 340 g Korean rice cakes, separated
- 150 g Korean fish cakes, rinsed & cut
- 2 cups Korean soup stock
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 3 tbsp gochujang (Korean chilli paste)
- 1.5 tbsp raw sugar
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- 1 tsp gochugaru (Korean chilli flakes)
Directions[]
- Unless rice cakes are soft already, soak rice cakes in warm water for 10 mins.
- Boil soup stock in pot over medium high heat and dissolve sauce by stirring with spatula. Once stock is boiling, add rice cakes, fish cakes, and onion. Boil for 3-5 mins until cakes are fully cooked.
- Serve warm. Optional: garnish with sesame seeds and green onion.
- Tip: Try adding a splash of cream for extra level of richness and to reduce the spiciness!
