Re: Fleur Delacour

I'm not the one who did that. I only reverted the edits of Thorning, not yours. --ÈnŔîčö DCRavenclawcrest(Send me an Owl!) 23:58, December 22, 2009 (UTC)

RE; Ronald Weasley

There ya go, Im going to work on some more spacing issues with that articles. -- Ratneer Owl Me! 21:25, December 27, 2009 (UTC)

Oh that is no problem, At least you are working on the articles. Really, the Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger Articles need a lot of work. It is because since they are big articles, the small mistakes are quite often overlooked. -- Ratneer Owl Me! 21:29, December 27, 2009 (UTC)

RE: hermione Granger

Ahh Ok. Thanks -- Ratneer Owl Me! 06:26, January 1, 2010 (UTC)

The one with the Newspaper? Yea, I changed it back to the original one up there. -- Ratneer Owl Me! 06:34, January 1, 2010 (UTC)

I like this one. I think it shows the 'other' side of hermione. It is also from DH, so it is the newest one there is. -- Ratneer Owl Me! 06:58, January 1, 2010 (UTC)

RE:Re: Bellatrix Lestrange

Because the books never deny the presence of Bellatrix. Under this wiki's canon policy, things in the movies that do not contradict the books are considered canon. --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 00:05, January 3, 2010 (UTC)

Re: Harry Potter

Reverted the edits and left the user a fanon warning. Thanks for the notice. - Nick O'Demus 07:52, January 3, 2010 (UTC)

To my knowledge, she hasn't given any interviews recently, and any interview with that kind of info would be all over the fandom by now. Accio Quote is one of the best reference sites out there for interview transcripts and links. The ones in 2007, just after Deathly Hallows came out, have some of the best information. I especially recommend the "Bloomsbury Live Chat", "J. K. Rowling at Carnegie Hall", and "PotterCast Interviews J.K. Rowling" parts 1 and 2. - Nick O'Demus 08:03, January 3, 2010 (UTC)

Re:Unidentified Lethal Curse

It looks like Jayden Matthews already reverted it. By the way, have you considered asking for rollback privileges? It useful for reverting multiple vandalism edits. - Nick O'Demus 11:16, January 4, 2010 (UTC)

Yes, go to a Admin, type this on Search Harry Potter Wiki and maybe one of them is online. Look at Home and you see of they are online. --Station7 21:47, January 5, 2010 (UTC)

Because of his vandalism on your page, section Favourite Page looks horrible. If I was you, I would removed, with == and then the name Favourite Pages == as new section. So remove and then change the page. It's just a suggestion, it's your choice.--Station7 21:59, January 5, 2010 (UTC)

Re:Viktor Krum

Harry certainly, maybe Ron, Cedric, Fleur, and Karkaroff too, if only a few sentences each. to be honest, most of the "Relationships" sections in the Wiki need a lot of work. There have been a few discussions over in the forums about setting some standards, but I don't think anything's come of it yet. - Nick O'Demus 19:04, January 10, 2010 (UTC)

I'm not sure if they ever used the term themselves, but Hermione refers to them as "the Marauders" in Half-Blood Prince, when Dobby tells them about Draco using the Room of Requirement. I think JKR has also called them "the Marauders" in interviews. - Nick O'Demus 08:57, January 11, 2010 (UTC)

Re: Spring Semester

It's an error that crops up occassionally. Some people just forget that, for example, the school year in Chamber of Secrets takes place in 1992 AND 1993, or they might get confused about when during the school year certain events take place. It's definitely something to keep an eye out for. - Nick O'Demus 09:02, January 13, 2010 (UTC)

There's not much that can be done about "hit-and-run" vandalism, where some anonymous IP pops in, does one or two vandal edits, and then most likely never posts again. For registered users and persistent vandalism, you can add warning templates to the offender's talk page, and inform an admin so they can block the user if necessary.

{{fanon}} - for users adding fanon to pages or creating fanon articles.
{{vandal}} - for relatively minor vandalism, or generally unhelpful edits.
{{vandal2}} - for persistent or major vandalism, such as vulgarity, profanity, or explicit material.
{{last}} - for repeated and deliberate vandalism, make sure you inform an admin about the user's actions.

RE:Ghoul Studies

Yes, I know that (I was the one who created the "Ghoul Studies" article). However, to be featured in an article, an individual/creature/place/object/whatever has to be mentioned on a canon tier. I do not believe the professor has been mentioned anywhere. --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 23:36, January 17, 2010 (UTC)

Leaving warnings

Please don't encourage vandals as you did here. Although you left the warning, your comment also praised his work, and could lead to more vandalism as a result. Cheers, Grunny (Talk) 02:01, January 18, 2010 (UTC)

No, I don't think there's an actual policy concerning that, but the usage of -s's in proper nouns (as in "Sirius's bike") has been conventioned on this wiki, and is prefered for consistency's sake. --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 02:40, January 18, 2010 (UTC)

Re: Patronus

This happens every once in a while for articles with conjectural titles. The existing article is fairly complete as far as information, but if you think your title is more descriptive, start a discussion on the talk page and see what some of the other users think. If there's a consensus, it can be redirected.

