New Template?

Hi Professor. I see there's been a number of users over the time this wiki has existed who have been taking things waay too personally, or who have made personal attacks. I was thinking of making a template, like:
"Chill out, dude! You're taking everything way too seriously. Please calm down."
with a little red hand on the left. What do you think? --Hunnie Bunn 01:15, March 12, 2013 (UTC)

I like your idea better. So, I suppose I'd best get started. --Hunnie Bunn 01:33, March 12, 2013 (UTC)
Admittedly, it is a copy-and-paste of what you wrote on my talk page, but all the same: here it is. The code to produce it is {{Temper}} (not too sure if that's the best name for it). And sure, that shouldn't be too difficult (for the QotW).
PS: Have you ever heard this song? My best friend's uncle is the lead singer. And I find the song quite calming (nothing personal, of course) --Hunnie Bunn 01:43, March 12, 2013 (UTC)
No problem, and sorry about not changing the headers - I'd wondered what they were for. And glad you liked the song; admittedly, though, your tune is quite relaxing - additionally, it has a nice rhythm to it. --Hunnie Bunn 13:13, March 12, 2013 (UTC)

Hi, after I read about your "relaxing songs" I was curious and heard them both. I like them both. Yours is very meditative. This song I could hear for hours, days, weeks, but the other I like, too.  Harry granger   Talk   contribs 16:24, March 12, 2013 (UTC)

RE:Re: Relaxing songs

Thank you for the new songs. When I've found them AND get again access to another computer like today I will try them. My own computer loudspeakers have said good-bye, so I need another.  Harry granger   Talk   contribs 18:32, March 12, 2013 (UTC)

Hi, I've heard now "To Zanarkand" and one of "Rikku's Theme"s. They are both wonderful. I like this music, too. It is really relaxing, that's right. Thank you for the advice.

Template, Part II

Sorry, I forgot to respond the first time. Yes, I think it would be a good idea to put the song in with the template... but would the coding carry it properly? I don't trust computers and coding and such things too well. --Hunnie Bunn 18:23, March 13, 2013 (UTC)

I like it, actually. It was surprising how well the calming melody went with the professional tone of the warning message. --Hunnie Bunn 18:32, March 13, 2013 (UTC)
Hey, that's a classic melody to Template:Temper. Wonderful!

Bridge Scene

And I had another question. Have you seen the third film (I don't want to give too many spoilers)? --Hunnie Bunn 18:32, March 13, 2013 (UTC)

Just wondering, what did you think when you saw the scene on the bridge? With Lupin talking about Lily? --Hunnie Bunn 18:47, March 13, 2013 (UTC)
That's true; there was indeed quite a bit of "good stuff" in the films (especially, methinks, in the third one). I agree with most of what you said, but Rowling said Sirius was "unhinged" - he saw his best friend in pain, not a feral monster getting ready to shred everyone apart. I don't blame him for his actions, even if perhaps they weren't the most sensible.
As for the bridge scene, I'll admit the "Your mother was there for me at a time when no one else was. Not only was she a singularly gifted witch, she was also an uncommonly kind woman. She had a way of seeing the beauty in others even, and perhaps most especially, when that person couldn't see it in themselves" line(s) kind of reminded me of the "Lupin was very fond of Lily" line, and I have to wonder whether J. K. Rowling will expand on this in Lupin's biography. --Hunnie Bunn 19:06, March 13, 2013 (UTC)
Well, we did get the info on Aunt Marge, the Knight Bus and Cadogan, as well as Professor Kettleburn in the first set of chapters. But all the same, there are twenty-two chapters in the book, and there's an illustration from the fourteenth one in there which means we'll be getting at least six chapters. Leaving eight chapters after that, and a whole biography. So hopefully they'll come out soon.
Do you have an estimate as to when you think they'll be released? It's been around two months (now I stop to think about it, closer to three) so probably soon. I'm guessing the twentieth if we're lucky (because it's usually around the end of the month) and April 12 if we aren't (because it's normally on a Friday that they're released). --Hunnie Bunn 20:19, March 13, 2013 (UTC)
It wouldn't be half as aggravating if they would update the Insider to let us know what they're up to or something. Last we heard was a couple of weeks ago when they improved the comments, and I don't understand the way people will sign comments with names that have nothing to do with themselves or their friends... Oh well, it's only the 13th. Hopefully some change will come soon. --Hunnie Bunn 20:29, March 13, 2013 (UTC)

