Hey guys this is harrypotterexpert101 and I just want you to know that I would be more than happy to answer any questions!

RE:Proposal

I don't believe there's a need to have an administrator just for the Discussions board. The Mods can already hand out blocks and bans in Discussions already; furthermore, it is no overwhelmingly difficult task for me to give someone Mod rights when the Mod team requests it. That said, at present, I see no need in doing that; regardless, you can always apply at Harry Potter Wiki:Requests for permissions, and submit yourself to the community's vote. Cheers. --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 21:26, October 1, 2018 (UTC)

RE:Admin stuff

Oh so you've seen my conversations with Reverb? Great, he's managed to convince another person of my "inability" to moderate the discussions... This is ridiculous. Listen, don't vote if you don't wish to, but let me warned you, Reverb is not to be listened, he has on several occasions harrassed both me and other mods. Oh and thanks for reminding me about the discussions moderators page, I had completely forgotten about it, I was listed as Semi-Active as I was on vacation xD. Btw, it could be good if you changed your signature so it includes a link to your profile, for some users it may be difficult to find out who you are. Cheers, CosmicChronos Talk to me Contribs 14:48, October 24, 2018 (UTC)

Not here to convince you to vote for me, just two points: 1) your talk with Marc was several months ago, things have changed, 2) do I look banned? I'm not, why? Because I'm not an underage user, Reverb used false information to try and ban me, simply because of a personal grudge. CosmicChronos Talk to me Contribs 15:30, October 24, 2018 (UTC)

Hi Dave, Periods of inactivity happen for all sorts of reasons, and in my opinion, Cosmics recent inactivity is justified and not a reflecion on his ability as a DMOD or potential Admin. I'd also like to vouch for Cosmics maturity, which is well beyond his years. If I hadn't mentioned his being a younger member in private discussion, I guarentee you'd never have realised. In my humble opinion, age should not be a deciding factor in this case.I have been in discussion with Cosmic about his application, and after lengthy discussion, agreed to support him in this endeavour.

I've gone and reopened your nomination request since you disagree with its closure. What exactly do you need help with? I'm no expert on wiki-markup, and I've designed my signature quite some years ago by spending an afternoon fidgeting with the code. --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 19:45, November 4, 2018 (UTC)

Re: Question

Hi Dave! How are you?

Regarding the admin post, I give you permission to post something but it's possible that CC, Sapph, Ellie or Seth could lock it. I won't, but I can't guarantee the same for the rest of the mods.

No probs about the welcome message ;)

Problems with userboxes

Hi, Harrypotterexpert101!

I saw that you have problems with userboxes. Perhaps I can help. The Quidditch box had a spelling mistake. The name is: User quidditch - with a t before ch.

The Remus Lupin box is written: User remus lupin

You can find all userboxes here.

Hope that helps.  Harry granger   Talk   contribs 19:28, November 8, 2018 (UTC)

You're welcome. :-)  Harry granger   Talk   contribs 17:46, November 9, 2018 (UTC)

RE:Question

People usually show up to vote at RFP if a nominee spikes their interest. I suppose I could announce ongoing votes via Community Messages (a message box similar to the "You've got an owl" pops up) if you think it's necessary. --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 01:09, November 9, 2018 (UTC)

Editing OTHER Users' User pages

Just wondering, as a person who wanted to become an Admin, you have read HPW:EP#Excessive user page / forum edits, correct? =D

I find it peculiar, because, while you aren't exactly excessively editing your own User page, you are, however, editing User pages of other people? Especially when Seth's page has the message: "Please don't edit this page without my permission unless all you are doing is fixing typos or errors - thanks!" The edit you made on his page isn't bad per se, but it technically wasn't in need of changing, either, so was just wondering what prompt you to edit someone else's page.