Oh, and sorry about not getting back to you on the month pages thing. I was working on something else and it completely slipped my mind. I think it's fine to list some of the key events, although I've usually paid more attention to the year articles myself. But if you think you can improve them, by all means do so.

And you're welcome. You've earned it.

Nick O'Demus 08:32, January 22, 2010 (UTC)

If you have move, you can use it. If you don't have it, you can't use it. I like the title: Patronus (class). You can always making an discussion before you change something.--Station7 22:21, January 22, 2010 (UTC)

No, they don't. Grawp called her Hermy because he couldn't pronunce her name, and Binns called her Miss Grant because he mistook her for someone else. Jayden Matthews 22:48, January 24, 2010 (UTC)

They should'nt be, I've removed them. Jayden Matthews 22:53, January 24, 2010 (UTC)

Yes, I see Jayden has a problem with that, that I have addressed him on. -- Ratneer Owl Me! 22:56, January 24, 2010 (UTC)

I think in order to be considered an alias, they have to use the name themselves at some point, but as far as I know, there isn't a set policy on it. This is something people have been going back and forth on for a long time now. Maybe it's time we voted on settling this either way.
I'm just about to head out for a while. Hold down the fort if any vandals show up again. - Nick O'Demus 23:03, January 24, 2010 (UTC)
Please see Forum:Specualtion in infoboxes. Jayden Matthews 23:06, January 24, 2010 (UTC)
No we are not adding nicknames to the alias fields. There's no such thing as non-voluntary alias. An alias is a name which a person adopts and uses for themselves. Jayce DarkmarkAvada KedavraCrucioImperio 23:24, January 24, 2010 (UTC)

I'd recommend starting a forum topic, something along the lines of "Proposal for Infobox Guidelines policy". The existing Character infobox family guidelines policy could be expanded to include the proposed changes too, as well as any other suggestions people might make. Give it a day or two for discussion and suggestions, then move forward the vote. You can look at Forum:Past/Present tense? and Forum:Vote to change the Wiki's Canon Policy as examples. - Nick O'Demus 07:21, January 25, 2010 (UTC)

That's good. Working on articles needing cleanup is always appreciated. I expanded the proposal on the forum a bit. Let me know what you think. - Nick O'Demus 08:18, January 25, 2010 (UTC)
I've finalized the proposals in the "Alias" policy forum discussion. The vote will officially begin in 24 hours to allow for any final recommendations.
BTW, if you don't want to delete it outright, you can hide the ranting further down by placing <!-- before the comments and --> after them. That will hide them from view so that they'll only be visible when editing the page. - Nick O'Demus 10:09, January 28, 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, I was tryin to do just that. -- GrouchMan (Send an owl then scram!!) 22:57, January 25, 2010 (UTC)

RE:Book pages

I completely agree with you. It would look much more nice if the book/film/game articles were uniformized. Maybe we should set a standard over at the Wizengamot. --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 12:28, January 26, 2010 (UTC)

Like Seth, I agree with a standardised policy for book/movie/game articles. If you have a proposal to make, float a discussion on the Wizengamot forum and let the community take a crack at it. - Cavalier OneGryffindorcrest(Wizarding Wireless Network) 08:24, January 27, 2010 (UTC)

RE: Marauder Map Edit

In reply to your message: I think I read it in a book, but I'm not sure of it. I think Harry was trying to trail Draco with the map, and there was a mass of students in the room Draco was in and the dots must have gotten smaller as more kids filled into the room.

Thanks, TwilightPrincess_1

For your information, I've been a member of this site longer, and have contributed far more to it than you, so please keep your comments to your self. Also, just because you are currently losing the vote doesn't give you the right to go around complaining. Jayce DarkmarkAvada KedavraCrucioImperio 10:46, January 31, 2010 (UTC)

RE:Period placement

Checking on the web, I found this: "The British style of positioning periods and commas in relation to the closing quotation mark is based on the same logic that in the American system governs the placement of question marks and exclamation points; if they belong to the quoted material, they are placed within the closing quotation mark; if they belong to the including sentence as a whole, they are placed after the quotation mark." So, I guess in that case both are acceptable. Sorry about that, as I thought it was comma/period always out of the quotation-marks. --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 00:01, February 7, 2010 (UTC)

