"Many miles away the chilly mist that had pressed against the Prime Minister's windows drifted over a dirty river that wound between overgrown rubbish-strewn banks."
— The river in 1996[src]

This river flowed through the Muggle town of Cokeworth in England.[1][2]

History[]

In 1971, Lily Evans and Severus Snape went to the sunlit glittering river, where they talked about Hogwarts and the wizarding world. During the conversation, they were interrupted by Lily's sister Petunia, who mocked Severus about his poor clothing, causing him to intentionally drop a tree branch on her head using underage magic.[2]

By 1996, the river had become dirty and surrounded with overgrown, rubbish-strewn banks. In the summer of 1996, a scrawny fox was killed by Bellatrix Lestrange's Killing Curse at the river bank, due to her perception that it was perhaps an Auror.[1]