Also, while it's not your own, User namespace is User namespace; as seen at Special:Editcount/Harrypotterexpert101, your User namespace edit reached 29.41% as I'm writing this message, which is beyond the policy's definition of excessive; you might want to tone it down, especially when they aren't even your own pages. Just a thought. --Sammm✦✧(talk) 03:13, November 10, 2018 (UTC)

I'm not sure what "tool" you are referring to in "I indeed have used the tool before, on a wiki I am an admin for", so I can't respond to it. And I see! I didn't check the multiple edits on Ironyak1's page, but it makes sense and other people have accidentally put badges then realized it wasn't placed on the talk page, so no worries!
If it makes you feel any better, I actually don't particularly care about the activities made by you, specifically? I only noticed the edits because Admins and B-crats are highlighted in purple, so if their pages are modified, they stood out, and seeing those edits done not by them, is a sight and not exactly done often (usually happens when someone vandalized first, then other users would attempt to help revert the damage,) was the reason why I reached out as your actions are neither.
I'm not actively "trying to get [you] blocked"; but stating the fact that, if you continue to only mainly edit on User namespace, it is actually possible for you to be blocked. I would not be the cause of any hypothetical blocks, since I'm only responsible for my actions, not yours.
--Sammm✦✧(talk) 03:55, November 10, 2018 (UTC)
Um, thanks? The only difference would be being able to delete duplicates if I actually become a Content Moderator, so I'm not really in a hurry for the deliberation (truth be told, I honestly felt very put-on-the-spot when I saw the community message update. Was not expecting it lol.) Looking forward to seeing you editing on main namespace articles, it's always helpful to see points added by a fresh pair of eyes! =D
Btw, there's Harry Potter Wiki:Awards (which I only found out recently lmao ahaha.) Some users have so many talk archives so it may be hard to locate whether they've already been awarded or not, though the page may not be entirely up to date. --Sammm✦✧(talk) 04:16, November 10, 2018 (UTC)

RE:Administrator Question

So if I understood it, you want to change the ability of Global Discussion Moderators and Vangaurd users to block editors? You should contact Staff for that.

To edit Community Message, what you want is to reach your wiki's MediaWiki:Community-corner. To change the "new messages" link, go to your wiki's MediaWiki:Newmessageslink. --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 00:59, November 13, 2018 (UTC)

Re: supposed hate

Dave, Look buddy i know very well that certain users have certain other users under their influence. But as i previously said, i never bring anger in business so my opinions on you not being an admin has got nothing to do with my situation with certain users. But since you are taking a step towards making peace, i am gonna assume it to be in good faith and advice you as a fellow user that you can be a admin here but you need some experience. And if you really want to make this wiki great and amazing and beautiful then help the admins re-design it. Help them add new features to the wiki. And many more such things. I know that you want to be one right now but frankly speaking, i don't see it happening(still NEVER lose hope) now. So keep trying and get more and more experience. Reverb frost (talk)

Advice

Well, you need a block policy for your wikis. I rigidly adhere to this one, which, while unofficial has proven to be extremely reliable, fair, and gives chances for users to mature. It was grandfathered in and is widely accepted. ToU violations, sock-puppeting, and offensive user names are an exception and get infinite banned on the wiki. When certain block lengths are standard procedure it gives you and other admins a common code and removes user opinion and bias. Granted that that policy could merely be inspiration for your own. I do suggest that you allow users to appeal blocks. It may consume your time, but it has spared some ignorant and innocent users an overly harsh punishment on my wiki.

Some other helpful policies from my home wiki:

If you have any other questions, then feel free to ask. I should get back to you within 24 hours at the absolute most. Zane T 69 (talk) 03:04, November 16, 2018 (UTC)

Of course not, but just remove links to Supernatural wiki and all references to it to avoid any confusion. Drawing inspiration from this wikis policies might help you too. Zane T 69 (talk) 14:43, November 16, 2018 (UTC)

Improving Discussions

As a follow-up to the commentary on the Requests for Permissions and our chat, I've made a post to gather input on how to improve Discussions. Given some of your complaints, I hope you'll take the opportunity to voice some solutions. Mhm, I see you have not filled the MediaWiki pages. Okay, but you use a template for the template. When I look into it, I think this code makes the too light colour: #f0f0f0
You should use another colour code.
The image you must upload onto your wiki.

