Counter-curse for Leg-Locker Curse

Hello! In what gaming platform of the first video game does the Counter-curse for Leg-Locker Curse make an appearance? If you told me, I could see if I could get a picture for that article. Thanks! --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 23:02, September 4, 2015 (UTC)

PS2, Xbox, and GCN. Sorry about forgeting a cite if I did.

Hello

I'm just gonna say that I will not be online anymore past 00:30 CET.
This is due to , ah, a long story on my side. I can tell you if you want to know if I see you, but until further notice I will probably not be online anymore past that time.

Cheers, and sorry! 민 태준 - 슈가 (Inconvenience me here!)

Sure thing. Thanks for letting me know

Oerk (talk) 21:16, January 11, 2019 (UTC)

I'm around again! Oh, and you should respond on my talk page, otherwise I won't know if you responded or not.
See you! 민 태준 - 슈가 (Inconvenience me here!)

I seem to be safe

Oh god, I think I don't have a restriction on weekends... It might just be dragged on to, idk, 1am, maybe, but it seems to be okay!

I'm around rn, but you're Away. You coming around?

Update

If I'm still around in a sec, then I have no restriction on weekends. See you! 민 태준 - 슈가 (Inconvenience me here!)

Good night!

I'll be around till 00:00 CET tonight.
Still working out how to get full access again. Easiest way is probably to get a part-time job and buy my own access point xD

Have a good night's sleep! See you soon.

Hello

I saw you online an hour ago. I still have a good hour left, care to come on? I wanna take my mind of things, nobody is coming on and I feel better talking to people.

Notice

I'm just gonna say I might not be around much. There's this kid, Wikiatastic. I didn't get her banned the first time because it was too much trouble, but until she's gone from the chat this time I might lay off a bit, she's driving me nuts.

If she ever joins, don't answer. Don't even say "hi". Trust me.

Vernon Dursley

Hi there, regarding the confusion with Vernon Dursley, it looks like someone vandalised the appearances section, simply with the year 1954 repeated several times. The references, are also currently non-existent in the references section. I cannot find who did this. It definitely needs fixing, which I can also help to do. Happy editing. RedWizard98 (talk) 01:17, January 30, 2019 (UTC)

Past-tense

All in-universe articles are to be written in Past-tense. The policy is here: https://harrypotter.fandom.com/wiki/Harry_Potter_Wiki:Policy#Style

"Articles should be written in the past tense, as if the editor is writing from a point in the future after the events in the series have taken place. This is to maintain a consistent and uniform feel to the articles, and to eliminate ambiguity by switching tenses in the middle of an article."

The original vote is here: https://harrypotter.fandom.com/wiki/Forum:Past/Present_tense%3F

Please stop switching articles to present tense and go back and correct any articles that you've changed in this way. Thanks --Ironyak1 (talk) 21:56, February 14, 2019 (UTC)

This is not a galaxy far far away. In-universe, magic things are still happening. This is fine for things like biographies and battles and historical events, but when you read the sentence "Sandwiches WERE a type of food" that's when you know things are getting out of hand. I stand by what I said. JK Rowling herself writes in the present tense on Pottermore. Oerk (talk)

Of course, this is not Pottermore and we are not JKR. The past-tense policy has been long adopted for in-universe articles. This is a standing policy based on community consensus that all editors are required to to follow. Sandwich is of course a {{Real world subject}} and has been written in the present-tense since its second edit in 2010. Please be sure to follow the Style Policy as it will be enforced. Thanks --Ironyak1 (talk) 22:17, February 14, 2019 (UTC)

A policy that is thankfully seldolm enforced, and for good reason: because it's terrible. Just because it is a policy does not mean it is a good approach to have. Quite the opposite in fact. Luckily, many prominent articles are written in present-tense, as they ought to, despite this wiki's policy. That's because the people who wrote them actually had a mind to have them make sense when read. I'm not going to link those articles, for fear of risking a pointless change of tense to past. I'm just glad that a majority of pages were written with some sense, rather than brainlessly following an outlandish policy. Maybe one day, this wiki stop having such a convoluted tense policy, where it does not treat every ordinary thing as though it was some ancient, historic thing that is long gone, when it so obviously isn't. But based on the mere fact that this policy has existed for so long, and plagued this wiki for that whole time unquestioningly, I seriously doubt it. Oerk (talk) 23:28, February 14, 2019 (UTC)

