Re: Do you need permission to post quotes?

Not that I'm aware of, as long as they're canon, fit the topic and don't overcrowd a page.

I haven't followed too closely your edit history on Harry Potter's page, but there were a few problems, such as removal of editor-restricted instructions and some formatting out of whack. I would therefore add the quote and wait a couple of days before editing again, just to see what happens. MinorStoop 20:03, December 17, 2013 (UTC)

Too late, I already did on yours. And it's "respond", not "resond". :)
Also, allow me to inform you that removal of messages from another user's talk page is generally a bad idea, as a matter of both form (it's her/his talk page) and practicality (there's no way to know when a detail mentioned in the removed text may be needed). Only exceptions are obvious vandalism or (more rarely) grammar/spelling issues. MinorStoop 20:07, December 17, 2013 (UTC)
Sorry, the only removal of messages I have ever removed from someone's talk has been one of my own.
Misskatniss1546 (talk) 20:11, December 17, 2013 (UTC)Misskatniss1546
Granted, but it's still something generally not done unless it's vandalism. :) Should you want to dismiss some text of yours try using the strike tags <strike> and </strike> (they'll do this to the text they enclose) and then explain why. At least it always worked for me. MinorStoop 20:24, December 17, 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for telling me that.

MK, please take care to position links to pictures on a line to themselves, either before or after a paragraph, so that they do not disrupt the paragraph itself. I also noticed that sometimes (Lupin's wand) they do not fit the topic of the section they've been put in. Thanks, MinorStoop 07:04, December 23, 2013 (UTC)

Okay, thank you.

Re:Lavender Brown

At the top of my head, can't think any reason why we shouldn't. I always thought of her as a somewhat of a fluffhead, based primarily on her liking of Divination, and let's not forget she lost out in the Battle of Hogwarts and died a short time later. I would therefore agree about her NEWT-level Transfiguration and Divination, but would ask a question or two about her DA-based defensive magic on her article's talk page, before mentioning it. MinorStoop 23:51, December 25, 2013 (UTC)

That makes sense now that you mention it. The fact that she did die in the Battle of Hogwarts dosen't show skill in the area of defensive magic. I think your right adding the NEWT-level Transfiguration and Divination should be all.

I put my suggestion on the Lavender Brown talk page.

As per my previous post, please take care to place your pictures in a line to themselves, before a paragraph. It helps both in showing them correctly in the viewed page, and in editing the same page in the editor. It helps if you're in source mode - this can be set up in "your preferences", in the "editing" page. Thank you. MinorStoop 21:48, December 29, 2013 (UTC)

I could have sworn I had done that, thank you.

Misskatniss1546 (talk) 21:50, December 29, 2013 (UTC)Misskatniss1546

Not on Remus Lupin's page - it seemed the kind of bad positioning more easily resulting from working in visual editor than in text editor. :) MinorStoop 22:30, December 29, 2013 (UTC)

Re: Luna- Care of Magical Creatures

Most certainly. However I can't provide a reference. If you can't either, add a note in the "Edit Summary" field. MinorStoop 22:29, December 30, 2013 (UTC) P.S. I would also go ahead with the Lavender's skills in Divination and Transfiguration. Nobody answered, so we can accept that as a tacit assent. MS

Making decisions

Hi there! I notice that, in quite a few cases, you've been asking User:MinorStoop for advice regarding edits to a particular page. While there is nothing wrong with communicating about major edits with a fellow member of the wiki, decisions that only affect a single page are best discussed on the talk page of the article in question, so that the whole userbase can be a part of the discussion. -- 1337star (Drop me a line!) 01:13, December 31, 2013 (UTC)

Ya know, 1337 is right - changes to only one article are best discussed on the article's talk page.
The only disagreement I might have with him is whether a character's magical skill is "major". I often went ahead and rewrote a sentence whose structure I disliked or deleted an unsupported paragraph and nobody complained. Sometimes, being bold pays. MinorStoop 02:51, December 31, 2013 (UTC)
Should I undo the edits I made? There right though with evidence to back them up and no one has undone them yet.
Misskatniss1546 (talk) 03:07, December 31, 2013 (UTC)Misskatniss1546
Nope. Let somebody else revert your edits, if they think they're wrong. :) MinorStoop 07:46, December 31, 2013 (UTC)

Resourcefulness a skill

Well, there's a "Bravery" section in Neville Longbottom's "Magical abilities and skills", so I don't see no reason why you shouldn't go ahead. MinorStoop 22:57, January 2, 2014 (UTC)