I would try one of these three: #303030 or #181818 or #000000

RE:Hey

Hey, Dave,

I don't edit pages all that much because I don't really know what I should edit there. There are already many information and I'm not sure if I coud add something to it (at least apart from very, VERY nerdy knowledge I attained because of a german Youtuber who analyses Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone right now, like that Petunia used a camera that she couldn't even had bought [She also ranted for about 20 minutes about tartan, for example]).

And I didn't really write an entire article about a fictional character I created or anything, it was more about the fun and less about everything else on my profile page. That means I didn't particuliarly focused on grammar or spelling, so you can correct it, if you want. (You can also point the mistakes out, if you'd like, but you don't have to)

Um, hi there! Dave, right? If the only use for it is in your signature, I would suggest you to simply copy and paste Council-icon-FANDOM.svg or Council-small.svg, as in

or

onto your signature preference setting, so that even if it's just 1 file, it's 1 file less on this wiki, if that makes any sense. --Sammm✦✧(talk) 19:31, January 19, 2019 (UTC)

I'll look into whether there's way to resize the image. --Sammm✦✧(talk) 19:49, January 19, 2019 (UTC)
I've not found a way (yet, if there is one, feel like there should be), but I found two other locations:

If you are interested, just replace the url to
https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/ursuul/images/5/50/Council.png

Is it okay for me to delete the one uploaded onto HPW?

Re: Afshan Azad's birthday

Hey there! Thanks for bringing this discussion to the editing part of the community! (Gawd, I hope that doesn't come up pretentious, but I really don't know how to phrase the thanks for your action! lol) Ironyak1 took care of the situation before I even got to reading your message!

I'm not a fan of the film adaptations, so I personally don't pay attention/follow casts; a reminder though, HPW itself really technically isn't a source, at its best, it's a place compiled with info with sources to backup the claims, and the previous "1988" info had no source as reference. It is possible for HPW to contain incorrect info, and that's what's great about collective effort, so that anyone can help out with improving the accuracy. =D (Hmmm, not sure if this is worth bringing up, but also take info from Wikipedia and IMDb with a grain of salt: Unprotected pages on Wikipedia literally can have anyone editing, so still look for actual sources used, if possible. Anyone with an IMDb account is also able to edit, which is why cast lists isn't always correct there.)

If situation like this happens again, I hope you won't feel the need to inform other people and can be confident enough to make the changes should you find them to be legit in needing of change. If you aren't sure, you can still make the edit, no ones going to come after you if it actually turns out to be a mistake, and if it's not, I'd imagine you'd get a sense of accomplishment! =]

Again, thanks for sharing this with me though! Still a lot of things happening that I'm not aware of, so thanks for keeping me in the loop! --Sammm✦✧(talk) 19:24, February 12, 2019 (UTC)

Well, I'm assuming an honest opinion is what's that's sought out for, so I hope no one would be offended that I'm not all singing in praises. That's just my personal opinion.

  1. How do you view Fandom as a company? Do you feel that they support you enough as a Content Moderator?
    1. How do you view Fandom as a company?
As a whole, I think they are considerably approachable, which was impressive to me when I first joined and when they were still called Wikia. I actually got feedbacks on inquiries I sent it, which made me feel actually being a part of a community.

That said, I'm not going to lie and say they are perfect. While I agree that at the end of the day, it's their company and they obviously hold the right to make whatever changes they deemed needed to be made, and I'm not unrealistic to be spouting that their decision should cater to everybody, because it's impossible to make everybody happy; however, it'd be nice to have some prior warning should people be going to loose their stuff. I do not know if things like this still happen, but to be less vague, I know for a fact some people used to use the now defunct Hubs as regular Wiki, and created User pages there for their own documentation; without any warning, Fandom turned it into "not-a-Wiki" and those documentations were thus lost and unrecoverable.