Again, as linked to from the Harry Potter Wiki:Policy, here is the original discussion and vote held on the matter. The results was that "All articles should be written in Past Tense, including Biographies. (EX. Harry Potter was a Wizard)" with Starstuff's modification of using present tense for real world articles being commonly adopted. No one is abusing the original intent of this policy by actually making sure articles abide by it. If you want to have a community-wide discussion on this policy with the potential for a new vote to change it, please start a new thread in The Forum. In the meantime, past community consensus and the related policies are active and will be enforced. Thanks --Ironyak1 (talk) 01:29, June 9, 2019 (UTC)

Concealment

Revealing spells and charms are not Concealment; Concealment is to conceal something obviously and Revealing is to remove the concealment, so it can't be concealed if it's revealed. IlvermornyWizard (talk) 06:59, February 22, 2019 (UTC) IlvermornyWizard

Ingredient infobox

Hi there. Wanted to check in with you about the new {{Ingredient infobox}} you've created to better understand the articles where it might apply. Is this just for Potions ingredients, or also for Food ingredients, and if so, aren't all Food ingredients also qualify for the {{Food and Beverage infobox}}? I just want to make sure there is clarity as to how this new infobox fits with the current ones. Thanks --Ironyak1 (talk) 19:28, March 4, 2019 (UTC)

Hi there. I created the Ingredient infobox(formerly Potion ingredient infobox) to organize the plethora of articles on potion ingredients that tend to follow patterns. Here's how I apply the infobox:

  • Is the object ONLY a potion ingredient? If so, then use.
  • Is the object a potion ingredient, but also used in non-foodstuffs? (e.g. bezoars, unicorn hair) Then use.
  • Is the object consumed or used like a potion but not explicitly a potion? (e.g. Re'em blood) Then use.
  • Is the object a plant? Don't use
  • Is the object an animal? Don't use
  • Is the object DERIVED from a plant or animal? Then use.
  • Is the object used in foodstuffs, and isn't a plant or animal? I suppose it depends on whether or not it is used primarily in foodstuffs. If there are 5 potion articles that use, say for example, onion juice, but only 1 foodstuff article that uses onion juice, then I would use the ingredient infobox. If there are 5 foodstuff articles that used onion juice, but only 1 potion article that uses onion juice, I would use the food infobox.

Hope this helps!

Magical powers

Hello, firstly I would like to say, I do very much like this category which you created dedicated to specific magical powers (along very much also with Soul-Related magic), which can be possessed by humans or beings, etc. But I disagree that all branches and sub-branches of transfiguration belong here. That is because by definition in speculative fiction, "power", is a unique ability or skill which an individual possesses, whereas forms of transfigurations are simply branches or sub-branches, of a branch of magic. If you were to go with a very broad defintion of power, you would need to place all forms of magic in this category, including spells, potions, branches of magic and other magical effects or phenomena, and the category therefore would no longer be defining. Other things, such as black and purple flames, also would not really apply to this category, as they are simply forms of bewitched fire. Furthermore I will mention, I think you are doing an overall superb job on editig this wikia compared to others, so do keep up editing. Good day RedWizard98 (talk) 11:16, March 29, 2019 (UTC).

Character physical descriptors

Here is the start of a long conversation about how to handle a character's physical descriptors from lower sources: https://harrypotter.fandom.com/wiki/Forum:Character_Images_and_Infoboxes?t=20170916234346

This conversation also pops up on several character articles such as: Talk:Newton_Scamander#Physical_description_sources

The outcome of all this was that physical descriptors for characters should only be based on the highest canon they appear in, even if that means having no physical descriptors. As Merlin is first mentioned in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, but never described, his physical descriptors are left blank and not based on an artist's rendering from a third-canon source (like Donaghan Tremlett - or is this Donaghan Tremlett?)

