If an article already has a subcategory, we do not add the overlapping category (ie if it has Beaters, we don't add Quidditch players). --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 02:40, July 27, 2010 (UTC)

Please you the appropriate linking code. Albus Dumbledore will create a link within the wiki. --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 02:10, August 3, 2010(UTC)

Death Eaters and Wizards/witches are always linked to the plural form and then formatted. Death Eater or witch --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 02:20, August 3, 2010 (UTC)

hi! i always say hi 2 peepl on wiki. its a bad hbit!

Thanks for all your edits to the new category I made, Unidentified Spells. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the help with the quote on the Dumbledore's Army parchment jinx page. I was trying to add "cute" to "a couple of freckles" because what Hermionie actually said was, "a couple of cute freckles," but it turned into all-out war with the quote trying to get it to look right. So...

I'm not too knowledgeable about coding, as you may have guessed. :}

Thanks again! And maybe you could change the quote? Since I can't?

I left the above message. I forgot to sign it. RolandaSmithson 17:50, September 5, 2010 (UTC)

Thank you! *beams* RolandaSmithson 18:01, September 5, 2010 (UTC)

Image uploads

Thank you for contributing image uploads to the Harry Potter Wiki. However, your recent upload was in breach of our image policy, and has since been corrected. In future, please be sure to fill out the information template that is provided on the upload page, in particular citing the source from which the image comes from, and adding categories. This is to help keep images organised and catalogued, and to provide clear sourcing for all uploads. Please be aware that images missing this information may be subject to deletion, and, in certain cases, uploading images after being asked to provide the correct information may lead to a block for the uploader. If you have any doubts or questions regarding this, please contact one of the administrators. Thank you for your cooperation.--Cavalier OneGryffindorcrest(Wizarding Wireless Network) 09:50, October 18, 2010 (UTC)

Order of Merlin

Merlin Bronze Order of Merlin (Third Class)
The Order of Merlin is awarded to you by Nick O'Demus for having over one-thousand edits on the Harry Potter Wiki.

Hey, personally I think a page for list of potion ingredients would be ok, not sure about plants though, I think it would be ok but you can always one of the admin's to see what they think. --BachLynnGryffindorcrest(Accio!) 19:09, December 11, 2010 (UTC)

I'm not so keen on having lists on either, as no information would be added to the wiki (with the categories and all). --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 20:11, December 11, 2010 (UTC)

Might I give you a small piece of advice, when you find some obvious case for deletion from a new user, please explain on their talk pages why you marked their articles for deletion. I saw the forum in which an Unreg was a little turned off by your quick marking of his articles for deletion. --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 02:24, December 31, 2010 (UTC)

As far as I know if an article is in a sub-category, it does not need to be in the main category, there are occasionally exceptions to this rule (I've been working on filtering through actors, placing anyone who only did a voice in one of the video games into the Voice actor category, but some people did both, such as Rupert, Emma, etc, so they actually get both categories, even though Voice-actor is a sub-category of actor). Personally I feel that if for instance "Arts classroom" is already in the sub category, well, what is the point of having sub categories if we aren't going to use them. I know awhile back there was a whole thing with spells being in both the spells category and either charms or hex etc, and with those it was definitely decided that it a spell was already in charms or hex etc etc it didn't need to be in spells also. --BachLynnGryffindorcrest(Accio!) 21:37, January 3, 2011 (UTC)

Definitely! If you run into any gray areas, or questions, I'll be online till probably around 9pmish, if you have any questions or need help or anything! Cheers! :-) --BachLynnGryffindorcrest(Accio!) 21:44, January 3, 2011 (UTC)

As far as I know, I've heard that the tale itself was only mentioned in passing in the Real Tales as being Aberforth's favourite story, but as to all the details, I'm pretty sure all of that is fanon, the story is not told in full in the real-beedle tales, so the only way there is a full version of the tale is someone made it up. --BachLynnGryffindorcrest(Accio!) 20:28, January 7, 2011 (UTC)

I'm for deleting them, but I don't have that ability, only admin's or bureaucrats can delete articles, I did however return the main article on the story back to its original "un-fannoned" state, and have given the user a fanon warning. --BachLynnGryffindorcrest(Accio!) 21:01, January 7, 2011 (UTC)

Hi. Just so you know, that little tag on the beginning of every article on a book (the one that goes like {{Title|PAGENAME) is supposed to be there, in order to the article's name to appear italicised. Therefore, I'm adding it back to the articles you removed it from. Thanks. --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 22:45, January 8, 2011 (UTC)

It's ok. We know you didn't mean to harm the wiki's quality; it's just it has been conventioned that book titles and spell incantations are to be in italics.