I believe the excuse was that "Wikia/Fandom is not responsible for backups" which is fair in a sense; however, I don't think anyone can argue that, seriously, "some warning would have been nice". I'm not even saying the decision of defunct the Hub is bad; they want to do that? Sure, but is it really that hard to let people know beforehand so they can backup stuff they wanted to keep themselves? This is actually me being objective, my personal opinion about Hubs is not a factor to what I wrote; like, if they are one day going to retire Community Central, I would really like to know beforehand because I have a lot of User pages there that I spent time on, and I'm sure I'm not the only person. If this is a reasonable request, then I'd hope the same courtesy can be shown to any "Wikis" that would be turned into "not-Wikis". I understand the warning will generate complaints, but you are likely going to get them regardless when you make big changes without any signs. By announcing beforehand, people at least can't blame or complain that "you didn't give out warnings", because you did.

And to be clear, in case whoever's that's reading this then come at me and be like, "seriously, you are bringing up Hubs, something that happened more than 3 years ago? Obviously you are just a hater who can't move on etc." Uh, no? The company did this themselves without prior announcement; I can agree they hold the right to do that, but it doesn't change the fact that I personally find this act notoriously memorable to bring up when my opinion is asked. I am not writing this with ill-intention, I genuinely hope this can be prevented in the future.
    2. Do you feel that they support you enough as a Content Moderator?
This is hard to answer because I don't think I have really asked for their support as a Content Moderator, hence I can't exactly comment on a "support" they probably don't know I'd be needing; (which at the moment, not really needing?) I'm a Content Mod outside HPW and same goes for being an Admin & a B-crat; but at the end of the day, I don't think my User Right is really that relevant. I'm a User who had questions, and the majority of my interactions with Staff help is very positive, especially when it comes to technical help. I said "majority" and not "all", is again because I'm not going to lie. There was one incident that had a series of Staff responses that offended me so much that I went on hiatus for almost 2 years. Again this is me being objective; it was just one case, and sans it, I can honestly say they really are very helpful.
  2. What kind of technical updates would you like to see in the future? What features would make your job easier?
Um, both are similar questions I guess because I'd hope any updates are done with the intention for improvement of Users' convenience? One specific thing I would very much mainly like to see changed, something I probably would contact Staff if I stick around long enough, just currently haven't the time to do so, is the ratelimit of Content Mods. I was enlightened by this convo as to why the action of renaming is running supremely unsmoothly when performing as regular Users, and sadly confirming the same for Content Mods. I think, on big Wikis with an enormous amount of images and with a large amount being ill-named, with the fact that there are other stuff with more priority for Admins and B-crats to handle, it honestly makes more sense for Content Mods to at least have a higher ratelimit than regular Users to perform the task. If there's some hierarchy needed, I can respect that, and can understand Content Mods having a lesser ratelimit than Admins/B-crats. To be the same as regular Users though, is honestly quite painful, because while the Right is needed since regular Users can't rename filename, its ratelimit isn't allowing Users with that Right to fully perform without hinderance.
  3. What feedback do you have on the recent Discussions updates? Do you think they were helpful, not worth the time?

WIP. --Sammm✦✧(talk) 05:09, February 25, 2019 (UTC)

RE Survey

Greetings, just a quick question. What are the "recent Discussions updates" mentioned in your survey? When were they made and what were they? Just want to be clear what the feedback is supposed to be directed at. Thanks --Ironyak1 (talk) 17:43, February 25, 2019 (UTC)

Umm, you want feedback on how the bell and envelope icons look? I think I'm going to have to hold off until there is actually some significant change to bother commenting on (given that ti's been teased and promised for months now). Cheers --Ironyak1 (talk) 03:41, February 26, 2019 (UTC)

RE:Happy Birthday

RE Two things

Thanks for the heads-up on the spelling issue - it's corrected now. I've also replied on the Ask a Mod issue. Cheers --Ironyak1 (talk) 23:21, March 9, 2019 (UTC)

Re:New signature

It looks good. I have abandoned mine. It was too much of a mess. Back to being normal. XDD Reverb frost (talk) 04:38, March 11, 2019 (UTC)