Page complaint

Hi, I don't know if BachLynn is online and reads this, so I thought I tell you. Look this here. That could be a critical situation.  Harry granger   Talk   contribs 17:11, March 14, 2013 (UTC)

Chapters eight to fifteen will be released either in eleven days or by the end of the month :) Trivia questions regarding said chapters will be posted at noon EST on the Insider daily starting tomorrow. --Hunnie Bunn 18:38, March 14, 2013 (UTC)

Glad to be of help. I'm thinking it'll be twelve days till the new chapters come out, seeing how they'll be going for ten days starting tomorrow, and then they'll be keeping the answers secret until after. Now I'm just trying to get through all that by tomorrow morning (shouldn't be too hard, it's only seven chapters). --Hunnie Bunn 19:00, March 14, 2013 (UTC)

Quidditch teams with robes mess

I believe this edit was the source of the problem, so I've reverted it and deleted the categories.

While we're on the subject, I think at some point we need to have a discussion about notability and standards for categories too. Some of the ones we have now seem ridiculously over-specific and/or redundant. Case in point, right now there are Category:Dragons, Category:Dragons (species), and Category:Individual dragons. I'm probably going to go ahead and consolidate them into just "Dragons" and delete the other two.

Hagrid's Hut

Hi Professor. Just wondered whether you could please rename Rubeus Hagrid's cabin to "Hagrid's Hut" as it is referred as such in Pottermore, the most recent canon source. Thanks. --Hunnie Bunn 20:19, March 16, 2013 (UTC)

Here we go :) --Hunnie Bunn 20:47, March 16, 2013 (UTC)
Well, I'd assumed "HAGRID'S WOODEN HOUSE" was from the line "Hagrid, you live in a wooden house". --Hunnie Bunn 21:07, March 16, 2013 (UTC)
The line was from the first book, the "HAGRID'S WOODEN HOUSE" title was for a moment from that same book (and I think from that same chapter) and therefore the two go together:) --Hunnie Bunn 22:24, March 16, 2013 (UTC)
Thank you :)--Hunnie Bunn 13:16, March 17, 2013 (UTC)

Hi Professor. It's been two months (actually, I think three) since the last Time-Turner article (the only two are Moldyshorts and Harry). I already have one for Dumbledore ready if you want, coding and everything are done. However, if you have an idea of your own I think that would be good. So I suppose come morning we'll see how things turn out, hopefully it's all good :) --Am I annoying you yet? If not, let me know when I am. 01:51, March 18, 2013 (UTC)

Hello Professor. I wondered a few things: first, whether you had this PlayStation Home. And second, whether you'd noticed the hint dropped here that the next Pottermore release will be sooner than we think ;) . Surely if it was in April they'd have said "in the coming months" instead of "the coming weeks"? --Am I annoying you yet? If not, let me know when I am. 00:52, March 19, 2013 (UTC)

Just so you know

I was fixing the notes on Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (film) to be more in line with their correct book chapter. If you look at the coverage I did with my book for the Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban page, then it can help with that task. I am only contacting you since my edit was reverted along with the edit of that bad IP User's bad edit.-Adv193 (talk) 19:32, March 19, 2013 (UTC)

Okay there is a small update and another note I am going to divide up into there proper chapters that I have to do. Also I dealt with that kind of problem before by carefully tracking the update and copy and pasted the correct stuff before posting to avoid conflicting with good faith edits just as long as it is not too complicated. -Adv193 (talk) 20:13, March 19, 2013 (UTC)

Yes, it does seem a bit sad that Harry, Hermione and Neville had to suffer because Hagrid couldn't confess. I agree that Hagrid could have given himself up, but if I remember correctly the punishment for owning a dragon egg is Azkaban. And Hagrid started crying just thinking of that horrible place.