Also, you'll want to reconsider edit-warring or such issues. Talk pages exist for a reason so please use them as needed. Thanks --Ironyak1 (talk) 21:56, April 18, 2019 (UTC)

Except that there is no conflicting physical description of Merlin. First of all, every  game featuring his appearance (PS/COS, POA, and HM) have him with the same features, so the comparison with Donaghan Tremlett is moot. Second, in the proposal itself, the most voted on proposal was "Use written details first, and then any additional information from the latest portrayal." The written details are that there are no written details. It's just a name in every written source. The information from the latest potrayal, that is, his physical appearance from all three sources he appears in corroborate each other. Third, having no description does not override a known description, because if it did, then the image of Merlin wouldn't be on the page.

Protective Spells

Hello Oerk, considering your edit which removed the category "Protective Spells" from two categories, I did also remove concealment (as they completely unrelated), but I did restore "Dark Magic", not because all protective spells are dark charms (although some of them are), but the primary purpose of a protective spell is to protect one from the effects of dark magic, or other unpleasant effects. The category "Dark Magic" also contains closely related topics, such as protection (both spells and objects) and of course, the category for all things DADA. I specialise in the said category, so feel free to message me about it. RedWizard98 (talk) 01:39, May 22, 2019 (UTC)

Edit warring.

Please stop with your pointless and evidently bitter edit wars regarding the spell Protego Diabolica. I have sensibly decided to place this spell in the generic dark charms category alone, as it is a dark spell, which its spell type has not been officially stated. By removing this category without any real evidence or source, you totally removed it from the whole category of "Dark Magic" altogether, which was a huge error. Also, please stop with your juvenile wailing that I and may I mention several other editors have not categorised it under curses, with our logic time and time stating that while it probably is a curse, it still needs to be officially named as one. It is best to let arguments that you have clearly lost go, rather than attempting to revise them for no reason, only to try and prove a point that you are somehow a superior editor than me, for which you politely are not. I try my best to follow official wiki rules and policy (as well as Canon policy), in attempt to build an expansive and cohesive encyclopaedia of the Harry Potter universe, so you cannot hold any bitterness towards me for sticking to the rules. Edit warring is counter-productive and argumentative, and is generally poor editorial practise. I think perhaps if you disagree with me further, it would be a good idea to discuss with an Administrator, such as Ironyak1 or Seth Cooper, or even the content moderator Sammm, about the issue. There are lots of other articles to actually edit, such as articles which require images, references, listed appearances, expanding and cleaning up, for example, so maybe it would be a good idea to stick to those, rather than revising lost and pointless arguments which are profoundly disruptive. Good day. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by RedWizard98 (talkcontribs).

Well, I am sorry that you feel so negatively about my style. I am not an administrator or a content moderator, but like I said before, I do try my best to do the best possible work I can as an editor, and therefore sticking to guidelines rules. I do not mean to offend or upset anyone, but everyone needs to learn to have reasonable and courteous dialogue, which I also always do. I am on good terms with all other admins and editors, and hopefully one day, I will gain admin rights, as I love this Wiki and want to uphold it to the highest possible standard. Recently, I can tell you I have actually helped many others clean up a lot of appalling vandalism that attempted to destroy this whole encyclopaedia, in order to keep this wiki readable and reasonable, for all readers and editors, including folk like yourself. If you dislike my style of editing, you are entitled to hold such an opinion, but I also am allowed to have mine as well, and you should not resent me for expressing mine honestly. I do not mean you any harm in the slightest, and if you think so, that is an entirely misguided opinion. Do try and assume good faith with everyone, like myself, even when disagreements arise, and do keep up with the editorial work. Good night and happy editing. RedWizard98 (talk) 03:50, May 26, 2019 (UTC)

Real-world subjects

While the {{Real world subject}} template has the requirement as being a proper noun, this was not part of the category definition until you changed it. You might want to hold off on undertaking all these related changes until the community can come to a consensus on which approach to take or all the changes may need to be undone. Cheers --Ironyak1 (talk) 01:38, June 7, 2019 (UTC)