Your edits

One of your recent edits has been considered to be factually dubious by a few editors, and it called to my attention that you're not providing references to support your edits. All material on this wiki needs to be cited so it can be proven as true. A lot of it unfortunately isn't right now, but that doesn't mean adding unsourced material is acceptable. This page gives a brief tutorial on how to do it, and you can look on almost any major page on this wiki to see the general format (for instance, references from the books are generally formatted ). Unsourced material, even if true, may be at risk of being deleted. Please take this into consideration in the future. -- 1337star (Drop me a line!) 07:06, January 21, 2014 (UTC)

MK, could you come and try to talk some sense into the guy on my talk page? He seems to think that adding two words that have to do with Fluffy's origin mythology is a horrible crime. I've tried reasoning, but, he seems beyond logic at this point. Dr. Galenos (talk) 13:53, April 29, 2014 (UTC)

I saw your edits on several pages, e.g. Fred Weasley, Lavender Brown, changing "Hogwarts Castle" to "Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry". I will undo it because "Hogwarts Castle" means the building. (First floor, second floor, etc) Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry means the school itself (the four Houses, the history, etc). Thank you for the information. There's one wiki page I need the picture to be changed to the original, Tom Riddle. Please and thank you! Xo

I change pictures because they either need to be different (It gets quite boring after seeing the original for so long), or because there are much more attractive ones.

Image policy

I think I should direct your attention to the image policy. When uploading pictures to the wiki, one must assure said pictures are sourced and categorised properly, to keep images neat, "searchable", and to make sure we don't include fanon in articles.

RE:Dolores Umbridge and Bellatrix Lestrange

I took that picture down because it serves no point in that part of the article. It's just a picture of Umbridge against an empty background -- pictures are supposed to illustrate what's being said in the accompanying text. As for Bellatrix, that image was taken from a promotional picture, it's meant to be representative of the character, so I'm guessing they depicted her with her old wand just because that's the wand we see her most often with. --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 18:42, July 23, 2015 (UTC)

She is not Male

Hi, going through the list of male names and it has Petrova Porskoff listed as being in the male category and she is not male. How do you change her from being in the male category (and on the list of male names) to being in the female category? I figure since you know how to put pictures up, that you know your way around a computer better than I do. (Vaudree (talk) 03:31, December 11, 2015 (UTC))

hi, You just changed back the page of Umbridge, to put back the title of the charges brought against her back to "crime against humanity"

I had changed it because I never found anything supporting that title, even less in the source provided.

So, can you please provide Us with your source, so that it doesn't clash with the one already provided?

Thank you.

Don Silk.

Hey, just a note: you don't have to pipe links in order to change the beginning letter from uppercase to lowercase; for example, "the Burrow". The wiki editing software capitalizes links by default, so "the Burrow" is the same thing as "The Burrow". --Cubs Fan (Talk to me) 01:47, January 30, 2016 (UTC)

I know, but it looks weird. In the book the is not capitalized in front of the Burrow and it just bothers me that it is on the wiki.Misskatniss1546 (talk) 16:26, January 30, 2016 (UTC)Misskatniss1546

File Names

When you are uploading files, can you please ensure they're uploaded with appropriate file names? Simply using whatever generic file name appears when you use a screencapture program is not helpful and makes it impossible to find images. So in future, could you ensure your files are uploaded with appropriate names and not generic jumble that doesn't describe the file? Thanks. --Sajuuk 14:56, March 3, 2016 (UTC)

Relationships page

I reverted your edit there since it's part of a project I have to clean up the Harry Potter page in general. There were too many "unnecessary" pictures and an excessive amount of links, not to mention a bad format and layout, which the new page is attempting to sort, by grouping relationships into common groups. If you disagree, then please make use of the article's talkpage. :) --Sajuuk 12:40, March 8, 2016 (UTC)