What made me lose a lot of respect for Hagrid was when he said "An' it's your bad luck you grew up a family o' the biggest Muggles I've ever laid eyes on". Saying that Harry had bad luck living with a big family of Muggles seemed like a bit of a slap in the face - like Muggles are bad. It went against the whole theme of the last two or three books. --Am I annoying you yet? If not, let me know when I am. 19:47, March 20, 2013 (UTC)

True, he could have put in a kind word or two - but for inviting them to his cabin, he was a gamekeeper, and had quite a few duties even if they weren't mentioned. --Am I annoying you yet? If not, let me know when I am. 21:10, March 20, 2013 (UTC)

Hey Professor Tofty, while searching the web one day, I happend to stumble upon this picture - m_1311300785868.jpg (578×800) ..... hopefully you will see this. Anyway, notice how it is a scar made of objects and things from Harry's World. Well, I thought "How cool would it be if each small image would link onto a page on the HP wiki!" And that's when I began to Owl you. Anyway, if there is a way of doing this, we should get on it right away, cuse honestly, it would be AMAZING!! Let me know Colin687

The Bone Season

Hey, Professor Tofty! Have you heard of The Bone Season? It is a great new YA dystopian book series with some aspects along the same veins as Harry Potter (but with a few key differences) that you might find interesting. You can get more information about Bone Season here. The publishers are actually offering us some copies to give to avid readers active on book wikis that would be interested, and you came to mind!

It would be awesome to get a read on what you thought of the book and if we could get a great community going on wikis based on it. The Bone Season is already getting optioned for a film even though it hasn't been published yet, so you would be getting your hands on one of the first copies! We'd love for you to read it, so if you email me your address and name, we'd be happy to send the book along. Let me know :)

Thanks for following up on this, and no worries about the page protection; I've made the changes in my sandbox; here's an example of the template in action:
It includes every Wikipedia's language code, which may be overkill, but I thought it would be better this way around than continually adding more as they were needed; trim out the more obscure ones if you like! --xensyriaT 19:37, April 19, 2013 (UTC)

Marital Status

The infobox on the Trio (plus one, if you include Ginny Weasley)'s pages, states they're all married, wich is true only for the two or three pages of the Epilogue. For the rest of the series (virtually the whole of it), they're not.

May I inquire about the reasoning behind this detail? Personally, I'd change their marital status to unmarried, perhaps with a second line stating that by the epilogue it was upgraded, should this modification stand a chance to survive scrutiny. MinorStoop 10:38, April 21, 2013 (UTC)

With Hunnie Bunn's intervention, I thought it best to move the discussion to Harry Potter's talk page. Hope you don't mind. MinorStoop 13:19, April 21, 2013 (UTC)

Hi Professor. I can't remember if I'd already asked for help, but since it seems I haven't... earlier this month or late last month I asked Grunny for help and there's been no answer, and Nick O'Demus doesn't know what's up with it either so I figured I'd ask you. The infoboxes on the Potter Dictionary (this one, actually) have been expanding to fit the writing within them, so that a certain amount of text put in could make it spread across the whole page. I wondered if you knew a solution? Thanks :) --Hunnie Bunn (talk) 00:12, April 27, 2013 (UTC)

I also wondered if you wanted admin/bureaucrat rights on the Potter Dictionary Wiki, they're available too... Hi professor. Just thought I'd let you know, this IP has repeatedly vandalised pages and been warned about it, with no change whatsoever to their behaviour. --Hunnie Bunn (talk) 21:19, May 10, 2013 (UTC)

Rubeus Hagrid

This IP to whom you sent a warning to has once again vandalised Hagrid's page. At this point I would suggest an additional warning or a block. I trust you can make a good decision. -Adv193 (talk) 05:26, May 15, 2013 (UTC)

Hey Professor... Just figured I'd let you know, there are no periods in the British/Canadian editions of the books, no dots. Therefore, "Mrs Norris" is correct as opposed to "Mrs. Norris", or so it should be as we use British spelling/grammar. --Hunnie Bunn (talk) 00:06, May 16, 2013 (UTC)

Danniesen, Part II

So... Danniesen has asked for another chance and once again I figured I'd ask your opinion. Personally, I think a... whatever chance this is on, I think a final opportunity should be given for him. Let him back, one mistake and he's off for good, but maybe over time he would help out, build back lost credit over a time period of months or maybe years. Yes, he has been given literally a hundred or so warnings, and yes it is supposed to be permanent, but I still think one last shot couldn't hurt too bad. --Hunnie Bunn (talk) 19:16, May 18, 2013 (UTC)

I just figured I'd ask your opinion before I started a forum on it, because if you were opposed to it chances were the others would be as well. The forum, just in case, is here. --Hunnie Bunn (talk) 19:55, May 18, 2013 (UTC)

I don't honestly see how it hurts anything, but I understand that if it is policy, then yes. And I would have appreciated it if someone would've told me that it needed deleting, because I didn't want to lose everything I had already done. My point of doing this however is to help my and possibly others understanding of what is book and what is film or game. I do respect that it is Policy, so I won't argue, but I think letting me know would have been a nice thing to do, cause no one wants there work tarnished, know what I mean? Say, Professor,

there is a disagreement between Danniesen and me about the Known members section of this page. I think that if it has to be about "known members", then only Lucius Malfoy belongs there. Danniesen insists that both Malfoy's substitute and the other eleven members have a place in it, yet no name, history or other data for them are given, not in the books, not in the movies, I wouldn't know about the games.