Bah, I hate these tiny aspects of grammar! =) --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 00:14, February 7, 2010 (UTC)
While we're yaking about grammar, I also found out that the usage of a comma before and in a series is optional: "Most business writers prefer to use the "serial comma" before and in a series of three or more items. For example, "I like carrots, broccoli, and succotash." Most newspapers, however, omit the comma before and. Whatever your preference, be consistent".--  Seth Cooper  owl post! 00:39, February 7, 2010 (UTC)

Re: Second Wizarding War

Yeah, no problem. Since I nominated it for FA, I wanted to make sure it was reffed. If you want, you can go through and try to be more specific about book chapters. With everything clumped together just by title, the references section can get kind of bloated. --Cubs Fan (Talk to me) 21:23, February 7, 2010 (UTC)

Re: Sirius & Buckbeak — from what I see, it looks good. And I moved the refs from the lead paragraph; that's the only section that doesn't need to be reffed. --Cubs Fan (Talk to me) 20:30, February 8, 2010 (UTC)

Re: OOU Policy

Sure, but I'm not going to close the infobox vote just yet, for two reasons:

  1. A vote was struck that technically does meet basic voting policy, so it's still only a +2 majority. I haven't unstruck it yet since I'm leaving it untouched at the moment, because of...
  2. This (the first part, anyway). It's hard to say what the implications will be, but for now I think it'd be best not to open or close any votes until he's finished his investigation. This could also affect previous votes that had been closed.

I agree the section could use some expansion, and that Harry is indeed skilled, but I just think the way they'd written it was a bit too much. Making Harry out to be some nigh-invincible dueling-"Master" from the instances they cited is really stretching the NPOV policy. To say Harry was undefeated except for a couple of times isn't entirely accurate, as we really don't see Harry engaging in what could be considered a traditional duel all that often to begin with, unless you count the video games, which depends on the player's skill. And the parts about about how Draco must have been trained in combat by Lucius and Lupin only had the element of surprise were highly speculative. Not to mention that citing the duel against Snape, one of the instances that could be considered a traditional duel, in which he was almost effortlessly swatted aside, doesn't really support their position.

In other news, Cavalier One blocked the two sock puppet accounts and struck their votes from the Infobox Alias Forum discussion, so the voting is now closed and #2 won. I'll ask an admin to change the field title in the infobox templates, since some of them are protected, then we'll need to start going ahead with implementing the policy changes. Now that it's resolved, it might also be a good time to move forward with discussions on the OoU article formatting policy. I've also struck the sock puppets' votes on the Cedric Diggory and Salazar Slytherin talk pages, which has effectively re-opened the voting for both as it put them below the +3 clear majority.

I also made a new userbox, let me know what you think. - Nick O'Demus 16:28, February 23, 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, I know Snape was using Legilimency, but my point is, assuming he didn't have his mother's protection or mastery of the Elder Wand, could Harry have gone head-to-head with Voldemort, Dumbledore, Snape, or Bellatrix? Extremely unlikely. He's the best D.A.D.A. student in his year, and by the time of OotP, probably the best in the entire school at that point, but that's a long way from saying he's a "Master Duelist" and "one of the best duellists of his time".
That rewrites' much better. Although, the use of "injured or incapacitated" twice is a bit redundant. How about changing "along with Dumbledore and Remus Lupin, was the only fighter on their side not to be injured or incapacitated" to "along with Dumbledore and Remus Lupin, was one of the only fighters on their side to emerge from the battle relatively unharmed".

Thanks for the update. I fixed it and left a message on his talk page. -- GrouchMan (Send an owl then scram!!) 21:22, February 23, 2010 (UTC)

harry potter

To you

on the lilly ptter nee evans page, it clearly states that she is a muggle-born witch. as harry's dad was a wizard, harry is a pure-blood wizard.

therefore, will you stop changing my correct edits.

Battle of the Astronomy Tower

You mean the one with Bellatrix and the DEs? Yes, it does. --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 02:37, February 25, 2010 (UTC)

What about now? --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 02:53, February 25, 2010 (UTC)

Re:Killing Curse

I went ahead and tidied up the "Etymology" section of the Killing Curse article. Wiktionary's translation of the Aramaic phrase ("what was said has been done") is different than the translation JKR gave at the Edinburgh Book Festival in 2004 ("let the thing be destroyed"). JKR seems to have gotten her etymological information from an inaccurate source, but what she has to say is still notable, as it influenced her naming of the spell. RE:Off Topic Forums

I edited the Wizengamot header with a link to Wikianswers. Hopefully this will prevent further creation of off-topic forums. --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 00:34, February 27, 2010 (UTC)

RE:Attack at the Hogwarts Lake

Seems fine, but I promise I'll proofread and reference it thoroughly either tomorrow or Sunday. --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 01:12, February 27, 2010 (UTC)

