- "It's a Turner family tradition. Only the most clever, determined, and most imaginative painters in the family ever finds it. That's the most important part of the challenge... to ask for help, and not to be blinded by treasure. The brush is only bestowed on those who can extend the Turner family to others, through their art and their kindness and their friendship. It holds great power. Yours."
- — The portrait of Ambrose Turner explaining the significance of their heirloom[src]
This brush was a precious heirloom of the wizarding Turner family, and was bestowed on those of its members that proved themselves to be not only good wizards or witches or good painters, but good people that placed greater importance on the beauty of life than personal gain.[1]
History[]
The brush was an heirloom of the Turner family. The Dark wizard Bly, without knowing what it actually was, was in pursuit of it for years and murdered Ambrose Turner for it, but still didn't succeed.[1]
At the start of the 2009–2010 school year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Bly came to the school disguised as Professor Jakub Gorski's assistant in his lemur Animagus form and controlled him using the Imperius Curse to help him with his mission. In his first class, Gorski gave second-year History of Magic students an assignment of uncovering a mystery artefact. When Lottie Turner and her friends were close to finding it, Bly appeared and forced Lottie to open a container, revealing the brush. Bly, however, mistook it for a wand and attempted to use it to fight the students, which of course ended in failure.[1]
After Bly was defeated and Gorski was freed of his control, the latter brought Lottie a portrait of her father, who allowed Lottie to keep the brush.[1]