I have nothing against the new page on his relationships. It's just that the new format of the page isn't as informative as it could be and it's layout doesn't look the best.Misskatniss1546 (talk) 12:49, March 8, 2016 (UTC)Misskatniss1546
That's fine. The new page is really meant to focus on Harry's "notable" relationships, rather than just every other person he talked to. Essentially, the people listed there are those who "directly affected" Harry's life in some way. People like Argus Filch and Moaning Myrtle did nothing to affect Harry, so they're not mentioned. Ensuring that the page is kept focused in this way will prevent many issues that can arise from pages like this (where people just add every person possible).
Also, the images should be kept minimal as it's mostly a textual resource. One or two images per "notable character" is better, especially as there's not much text per heading (for most of them) anyway.
As to the quotes thing: there's no real need for an excessive number of quotes. They don't really enhance the article and just make it look messy. Most of the quotes didn't really add anything about Harry's relationship with that specific person, just quoted some random excerpt from the books that someone felt was relevant, even when it wasn't.
Of course, if the wiki decides on the talkpage to include some additional quotes, then they can be added. I based this page off another wiki's relationships article, which just has one quote at the top of the page and nothing more than that. --Sajuuk 12:55, March 8, 2016 (UTC)
The intention is for me to have one "significant" quote at the very top of the page (above the article lead) and no other quotes elsewhere in the article. For the really significant characters (eg Albus Dumbledore and Lord Voldemort), I may add a quote under their headings, but I don't have the books at hand to read them (and I only listen to the audio CD's) so wouldn't be able to find a quote at hand very easily. --Sajuuk 13:22, March 8, 2016 (UTC)
I would bring up the point on the article's talkpage.
BTW: I wouldn't use VisualEditor. It's pretty bad and riddled in many bugs that can actually cause edits that appear as vandalism. I highly recommend using the source editor (which is what I use) and it makes it way easier to edit the wiki when using source mode. :)
Sidepoint: there's no real need to specify exact image sizes as it just looks cluttered when the images are all different sizes. MediaWiki is smart software and is good with thumbnailing itself, not to mention that specifying an exact image size messes up any local user browser settings which they might set to override how we specify the images.
In an article like this, it's also better to keep the links in the main article body and not in the image caption, otherwise they're not very likely to be clicked and will also probably be missed. --Sajuuk 13:38, March 8, 2016 (UTC)

Link Templates

Hi there - I'm hoping you might be able to take a look at the Forum - Link Template discussion. SuperSajuuk and I have spent some time working on some templates to act as short codes for the common articles seen in the Appearances and Reference sections. The idea is to provide short codes with options that are easy to read and that users can quickly type. For instance:

or for references

or more complicated, but saving a lot of typing

Given your many edits here I'd be interested in your thoughts on the use of these to help reduce file size, make a consistent display, and more quickly edit articles. Thanks! --Ironyak1 (talk) 01:50, May 14, 2016 (UTC)

That would be great. Editing gets tedious when you have to type out the entire name for a certain book or movie. Misskatniss1546 (talk) 13:10, May 14, 2016 (UTC)Misskatniss1546
Glad to hear you like the idea! if you could post a quick note Here in the Forums it will help everyone better keep track of the feedback. Thanks again! (PS the alternating screenshots are looking nice). --Ironyak1 (talk) 17:38, May 14, 2016 (UTC)

Millicent Bulstrode Image

Hi there - there is discussion about whether File:HP2-0143.jpg is in fact Millicent Bulstrode. Although it's been a while (18 months) since you added this image, I was hoping you might have any extra information or insight as to why you choose that individual as Millicent. Thanks --Ironyak1 (talk) 12:49, May 21, 2016 (UTC)

I'm not the one who choose that individual as Millicent you need to go farther back.Misskatniss1546 (talk) 02:18, May 23, 2016 (UTC)Misskatniss1546

You're right - thanks! I saw that you had uploaded the image so figured it might have been for this page, but it looks like Seth assigned it to Millicent so he'll get to do the explaining. :) Cheers --Ironyak1 (talk) 04:35, May 23, 2016 (UTC)

Hey. Please stop changing the Gerallet Grindelwald page. The thing about him and Albus is not true. It was never mentioned in the books and JK Rowling never said it. If she did, and I'm wrong please send a link showing where you got that info. Fenrirgreyback02 (talk) 18:33, June 9, 2016 (UTC)

I have no idea what your talking about I never added anything about Dumbledore and Gellert. You can check my edits, thank you.

Misskatniss1546 (talk) 18:41, June 9, 2016 (UTC)Misskatniss1546

Hey! I was wrong in my other message. Another HP fan sent me a link for that thing. Just wanted to apologize. Fenrirgreyback02 (talk) 19:10, June 9, 2016 (UTC)

It's fine, no worries.Misskatniss1546 (talk) 19:19, June 9, 2016 (UTC)Misskatniss1546

Then I guess you would also try to change Harry, Ginny, Draco, Ron and Hermione's Photos as well.(which would be completely irrelevant).

