This wizard was a Death Eater who was among the several to return to Lord Voldemort's side after his return on the night of 24 June 1995, whereupon he beheld the duel between his master and Harry Potter.
Biography[]
First Wizarding War[]
In order to have answered Lord Voldemort's call on the night of his restoration to a corporeal form, this man must have been in the Dark Lord's service during his first reign of terror, surviving the First Wizarding War and somehow avoiding imprisonment in Azkaban after Voldemort's fall at the hands of the infant Harry Potter, who many escaped Death Eaters hoped to rally around as a master in a potential future.
Return of the Dark Lord[]
- "Master ... Master ..."
- — The man to Tom Riddle[src]
This wizard was one of the many Death Eaters who returned to the side of Lord Voldemort when he rose again in 1995, feeling the Dark Mark burning black and Apparating, masked and hooded, to his master's side. Staring in astonishment at the leader he had believed dead, this man was the first to react, crawling on his knees to kiss the hem of the Dark wizard's robes as he crooned the word "master", then rising to form a circle around Voldemort as his comrades imitated his action. Listening as his master spoke to the Death Eaters and scorned them for the cowardice they had shown by never going in search of him, despite pledging him their loyalties, this wizard proceeded to stand in silence as Voldemort recounted his previous attempt to return and watched the following duel between Voldemort and Harry, presumably pursuing the Boy Who Lived after he made a break for it, who he likely made an unsuccessful attempt to stun.[4]
Magical abilities and skills[]
- Dark Arts: Being a Death Eater, this wizard would have been accomplished with Dark magic, most likely including the Unforgivable Curses and other Dark charms.[4]
- Apparition: This wizard was capable of Apparition, as he was capable of Apparating to his master's side in the Little Hangleton graveyard.[4]
Behind the scenes[]
- Though unconfirmed, this man might have been Avery, who similarly displayed pleading cowardice.
Appearances[]
- Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (First appearance)
Notes and references[]
- ↑ To have answered Voldemort's summons after his return, this man must have fought in the First Wizarding War, which ended in 1981.
- ↑ Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters were known for their vehement hatred of Muggle-born wizards and Muggles in general.
- ↑ See this interview; "Samantha: Was snape the only death eater who could produce a full Patronus?
J. K. Rowling: Yes, because a Patronus is used against things that the Death Eaters generally generate, or fight alongside. They would not need Patronuses." - ↑ 4.0 4.1 4.2 4.3 4.4 Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 33 (The Death Eaters)