The "Minister for Magic individual infobox" is going to be deleted, so please do not re-add it to any articles. Thanks. 16:25, February 27, 2010 (UTC)

RE:Minister for magic infobox

See Template talk:Minister for Magic individual infobox. --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 16:28, February 27, 2010 (UTC)

It was my fault really, I should have explained properly. Sorry, and you don't look like an arse. 16:50, February 27, 2010 (UTC)

Hey, this unregistered contributor says I deserve to be warned because I created that infobox. Can you set him straight. He doesn't seem to be listening to me about it. Thanks.--L.V.K.T.V.J.Hogwarts(Send an owl!) 17:07, February 27, 2010 (UTC)

I wasn't complaining about the infobox being deleted. Yes, I am not in the best spirits about it, but I wasn't happy about the unregistered contributor saying I should be warned. That's all.--L.V.K.T.V.J.Hogwarts(Send an owl!) 17:23, February 27, 2010 (UTC)
Agreed. But you should know, when I talk about warnings it's not intended as a punishment. It's just to dissuade people from doing it again in the future, as the creation of new infoboxes is supposed to be discussed first. 17:27, February 27, 2010 (UTC)

Agreed. Just for the record, it was LVKTVJ who initiated conversation with me. I never warned him, or tried to. 17:35, February 27, 2010 (UTC)

Can you give your opinion on the requests for permissions page?--L.V.K.T.V.J.Hogwarts(Send an owl!) 03:20, March 1, 2010 (UTC)

I actually meant more toward Nick O'Demus being nominated for an administrator by me, but thanks for vouching for me in the rollback permissions part.--L.V.K.T.V.J.Hogwarts(Send an owl!) 21:50, March 1, 2010 (UTC)

Voting policy

Check my response on their talk page. Typically, as long as the admins were aware of the vote, they usually let it proceed. For example, in the recent Infobox Alias vote, both Seth Cooper and Startuff participated, and Cavalier One struck votes that violated policy. No administrator objected or took issue. - Nick O'Demus 10:20, March 2, 2010 (UTC)

By all means. I've already pointed out to them repeatedly that they can inform the admins themselves if they think there's a policy violation. I have yet to see them do so. - Nick O'Demus 10:26, March 2, 2010 (UTC)
There's a technicality I've brought up on their talk page. Think we need to vote on it? : ) - Nick O'Demus 10:42, March 2, 2010 (UTC)
Same person, no doubt. Already left them a message. - Nick O'Demus 20:53, March 2, 2010 (UTC)

Voting Policy

I'm just following the rules, you're breaking them. You cannot go running off to Seth Cooper whenever someone disagrees with you. 10:28, March 2, 2010 (UTC)

Happy Birthday, Hcoknhoj/Archive 1!

RE:Thank You

You're welcome. I think that user's main beefs is that he thought the image was from Prisoner of Azkaban. Thankfully, user Remus Black clarified the subject by presenting the uncropped version of the image in order to prove it was from Half-Blood Prince. I reckon there should be no more problems about that for now. --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 21:52, March 3, 2010 (UTC)

I have archived the vote and made the winning photo on the main image.--L.V.K.T.V.J.Hogwarts(Send an owl!) 00:56, March 4, 2010 (UTC)

By the way, you should think about archiving your talk page. It's getting pretty long.--L.V.K.T.V.J.Hogwarts(Send an owl!) 00:58, March 4, 2010 (UTC)

RE:Hermoine Granger's main image

Thank you! Yesterday, the vote was closed early, but as the unregistered user questioned the voting's legality and impartiality, we decided to leave it open until Sunday (March 7th). --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 18:42, March 4, 2010 (UTC)

You're right. --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 18:42, March 4, 2010 (UTC)

Cool. What do you mean "accusations of impropriety"? -- GrouchMan (Send an owl then scram!!) 21:33, March 4, 2010 (UTC)

Sounds good. By the way I think you should archive your talk page now. It's gettin pretty long. -- GrouchMan (Send an owl then scram!!) 21:45, March 4, 2010 (UTC)
Move your current talk page to "User talk:Hcoknhoj/Archive 1" & use the redirect (this page) as your new talk page. I hope this helps. -- GrouchMan (Send an owl then scram!!) 21:49, March 4, 2010 (UTC)

There are two ways: cut and paste, or page move. Both are outlined step-by-step here. - Nick O'Demus 21:50, March 4, 2010 (UTC)

No problem. Which option you choose is just a matter of where you prefer the page's history be kept. Option 1 (cut and paste) keeps the entire talk page history on the main talk page. Option 2 (page move) moves the history for that time period to the talk page archive as well.