Articles for other letters could be created. I guess there are only articles on those because they are a few of the most relevant (and lenghty? lol) letters mentioned in the books. --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 00:05, January 9, 2011 (UTC)

If you want, I can help you with those. Some letters I can remember from the top of my mind:
 • Harry Potter's Hogwarts acceptance letters (Philosopher's Stone)
 • Petunia Evans's letter to Dumbledore (Deathly Hallows)
 • Molly Weasley's letter to the Dursleys (Goblet of Fire)
 • Molly Weasley's Howler to Ronald Weasley (Chamber of Secrets)
 • Albus Dumbledore's letter to the Dursleys (Chamber of Secrets - the one on the Whomping Willow incident)
 • Albus Dumbledore's letter to the Weasleys (Chamber of Secrets - the one on the Whomping Willow incident)
 • Mafalda Hopkirk's letter to Harry Potter (Chamber of Secrets)
 • Mafalda Hopkirk's letter to Harry Potter (Order of the Phoenix)
 • Albus Dumbledore's letter to Gellert Grindelwald (Deathly Hallows)
 • Georgina Smyth's letter to Tilden Toots

Please make sure to add the Conjecture tag to the top of these articles. - Nick O'Demus 01:51, January 9, 2011 (UTC)
How about "Daily Prophet readers' hate mail to Hermione Granger", or something like that? --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 03:26, January 9, 2011 (UTC)

I'm not sure, are you using the new wiki look or monobook? I use monobook and it looks the same, but I know earlier I couldn't edit for a couple of hours because it said wiki was down. --BachLynnGryffindorcrest(Accio!) 22:15, January 11, 2011 (UTC)

It was Monaco that wikia did away with, monobook is the only other option that they left available, try changing it, see if you like it, I'm not sure what's going on with the new wiki look as I don't use it, but I think a couple of the admin's use the new look. --BachLynnGryffindorcrest(Accio!) 22:22, January 11, 2011 (UTC)

Birth years

Hey, I was just curious, how are you getting some of the birth years, like for Eddie Carmichael, we know he was sorted in 1990, but he could have been born in 1978, Hermione was sorted in 1991, but she was born in 1979 not 1980. --BachLynnGryffindorcrest(Accio!) 22:33, January 25, 2011 (UTC)

computer virus?

Hey, I noticed you were having computer problems..... Is there anything I can help with? Obviously I can't fix it in person, but I'm pretty good with computer's, if you tell me exactly what it's doing I might be able to walk you through it. --BachLynnGryffindorcrest(Accio!) 19:09, February 6, 2011 (UTC)

Ouch, I know exactly what happened, same thing happened to my sister-in-law's computer. Now you mentioned you didn't have any sort of antivirus right? So what popped up asking you to scan, was actually what hurt your computer, it's all a scheme to try and get you to buy their stuff. I tried everything I could to fix my sister-in-law's, in the end I had to run a system restore back to factory settings. What operating system are you running? Do you still have the disks for it? Also do you keep back ups of important information? If there's nothing on your computer that you're worried about losing or if anything important you had backed up on disks, I would go ahead and do a system restore. If there is stuff on the computer that you don't have backed up and you want to try and save then you're going to have to wait till you can afford to take it to someone, sometimes they can save the data, sometimes they can't. Some suggestions after it's fixed. NEVER click on a pop up that is asking you to scan your computer for viruses. Also, AVG antivirus, is a fairly decent free antivirus you can download online, also Windows Defender is a good spam protector, also free. If you can save up the money McAfee (which is WAYYY better then Norton, at least as far as I think) is fairly cheap, my sis-in-law got hers for only 20$. If I lived by you I'd fix it for you for free, but as I highly doubt you live in Kentucky, all I can do is give advice :-) --BachLynnGryffindorcrest(Accio!) 21:12, February 6, 2011 (UTC)

My husband bought my new laptop off ebay, I wanted to do a system restore on it a few months ago, and realised I couldn't because the Operating System that it's currently running (Windows 7) is not the original system that came with the computer (Windows Vista), and it didn't come with back up discs. If you don't have back up discs and your laptop is running an older OS then Vista you probably have the same problem and wouldn't be able to do a system restore anyways. There is another option of restoring to a previous point. For instance you can take your computer back a few weeks to time when you know it worked right, but that all depends on what type of virus it's infected with. Have you tried starting it in safe mode? --BachLynnGryffindorcrest(Accio!) 21:31, February 8, 2011 (UTC)

Voting issues

Voting is in progress for new infobox pics for Gellert Grindelwald and Fleur Delacour. There's only a couple days left before they both close, so be sure to weigh in for your favorite.

We're also WAY behind on some of our featured content, especially the QOTW's and DYK's, so if you've got a couple of minutes, drop in and voice your opinions on any you like or dislike, and maybe we can get some of the backlog cleared out.

Thanks. - Nick O'Demus 09:08, April 25, 2011 (UTC)
