This individual (fl. 19th century) was a wizard from Cornwall who was tried at the Wizengamot for trying to breed Basilisks.[1]
Biography[]
In the 1890s, a routine inspection of his five chicken coops revealed toad infestations. He was suspected of trying to breed Basilisks, a practise that was outlawed by the British Ministry of Magic. He was taken into custody and put on trial in the Wizengamot where he pleaded a defence of total ignorance, that he had no idea how Basilisks were made, claimed that the toads were drawn to his chicken coops and called it a "silly mistake".[1]
The members of the Wizengamot were largely sceptical of his defence. Belinda Brown of the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures was the only one who believed him. She thought he was a "moonmind" who would have tried to move the toads before the inspection if he thought he would get into trouble.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
- They may be the same individual as the Cornish wizard who bred a 'Dricken', however this is unconfirmed.