And , the way you are talking, it feels like, Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows is no longer considered as canon.

LordJayden (talk) 15:15, August 2, 2016 (UTC)LordJayden

First of all, think twice before posting anything on anyone's talk page. And who are you to get my attention? And , I really don't have that much time to show an attitude with someone who doesn't even deserve to get it.

Since I don't like to edit my talk page, please don't mess up with it.Post your messages when you are actually worth it.

LordJayden (talk) 15:44, August 2, 2016 (UTC)LordJayden

For starters a talk page is for leaving messages of whatever kind and yes you did get an attitude as your doing right now. And if  you don't want my posts on your page then just delete them.--Misskatniss1546 (talk) 15:51, August 2, 2016 (UTC)Misskatniss1546

We have yet to actually reach an agreement on how best to deal with the old/new images. There are pros and cons for both.
Unfortunately, the idea that the images have to be up to date won't work, because then the trio's would have to be changed. There will be many actors playing the characters for many years. We cannot keep changing everyone's picture to suit the latest actor.
Also, the characters as they were portrayed in the film and the play are not how the characters would look in book canon anyway, so the idea that the way they look in the film is not how the characters look anymore, and that they now canonically look how they do in the play makes no sense.
Please view the forum on Character Images and Infoboxes to see the ongoing discussion we have had for a few months. I made a post there before. There is a way we can use both the film and the original play pictures, which should settle the argument once and for all. Any later actors for the play can go in a gallery. The infobox will only have the higher canon book descriptions. --Kates39 (talk) 16:01, August 2, 2016 (UTC)

RE Cursed Child pics?

Yep, they are completely usable, but as you're seeing some people don't prefer them. There will probably need to be a vote to figure out which everyone prefers. Let me see if I can wrangle an admin in to help guide this process. --Ironyak1 (talk) 16:05, August 2, 2016 (UTC)

I thought so, but as you said some people have a problem with it. Will the layout of characters on the the wiki need to change, considering that the trio, Ginny, Neville, and other aren't students anymore? I don't really care either way i just want to know.--Misskatniss1546 (talk) 16:09, August 2, 2016 (UTC)Misskatniss1546

We've gotten details from Pottermore and interviews about how the older characters develop and I think those have been incorporated into the articles (Neville has a hogwarts_staff infobox, Ginny has a daily prophet infobox, etc). Ultimately, voting in new images reflecting their older selves may even happen. Are there other changes you see being needed? --Ironyak1 (talk) 16:24, August 2, 2016 (UTC)
No I was just curious, thanks--Misskatniss1546 (talk) 16:27, August 2, 2016 (UTC)Misskatniss1546

Draco Malfoy edits

Please explain the purpose of your recent edits to the Draco Malfoy page. You removed links to subjects such as "goblin" for no apparent reason. ProfessorTofty (talk) 04:28, August 8, 2016 (UTC)

Feel free to relink them. I thought it didn't need to be linked. Most people know what goblins are and there's no need for the same thing to be linked five times in one paragraph.Misskatniss1546 (talk) 04:32, August 8, 2016 (UTC)Misskatniss1546
It's true that items don't generally need to be linked more than once, however, that was the only link to goblins on the page. So the excuse that it doesn't need to be linked five times doesn't fly. And it wasn't just "goblins" you delinked, you almost removed links to subjects such as "duel" or "Serpensortia." As for whether or not you felt it didn't need to be linked because people already know it, that's not for you to determine that. Both policy and standard practice indicate that if it's a subject covered on the wiki, then you link to it. ProfessorTofty (talk) 04:46, August 8, 2016 (UTC)
Alright then. I'm SO very sorry, thank you for clearing that up.Misskatniss1546 (talk) 04:48, August 8, 2016 (UTC)Misskatniss1546

Stop adding cluttering images to articles. There was no reason for you to re-add the useless image clutter to the Half-blood article after I cleaned it up other than to be disruptive. I have pointed out the problem with image clutter here. This needs to stop. Starstuff (Owl me!) 02:06, November 22, 2016 (UTC)

Well forgive me. I did not realize that it counted as useless image clutter. I'll be sure to never do it again and thank you for telling me nicely. I was not intentally trying to be disruptive and by the way I wasn't aware you pointed it out untill just now. I removed the cluttered images from other pages that was unintentional on my part. Misskatniss1546 (talk) 03:22, November 22, 2016 (UTC)Misskatniss1546

I know they're not against policy. I just think they should be avoided, for the reasons I stated. - Xanderen signature.png 18:37, December 3, 2016 (UTC) They only slow down pages if there are a lot of them. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Misskatniss1546 (talkcontribs).