Any suggestion on how to get out of this impasse? Thanks! MinorStoop 12:23, June 18, 2013 (UTC)

locking charm

In the second video game adaption of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows during the break-in of Gringotts Wizarding Bank the doors are locked and needs the Unlocking Charm to open. When Harry Potter, Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger reach the first of the doors Harry says "It appears to be some sort of locking charm". Should a new article be created or should we leave it? --DCLM (talk) 15:46, June 21, 2013 (UTC)

Then I'll make it say in a BTS-section. :) --DCLM (talk) 16:03, June 21, 2013 (UTC)

Recent trend

Given the spate of pointless vandalism directed at the Harry Potter page, shouldn't it get protected status, to preclude editing by unidentifed and new users? {{SUBST:User:Jiskran/Signature}} 19:32, June 22, 2013 (UTC)

Questions of Permission/capability

Hey Tofty! It's Colin, we've spoken on a few occasions. Anyway, I was wondering whether or not it would be ok (just to make sure that I don't do anything that might make this wiki mad) for myself to create another wiki called "Hogwarts Wiki"? ... In my opinion, it would in many ways support this wiki (Harry Potter Wiki) because the Hogwarts Wiki would have a soul base of only Hogwarts interior, exterior, and things similar to that, but for when characters or anything unrelated to Hogwarts/Hogsmeade would pop up, I would have links to this page.

Example: Let's say that I created the Gryffindor Common Room page. Somewhere in the page, I would show a list of students that belonged to Gryffindor House. In that list, I would link those characters to this wiki.

I'm asking for permission from the Harry Potter Wiki administration because if I did do this, I wouldn't want to make anyone mad (not to mention Wikia), and also, I thought it could help possibly promote both of our wiki's IF I were to do so? Please get back to me ... I'll fully understand if you say no, but, please please please, get back to me :) Colin687

Sorry about that, I was hoping they would work. They were never very good quality anyways, definitely not worth putting onto the wiki, so I don't think I'll be doing any more of them :) --Hunnie Bunn (talk) 22:31, July 5, 2013 (UTC)

PS: I wondered also if you could please move Potions master to "Potions Master" per talk page and please delete Expellimellius as it has, for a while, had the deletion tag? Thanks :) --Hunnie Bunn (talk) 22:35, July 5, 2013 (UTC)
Thank you. --Hunnie Bunn (talk) 22:54, July 5, 2013 (UTC)

Ok, I'll start it up, create a page, and show you what I mean.. I'll get back to you when I've created it and show you through a link. ... Thanks for understanding :) Colin687

Apologies for the spam, in the begining when I had previously posted my page to your listing I had been informed that a member of a rival site was deleting it. (So i had been told and found they had deleted it twice before your team jumped in.) I would like to be able to list my site, today one of my members in hopes of being helpful made a listing you marked as spam and I am wondering why and if i could please list my site. ----BloodOfTheScribe

Sorry! I'm an airhead its regarding this complaint

Re: Site

My concern is that whenever I try to put a listing for my site it gets deleted and marked as spam but I never touched any other entries i've only been here to list harry potter sites, I was unaware I had qualms with Live the Magic. The IP you have noted doesn't match mine it matches my user Emily who made edits for me before.. Death Before Dishonor 00:17, July 7, 2013 (UTC)BloodOfTheScribe

Oh - I apologize, I couldn't see any of these warnings. I simply assumed my edits weren't working or were resetting, not that they were being undone because they weren't allowed. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Roger349 (talkcontribs).

