This unicorn lived in the Magical Creatures Reserve in the 1980s.[1]
Biography[]
In the 1980s, Jacob's sibling would often bond with and feed this unicorn.[1]
During the 1986–1987 school year, this unicorn became the mate of another unicorn in the Dark Forest of the Magical Creatures Reserve, with his mate eventually becoming pregnant with their foal. However, this unicorn was separated from his mate when she became trapped in a nearby cave. Unaware as to where she was, this unicorn became extremely skittish and uncomfortable, unwilling to leave the forest area where his mate had disappeared.[1]
Rubeus Hagrid later made a wager with a friend in Hogsmeade who challenged him to prove that he knew a unicorn. To fulfil the challenge, Hagrid called Jacob's sibling, Barnaby Lee, and Merula Snyde to the Forbidden Forest to meet him and this unicorn, claiming that he wanted them to take the unicorn for a walk around Hogsmeade to show him to the local children. However, Merula was able to figure out that Hagrid had another motive for taking the unicorn to Hogsmeade, leading Hagrid to admit that his wager was his real reason for doing so. Barnaby offered to simply confirm that Hagrid knew the unicorn to Hagrid's friend in order to help him win the bet, but Jacob's sibling informed him that Hagrid's friend had requested to actually see the unicorn in question for Hagrid to win the bet. Hagrid revealed that he had called the three students to the forest to help him calm the unicorn down for the trip to Hogsmeade, as he seemed to be unusually skittish. Jacob's sibling and Merula suggested that, in addition to helping calm down the unicorn, they should accompany Hagrid and the unicorn on their journey into Hogsmeade. After attempting to convince Hagrid to allow them to come along, Hagrid decided that, if the three students could convince him that they understood unicorns enough, he would allow them to join them on his trip to Hogsmeade.[1]
In order to get to know the unicorn better and to find out what was bothering him, Jacob's sibling, Barnaby, and Merula took the unicorn to the Training Grounds at Hogwarts. Using her knowledge of unicorn behaviour, Merula suggested that the unicorn might have been restless due to his species' general distrust of men, meaning that he was uncomfortable around the male half-giant Hagrid. However, Barnaby disagreed, claiming that Hagrid was great with magical creatures and suggesting that they just needed to be gentler around the unicorn. The three students attempted to apply these methodologies to bonding with the unicorn, finding that he was starting to become closer to and had started to trust them. Jacob's sibling offered the unicorn food, which the unicorn ate, although he still refused to let them touch him. At that moment, Hagrid arrived at the Training Grounds to check in on the students' bonding with the unicorn. After finding that the unicorn was much more comfortable around the three students than before, Hagrid agreed to allow them to accompany him and the unicorn into Hogsmeade.[1]
Upon arriving at Hogsmeade, Hagrid briefly left to meet up with his friend, who was gathering the local children to meet the unicorn. However, as soon as Hagrid left, the unicorn started acting skittish once again, with Merula noting that he had seemed reluctant to come into Hogsmeade with them. After successfully calming down the unicorn, Jacob's sibling, Barnaby, and Merula planned to take the unicorn to meet Hagrid and the children of Hogsmeade. However, at that moment, Bilton Bilmes accidentally dropped a box of Fanged Frisbees, which started flying around the area, spooking the unicorn, which fled into the town. Chasing after the unicorn, the three students followed him to the Three Broomsticks Inn, where they found him causing a scene inside the inn by trampling on the Butterbeer barrels there. While the patrons inside the inn found the creature beautiful, Madam Rosmerta wanted to get the unicorn out of her inn as soon as possible. Noticing Jacob's sibling, Barnaby, and Merula entering the inn, Rosmerta demanded that they help her get the unicorn out of her inn.[1]
However, two of the patrons inside the inn attempted to pluck a hair from the unicorn's tail to sell and to take his horn to be used in potions. After explaining why they brought the unicorn to Hogsmeade, Jacob's sibling, Barnaby, and Merula successfully managed to convince the two patrons to leave the unicorn alone. However, while they were doing so, the unicorn escaped from the Three Broomsticks and ran into Zonko's Joke Shop. Following the unicorn to the joke shop, the three students found that the unicorn had met back up with Hagrid, who was also in the store at the time. After learning of the events that occurred at the station from Bilton, Hagrid had managed to calm the unicorn down. After explaining the events of the rest of their time in Hogsmeade to Hagrid, Merula apologised to the unicorn, suggesting that maybe they shouldn't have taken the creature to Hogsmeade at all. Barnaby, Jacob's sibling, and Hagrid noticed that the unicorn hadn't wanted to leave the forest in the first place and thought that removing him from the forest appeared to be bothering the unicorn for some unknown reason. Noting that the unicorn appeared to want to return to the forest immediately, the three students were able to convince Hagrid to put the needs of the unicorn first and to forget his bet with his friend and to delay the unicorn's meeting with the children in order to return the unicorn home.[1]
Upon returning the unicorn to the Dark Forest in the Magical Creatures Reserve, Hagrid called Jacob's sibling, Barnaby, and Merula to meet with him in the reserve, where he planned to reveal a surprise to them. Upon their arrival, Hagrid met up with them and revealed that the unicorn had wanted to return to the forest because he had been separated from his mate, who had been trapped in a nearby cave until recently, and didn't know where she was. Hagrid also revealed that the unicorn's mate was pregnant and would soon give birth to a foal. Having successfully reunited with his mate and future offspring, the happy unicorn finally trusted Jacob's sibling enough to let them touch him before they, Barnaby, Merula, and Hagrid left the unicorn and his mate to have their foal in peace.[1]