Harry Potter

Hey - as discussed at Talk:First year#Transferring_Harry_Potter.27s_info, all of Harry's info is being added to his biography, as it does not belong inn First year, Second year, etc... There will be work needed to clean it up and format it, but just replacing it with the old summary isn't going to work. If you have other ideas, please add them to the talk page. Thanks --Ironyak1 (talk) 20:05, May 24, 2017 (UTC)

Our owls crossed :) Cleaning up sounds good - thanks! --Ironyak1 (talk) 20:07, May 24, 2017 (UTC)

Ralston Potter

Hello! I was wondering; where in Pottermore did you find this? I'm asking since Ralston is nowhere to be found on the Potter family tree feature. --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 03:58, February 5, 2018 (UTC)

I got it from another Harry Potter wikia page. Here is the link to the page I assumed that since the image looked legit and the info box was filled out, that the image was from the Potter family tree and therefore safe to use. If I was wrong then i'm sorry. Misskatniss1546 (talk) 04:15, February 5, 2018 (UTC)Misskatniss1546

No, I agree it does seem legit. Just thought it was weird it doesn't feature on the page. Thanks! --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 12:40, February 6, 2018 (UTC)

Video clip uploads

The videos you uploaded are in the process of being deleted by Seth Cooper (as are several others), on the grounds (amongst others) of copyright violation. Kindly note that just because the creator of a video claims it to be "fair use" (or a YouTube channel claims to be "the official Harry Potter channel"), that doesn't make such a claim true. Four seconds of video from a movie might qualify as fair use, but four minutes? Pull the other one.

In any case, one of the video creators is claiming to be covered by the "Copyright Act 1976" (you do realise that that's 42 years ago?), thereby showing that he's either ignorant or deliberately lying. The above Act has long been superseded by the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, which by now has probably itself been superseded by a more recent Act.

You need to be more careful; you could start by going back and removing all those "Media" sections you added. — evilquoll (talk) 23:16, February 14, 2018 (UTC)

Okay. Thanks for letting me know that. I already figured out that I messed up. I only added a few videos and you've already removed the sections. Misskatniss1546 (talk) 23:35, February 14, 2018 (UTC)Misskatniss1546

That's ok, we understand those weren't uploaded in bad faith. Cheers! --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 01:37, February 15, 2018 (UTC)

RE:Page creation

I guess that could be done, and it would definitely be interesting. Sorry for taking so long to reply! --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 00:24, March 11, 2018 (UTC)

Ministry official attack squad?

My eye-sight isn't very good at this text is small: Can you see, on the upper left advertisement, if there was an attack squad of sorts mentinoed at this image? Maester Martin (talk) 20:24, July 9, 2018 (UTC)

There is it says "Join the Ministry's only offical attack squad".Misskatniss1546 (talk) 20:27, July 9, 2018 (UTC)Misskatniss1546

Nothing against you. I replace any images that are, shall we say, faulty. I restored your promotional image. However, some, such as the Potions image from Chamber and the RAB cropped... you've "edited" them to be lighter without actually editing it properly; it seems like a photo editor was opened and out of the various different choices, you picked the one (presumably the second one) ex. the Weasley/Ron Gryffindor Quidditch team. Again, nothing against you - I update whatever images are unsatisfactory, and a handful were uploaded by you. Sometimes darker images need to be lightened up, yes, but one must do it properly, not just choosing a filter on an editing tool. That reduces the quality and color grade of the image and it shows. Murali9395 (talk) 16:48, July 20, 2018 (UTC)

Okay. Thanks. Misskatniss1546 (talk) 16:50, July 20, 2018 (UTC)Misskatniss1546

Image categorisation attention

Hello there, considering for what I would say the vast majority of your uploaded images, annoyingly enough, none of them are correctly categorised or given correct licences. The Image policy declares you must do this, or your images may end up being deleted. Whenever you upload anymore images, you must license them, and sort them accordingly. IF you intend on returning to edit, please go through all your image uploads and ensure they contain all the needed information, as I'm surprised nobody else has noticed you don't generally upload images properly. Thank you. RedWizard98 (talk) 00:14, May 20, 2019 (UTC)
