Love It!!!!

Thanks for contributing to the Harry Potter Wiki! Please note, we use British spelling, syntax, and grammar on this Wiki (e.g. "defence" instead of "defense", and "practise" instead of "practice" when it is a verb). We use British titles as well (e.g. "Philosopher's Stone" instead of "Sorcerer's Stone", and "Minister for Magic" instead of "Minister of Magic"). If you have any further questions, feel free to ask. Thanks. --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 18:22, October 6, 2010 (UTC)

Haha, yeah, that confuses me sometimes, but I'll try to keep that consistent.

Using Preview

Hello EmmyG, I see that you have made several consecutive edits to the same page. I want to point out the Preview button. It's right next to the Save Page button when you edit. You should use it whenever you are making a lot of experimental edits, for example when you are trying to get formatting right. Using the Preview button is quicker and easier than saving and clicking "edit" again, and will keep recent changes and page histories from being flooded. Thanks, The Knights Who Say Ni 15:04, October 7, 2010 (UTC)

Right-o. For some reason, I keep missing little typos when I look at in preview mode, but I'll work on that.

Re: British spelling

Yeah, it used to slip right by me, too; being an American, I had to adapt. But I've gotten used to it. I've even gotten into the habit of referring to the Philosopher's Stone as such, and not the Sorcerer's Stone. --Cubs Fan (Talk to me) 19:43, October 12, 2010 (UTC)

re: quick question

I would say that yes, make the page with the redirect link to the MoM, like you said, that way it'll be searchable. By the way, good job editing/cleaning up pages. :-) I'm on here a lot since I got laid off, so if you ever need help with anything just let me know. --BachLynnGryffindorcrest(Accio!) 00:18, October 19, 2010 (UTC)

Haha, yea I got addicted after getting laid off (and got sick of reading), if you notice I've accumulated almost 6000 edits and I've only been editing for like 3 1/2 months, lol. I'm kind of hoping maybe eventually to be considered for admin. At least that's my goal along with finding a real paying job, lol! --BachLynnGryffindorcrest(Accio!) 00:46, October 19, 2010 (UTC)

I put regime because I couldn't think of what to put.

Image uploads

Thank you for contributing image uploads to the Harry Potter Wiki. However, your recent upload was in breach of our image policy, and has since been corrected. In future, please be sure to fill out the information template that is provided on the upload page, in particular citing the source from which the image comes from, and adding categories. This is to help keep images organised and catalogued, and to provide clear sourcing for all uploads. Please be aware that images missing this information may be subject to deletion, and, in certain cases, uploading images after being asked to provide the correct information may lead to a block for the uploader. If you have any doubts or questions regarding this, please contact one of the administrators. Thank you for your cooperation.--Cavalier OneGryffindorcrest(Wizarding Wireless Network) 09:16, October 22, 2010 (UTC)

Alastor Moody

You will find he used the Unforgivable Curses during his Fourth Year defence against the dark arts class. Then again it probably classes as BC Jr.

RE: Persistent Vandal

They've been blocked, thanks for reporting and undoing their edits. Have you considered asking for Rollback privileges? It makes reverting vandalism much easier. - Nick O'Demus 19:02, October 22, 2010 (UTC)

Title templates

Referencing is a bit easier with the book, film, and game title templates that were recently made. For example:

Hope this helps. You've been doing great work. - Nick O'Demus 20:53, October 22, 2010 (UTC)

More templates

These are some useful templates for warning users who are making unhelpful edits.

{{fanon}} - for users adding fanon to pages or creating fanon articles.
{{vandal}} - for relatively minor vandalism, or generally unhelpful edits.
{{vandal2}} - for persistent or major vandalism, such as vulgarity, profanity, or explicit material.
{{last}} - for repeated vandalism after having already been warned, make sure you inform an Administrator about the user's actions.