In a past discussion on linking to other wikis related to J. K. Rowling, you said to make a logo for each wiki which could be added at the bottom of the Main Page. I wondered if you could please teach me how to do so. And also if you could please show me how to add the Harry Potter Wiki logo onto the main pages of the other wikis. Thanks lots for all your help :) --Hunnie Bunn (talk) 14:23, July 16, 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Sorry to keep bothering you, but I wondered if you knew how to remove the "Added by [Username]" thing on the bottom of pictures? Thanks. --Hunnie Bunn (talk) 17:02, July 18, 2013 (UTC)

ProffesorTofty, my apologies for all the dilemma I caused with the page about Cornelius Fudges Wand. I am a new user in the wiki. I recently uploaded a new page, expecting to achieve all the requirements.SeverusSnape1998 (talk) 00:50, July 20, 2013 (UTC)

User page policy?

The user Grace01121922 yesterday blanked her(?) user page. I reverted this with an edit summary warning that removing warnings from user pages is forbidden, but she did it again this morning, so I've reverted again and added a warning of my own, using new template {{Blank}} (template page here).

In the above, I wanted to link the word "policy" to where it actually says that removing warnings is disallowed, but I've had a look through the relevant-seeming pages and can't find it. Do you know where this is stated? — RobertATfm (talk) 10:38, July 20, 2013 (UTC)

Hi Professor Tofty! (this sounds really bad, and I probably should know this, but is your name inspired by a Harry Potter character?)

Thanks for the kind welcome! I was just thinking, there's honestly nothing for me to contribute to the Harry Potter Wiki as it pretty much has everything anyone needs to know!

Thanks again!

RE: Username

Ahhhh, I get it! I knew I recognised that name from somewhere!

I like your greeting too - Wotcher! Though I was thinking the other day, what does that mean as a greeting?

FireworksandChimpanzees (talk) 21:09, July 23, 2013 (UTC)

RE: Username:

"Wotcher" is a British term that is a shortened form of "What cheer!" Though, truth be told, I can't claim credit for the use of it in that message-- in fact, the greeting that you received was actually automated. Still, I am pleased to welcome you to the Harry Potter Wiki and I do hope you'll enjoy your time here. ProfessorTofty (talk) 22:01, July 23, 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, I figured it was automated after I saw loads of people with that greeting on their talk pages.

And "What cheer," huh, who'd have thought - thnaks for telling me, it was really annoyin not knowing!

FireworksandChimpanzees :)

Harry Potter Emoticons

Greetings Professor Tofty, perhaps you are aware that the Harry Potter Wiki has an obvious lack of Harry Potter Emoticons for wiki use and chat use alike. If I may, may I ask for a temporary Adminship soley to add Emoticons for the Harry Potter theme? I'd add the main characters, background characters, teachers, animals/beasts, locations, and modes of transportastion. If I can find them, spells as well. I'd appreciate it very much if you considered my offer. Thank you Professor Tofty.

Hello Professor Tofty,

I have a question on a edit of yours. You resently changed Ted Lupin to Edward Lupin. I may be mistaken but I believe it is Ted, because in the books it says Ted Lupin is named after his mother's father, Ted Tonks, not Edward. I may have gotten this wrong, so please correct me if I am. Thank you for your help, I hope this will put a stop to my confusion. Thanks again.

Hey :) I just have a question about the wiki. Do you think it is possible to install an Auto-refrsh option on the Wiki Activity? I think it could be really useful for a lot of users :) Lady Junky 14:09, August 3, 2013 (UTC)

Oh! Don't worry ^^ I know what we must do :) I know how install the Auto-Refresh ^^ I just asked if you're okn and if you are, I will explain what you must do ^^ It is really easy ^^ Lady Junky 00:25, August 4, 2013 (UTC)
I will use one of my wiki as example ^^ First, you must create this page: [1] . Exactly the same (same title, and you must copy the same contents^^ You can copy my page in Source view). Then, you publish the page and you can protect it from no-sysop users, if you want ^^ Then, you must go on MediaWiki:Common.js and put this code on the page:

/* Auto-refresh */ AjaxRCRefreshText = 'Auto-refresh'; AjaxRCRefreshHoverText = 'Automatically refresh this page'; ajaxPages = ["Special:RecentChanges","Special:WikiActivity"]; importScriptPage('AjaxRC/code.js', 'dev');

Then you publish and it will be good :) If you have a question :P Lady Junky 00:54, August 4, 2013 (UTC)

It works! :D Thank you :D It will be really useful Lady Junky 01:29, August 4, 2013 (UTC)

What exactly is the point of this page: AjaxRC/code.js? --DCLM (talk) 08:11, August 4, 2013 (UTC)