Request for Permissions

As you've noticed, the method for choosing Discussion Mods has been voted in. Thanks for your input on this matter as many others clearly supported your middle ground suggestions. I'll be posting your nomination for Discussion Mod in a couple days and will leave a message for you here to make sure you are available to make the first reply with any information you would like to initially share with everyone. So think about getting that ready and let me know if there are any questions in the meantime. Cheers --Ironyak1 (talk) 06:55, March 16, 2019 (UTC)

Discussions Mod nomination

Please let me know when you're around. I'm ready to post your Discussion Mod nomination and want to make sure you're able to make the first reply with any info you want to share. Thanks --Ironyak1 (talk) 17:16, March 18, 2019 (UTC)

Reply please

Hey - I got this message from VSTF regarding overlap of your IP with another user who was making trouble in Discussions. Can you let me know your response to this please? Thanks --Ironyak1 (talk) 02:50, March 24, 2019 (UTC)

Re: Your concern

I have left a note on Ironyak1's wall about emails - unfortunately I don't have access and that information is private. noreplyz talk 07:01, March 24, 2019 (UTC)

Congrats!

FYI, your shiny new Discussions Moderator permissions should be active now. Hope you had a good trip and look forward to thoughts you may have on improving Discussions. Congrats! --Ironyak1 (talk) 17:25, March 27, 2019 (UTC)

RE About the Amandahorses and Cameron Ravenclaw Blocks

In reviewing these accounts, Cameron Ravenclaw was unblocked back in summer of 2018 by The Dark Marc (although the profile page still had the {{banned}} template on it. In reviewing Amandahorses, I didn't see any links to the bad behavior, any posts of concern, or any signs of wanrnings or shorter term blocks being used. As such, I have unblocked them as well and removed the banned template. Cheers --Ironyak1 (talk) 01:49, April 10, 2019 (UTC)

RE Can you look into this please?

I think you just forgot the closing |} bracket for the table definition in {{dmod}}. Should be fixed now - give it another go. Cheers --Ironyak1 (talk) 04:19, April 21, 2019 (UTC)

Re: Congrats!

Hey there Dave! Thank you for your kind words! I think I was aware of being close to the edit count like last week, and then just forgot about it with everything happening lol. Thanks again for the message. =] --Sammm✦✧(talk) 13:52, April 29, 2019 (UTC)

RE:Sig

Sorry, forgot to update my autosig (which I use typically to theme some sigs to a wiki's topic), been a while since I edited on a new wiki that uses talk pages.TIMESHADE |T - C| 05:47, May 18, 2019 (UTC)

Re:I might get killed for this...

Oh my god... this is hilarious. I would estimate that about 50% of what was written is true.

RE: Moderator Action

Hey Dave!

Sure, no problem: I deleted a spam post (https://harrypotter.fandom.com/f/p/2858819174614959989/r/3344233352136815778). I'm allowed to delete really obvious spam even if I'm not assigned to this community. :D If I shouldn't have done it, I'm sorry and I won't take action anymore!

Best regards --DarkBarbarian.pngBarbar @fandom (talk) 10:41, June 11, 2019 (UTC)

Hey!

It's been a while! How's things? I see you have quite the number of wikis under your belt now O.o

Btw, how did you get that cool Discussions Mod template? I'm envious... -- MagnificentMagnus   Talk   Contribs 07:02, June 20, 2019 (UTC)

RE New GDM

Thanks for bringing this up. I am not in support of any GDM acting on well maintained site without the support of the local admins & moderators. I saw that you questioned another GDM about their mod activities recently which to me appears the best path forward. No doubt acting with the best of intentions, GDMs are likely not aware of the history or nuance of the Guidelines or users that would likely influence how best to solve a situation. We can keep an eye on the Insights and address issues as needed. Cheers --Ironyak1 (talk) 16:09, June 29, 2019 (UTC)

RE GDM Actions Continuing

Thanks for bringing this up. I've taken the usual steps for a user violating policy/consensus. If they decide to work around this or continue the behavior, then additional steps will be taken including involving Staff. Cheers --Ironyak1 (talk) 04:57, July 18, 2019 (UTC)
