This merkid was a young Selkie who belonged to the Great Lake Selkie colony.[1]
Biography[]
In the 1986–1987 school year, this merkid struck up a friendship with a sea serpent who had been recently moved to the Magical Creatures Reserve. The sea serpent's desire to play with the merkid resulted in it traversing the waterways between the open ocean and the Great Lake daily, which was damaging them and threatened their destruction, which would have had incredibly bad effects on the ecosystem around Hogwarts Castle. When Jacob's sibling and Barnaby Lee investigated why the sea serpent kept travelling to the Great Lake, the merkid was initially hostile towards them. However, when Jacob's sibling and Barnaby demonstrated their intentions to the merkid, he let them return to the Castle. Later, the merkid spoke with Albus Dumbledore, as Dumbledore knew Mermish, with Dumbledore telling the merkid about the effect the sea serpent was having on the waterways and inviting the merkid to visit the sea serpent in the Magical Creatures Reserve instead. The merkid agreed and continued to visit the sea serpent daily in the Magical Creatures Reserve.[1]