My point it that the intention of the template is unclear as hundreds of articles use it differently than you believe it should be. It's worth stopping and getting some clarification about its intended use and possible changes before taking it off hundreds of articles IMO.
As there are clear differences between some real-world subjects and their in-universe counterparts that are not proper nouns (such as in-universe boa constrictors that can wink, despite lacking eye-lids in real life) there may be other uses for the template than currently assumed.
Also, if these articles are no longer real-world subjects, but only in-universe topics, then they should all be in the past tense per policy, so please be sure to make this edit at the same time.
Overall, it's probably best to get some consensus on this matter, but if you insist on undertaking this change, please be prepared to undo them all if your interpretation turns out to be erroneous. Thanks --Ironyak1 (talk) 02:22, June 7, 2019 (UTC)

Tense discussion

Hello, having read your argument regarding tense policy, I think you have made some very interesting and valid points, in particular in relation to Rowling's own writings. Rowling does in fact refer to spells, creatures, places, institutions, all in the present tense, as if they are still in existence in her fantasy world. I am also of the opinion, that it is very illogical to use the past tense on articles other than character biographies, as referring to something in the past tense, is used to denote something as being no longer in existence; that it is either dead or annihilated. If you want to start a new discussion regarding this, I would be happy to help.RedWizard98 (talk) 01:35, June 9, 2019 (UTC)

Hag infobox template.

Hello, could you please stop removing the Hag infobox template from the Hags template. If you look at every single other infobox template, they are sorted in the category of their subject, the same goes for creatures, spells, individuals, objects etc. I didn't place them there myself, but I wouldn't tamper with them. Continuously removing it is basically edit warring and therefore counterproductive. Perhaps best speak to an admin if you disagree with said sorting, as I don't have authority over such issues. Kind regards. RedWizard98 (talk) 01:36, June 29, 2019 (UTC)

Elladora Ketteridge.

I would wish to politely ask you stop conducting indignant edit wars on my edits, some which you for some reason seem to vehemently despise. It makes no logical sense to me, as disliking another editor does not give the authority to attack their work. My work on Ketteridge argues she, or at least very strongly implies, must have been a Herbologist, or at least could be very well considered one in her own right, as she made an amazing achievement in the field, and she must have experimented or studied magical plants in her spare time. There is also no need to use capital letters when trying to vehemently argue something to exemplify your point, I find it quite bizarre, and I have not encountered anyone on any wiki, admin or not, with such an incendiary and angry attitude. Please assume good faith, be courteous and respect other's opinions; as I don't seek out your work simply to revert it, or anyone else's for that matter. Thanks. RedWizard98 (talk) 05:40, July 7, 2019 (UTC)

I am very sorry, but I have had to request this matter be examined by admin/content moderators on the adminstrator attention page. You haven't even tried to debate with me using any talk page, and your tone is far too angry and unpleasant for my taste. You did this regarding Protego Diabolica, by shouting and screaming with capital letters because me and other's disagreed with you on a very minor issue, which isn't how you articulate a point, in any sphere. I have been told by admin that my abrupt tone needs to change, something I have taken account of, and I think your tone should do too. - RedWizard98 (talk) 04:54, July 8, 2019 (UTC)

Hi, I was just checking the comment on the edit you undo and I was wondring why age has anything to do with the year they have the motorbike chase? You said that 17 is the wizarding coming of age but the change was because they needed to graduate Hogwarts to be part of the Order, so I was wondering why you think is 1977 the incident with the motorbike happens instead of 1978.

RE Structure

The feedback is appreciated thank you, but I personally prefer to structure articles with headings, as it helps to disseminate pieces information under clear, ordered sections, which makes them easier to read and gives them a more organised approach. I think doing this is better than having information sprawled all over the place very messily, so I am going to keep doing so, as I rather like ordered things. Kind regards. - User:RedWizard98

Lockhart edit warring.

Hello Oerk, you really have to stop performing edit wars upon Lockhart's article. It is isn't necessary and is simply back and forth arguing about nonsense. If you read the response from Ironyak1, you will see that is okay to say Lockhart could cast a Patronus and other simple spells (video games are acceptable sources), a stretch to call the Memory Charm the "only" spell he could cast, and the removal of even small bits of correct of information (the charm "Alarte Ascendare" is performed non-verbally in the book). Edit warring is not constructive and damages article content, and lowers the quality of debate, so please can some agreement be reached. Kind regards. RedWizard98 (talk) 13:23, August 28, 2019 (UTC)