These aren't really official guidelines for use, just what I tend to go off of, so just use your best judgement. You can click on the template names to see what they look like. For the {{vandal}} template, you can also link to the page they were editting, such as {{vandal|Harry Potter}} - Nick O'Demus 05:48, October 23, 2010 (UTC)

Hey there

I just want to say that I like your style about cleaning up the pages ;) I haven't an excellent grammar English, but an excellent grammar Dutch :). By the way, your userpage looks cool.--Station7 20:24, October 23, 2010 (UTC)

Could you do me a favor, because my computer doesn't work and remove the categories at this page: Unidentified chessmasters Heads of Hogwarts?--Station7 09:24, October 24, 2010 (UTC)

Yes, all the categories, because it's a redirect.--Station7 09:28, October 24, 2010 (UTC)

No, you did the wrong one. You should doing the redirect, not the page self. I can't remove them, because my internet will being removed them. So at the redirect, you should remove them and at the page you should put them back.--Station7 09:30, October 24, 2010 (UTC)

That's alright ;) --Station7 09:31, October 24, 2010 (UTC)

re: boots

Oh, no, I mean initially I would have done the same thing, after a little while I read through the Hogwarts uniform page, and once I realised that boots weren't anywhere on the page, it occurred to me that if anyone was actually to type in "boots" in the search, they probably expect to find some sort of information on boots. Did you read the message to Seth? Do you have any suggestions/thoughts? I've had a few ideas: 1) a separate page for each type of boots from the video game (like was done with belts). 2)Edit the uniform page to include the video game equipment. 3) Create one "boots" page to encompass all types of boots (like with cloaks). What do you think? --BachLynnGryffindorcrest(Accio!) 15:04, October 25, 2010 (UTC)

Don't feel bad, I only figured out how to move a page a little while ago, lol! You can see a list of all the items available in the game here ( I think this is something that definitely needs to be addressed by an admin, because there are some serious inconsistencies here. Some articles of clothing have their own page, some are redirected to hogwarts uniform, some don't even have a redirect page (like winter cloak), but does get mentioned on both the Hogwarts Uniform page and the "cloak" article. However Blizzard Cloak has it's own page. I haven't heard back from Seth yet, not sure if there are any admin's on right now. --BachLynnGryffindorcrest(Accio!) 17:02, October 25, 2010 (UTC)

I looked over the Arabella article, only made a few very very minor edits, it looks good to me. One question, it may not have been you that added it anyway, but in the info box it lists "Mr. Figg (husband)" do you know of anywhere that suggests she was ever married? With her obsession with cats I sort of always assumed she was a spinster of sorts. I mean if there had been a mention of a husband anywhere I would have thought it would have warranted his own article and there isn't an article for him....... Other then that the article looks really good! --BachLynnGryffindorcrest(Accio!) 19:17, October 29, 2010 (UTC)

Could still be worth a BTS mention. - Nick O'Demus 19:26, October 29, 2010 (UTC)
I suppose if she were single she would have been "madame figg" maybe? And because she is "Mrs. Figg" it is assumed that at some point she married. Unless the title "Mrs." is used differently in Britain. Which means Figg isn't her maiden name. Next question, do we assume that her husband died sometime prior to Harry going over to be babysat there? --BachLynnGryffindorcrest(Accio!) 19:35, October 29, 2010 (UTC)
Looks alright to me, maybe with the widow part say that it is likely he would have died prior to the 1980s, as the reason he was never mentioned, I mean as nosey as Petunia is, if a husband had lived there I don't see why they would have said "mrs. figg's" house all the time and not simply "the figg's". Although I can't wait till JKR writes the encyclopedia, because I just have this feeling that there must be this whole back story to Mrs. Figg in JKR's head swimming around. --BachLynnGryffindorcrest(Accio!) 19:49, October 29, 2010 (UTC)

RE: Fenwick Family

Did a minor rewrite. - Nick O'Demus 19:19, October 29, 2010 (UTC)

Hey, if you ever need something researched from the books, or can't find something specific, I have all the books on PDF files, so I can search keywords (makes research waaaaay easier that way). --BachLynnGryffindorcrest(Accio!) 16:43, October 30, 2010 (UTC)

re: info boxes

I'm not sure but I noticed the same thing, especially with countries and Quidditch teams, some have the colors of the national flags, some don't, I'm not sure what the policy is on that. --BachLynnGryffindorcrest(Accio!) 17:51, November 1, 2010 (UTC)

This is the only mention I could find in the book, “Went down to Transylvania, three hundred and ninety to ten,” said Charlie gloomily. “Shocking performance. And Wales lost to Uganda, and Scotland was slaughtered by Luxembourg.” --BachLynnGryffindorcrest(Accio!) 18:45, November 1, 2010 (UTC)

RE: Human Transfiguration

I'd say give it a day, just in case someone does find a mention of "Self-Transfiguration". If nothing by then, go for it. - Nick O'Demus 22:12, November 2, 2010 (UTC)
