DADA Storeroom and Unidentified Teachers

Hi Seth! I have looked at your Defence Against Dark Art's Store Room article, and I have noticed you have kept the article's name with the grammar mistake. However, I think this article should be renamed Defence Against the Dark Arts Storeroom. I know it is misspelled in the game, but if you see the translation in other languages, you can see that it has been corrected and was just a mistake.

Besides that, I would like to ask your opinion [about my project on merging unidentified characters. I'm trying to do it with Unidentified Hogwarts employees, and at the moment I've merged the PS teachers. I will continue with the others, but I'd like to know your opinion before it, as I may be doing pointless work. Please do not hesitate to make suggestions or to make any neccesary changes. Thanks, --RavenclawcrestThe Evening Prophet Ravenclawcrest (Owl Post) 12:23, May 29, 2011 (UTC)

PS: It's an honour for me to write in your new talk page :D, but I warn you that an unidentified vandal ( has left me an unsigned message. It was when he tried to put the noncanon template on the Entrance Courtyard, whereas I reverted it... Yes, he is the one who you have recently been writing to (regarding the Bellatrix, Viaduct, Courtyard... articles).

I know it is the only English name, but are translations canon? For example, if we have a cover of a French official Harry Potter book, can the illustration be used as an infobox image? If so, we can assume that looking at the other versions, the Art's is just a mistake. We should write the articles in an apropriate style, grammaticaly correct. --RavenclawcrestThe Evening Prophet Ravenclawcrest (Owl Post) 22:31, May 29, 2011 (UTC)

Greetings, Seth

I have just found that a person with the IP of "" has been vandalising Buckbeak though thankfully I have just reverted the edit. For this reason, I think you ought to do something about it and at least give him a temporary ban of one week or something because he can't have expected to vandalize like that and not get punished for it and if we let him go, he might go even further and vandalize more. You can even check the list of edits made to the article of Buckbeak (Right now it is second from latest edit). Once again the IP is Hope you do what's better for everyone.

My art has been posted without my permission.

User Caliméro posted my recreation of the Chudley Cannons book cover. Please remove it. (Or better yet, credit me / my Web site: The picture was taken from a members-only section of the RPF (

I haven't edited anything on this Wiki yet (apart from one article, which was a very minor edit) because I'm worried I'm going to get loads of messages on my talk page telling me I'm editing things wrong because I haven't included references in my edits.

Do I have to unclude references in every bit of new information I add in to an article? Because some of it I may have learned from the books after re-reading them several times and finding pieces of information I hadn't noticed before (which is what I often tend to do), and I don't really want to have to spend hours online trying to find an internet source to use as a reference from info that I have found in the books.

Please help. What am I supposed to do?

It's kind of hot, actually. 17:38, June 1, 2011 (UTC)

Resurrection Stone

Hello. You seem to be the only active admin. So...I suggest we put the Resurrection Stone page and Marvolo Gaunt's Ring page together because that are pretty much the some thing. Weirdo Guy (talk) 05:55, June 12, 2011 (UTC)

hi seth

i did added some videos and pictures to the page Harry Potter Puppet Pals last night. but when i came on today and checked the page it was gone do you now anything about this group of missing pictures and videos.

Yes. But it is a bit odd to make a separate page for one object. You can just put the Heading 2 and put what information needs to be known. You don't need to make a different page. Remember: a page can be as long as you want it to be. Weirdo Guy (talk) 17:19, June 12, 2011 (UTC)

I have always wondered whether or not wizards and witches could augment or even enhance their physical attributes using magic, and I'll admit, I am a mild fan, though in spite of that, I understand Harry Potter quite well, and I know most, key word 'most', everything about it, and I was wondering do you happen to know if they could accomplish such a feat with magic... Template preloads

Hey Seth. I have written a temporary script that you can use if you feel it would be useful to have the preloads working in the new editor for now. It adds the dropdown underneath the Preview and Publish buttons and will work as it did in the old editor. I'll add the custom template preload later. To use this add importScript( 'User:Grunny/infoboxpreloads-neweditor.js‎' ); to your wikia.js. Let me know if you have any issues with it. :) Cheers, Grunny (talk) 14:36, June 16, 2011 (UTC)

Blog policy

Hey Seth. I try and do a sweep every couple of weeks, but it has exploded of late. Basically, I generally open Category:Blog posts and go through each one in turn. Some I leave if they are useful, like linking to the fan fiction wiki, or the rpg wiki since they serve as useful redirects. I also leave the staff ones (by Bchwood, Kacieh, Babyjabba, Kate.Moon and a few others since they are used for promotional purposes on Facebook and Twitter). Generally, any that state "OMG Hary Potter rulez <3" (that was painful to type) or the like get culled, citing the blog policy in the delete. If you want to go ahead and cull them, be my guest, or I can get to it in about an hour or so. HI Seth thanks for the fast response!!

Well I have gotten to know a few of the guys who play the Conductor and they have told me that per Warner Bro guide lines they are not to say what House they are in so Conductor is Not a hufflepuff!! he is also time less there is to be No lateral content from what is in the Books so He would not have met Sirius Black while at Hogwarts..

he also did not start with the Train in 1978 as there is to be no time line with the Conductor... this Info is small and not that big of a deal but it drives the guys nuts as they went through some major training for the role of just a few things I wanted to help correct..

Thanks again

Spell types

Ok, so: recently I've been engaged in a discussion with Nick O'Demus about the status of some of the pages at this wiki and he recommended that if I disagree on any of them I state my case to either you or Cavalier One. So this is me, stating my case.

The main thing is the classification of spells in the Harry Potter universe; there are a number of terms relating to spell types and when I first arrived at the classification section on the spell page a list of the the different spell types is all I saw, no description or anything. Hence, whilst expanding it I gathered all the spells of the Dark Arts like curse & hex into one group (under the heading Dark Spells) and all the spells with "counter" is the name into another called counter-spells, hence that 4 type system of classification was born. It was simply for clarity. "Dark spells" was a term already in use on this wiki (as a section in the Dark Arts page), hence its use as opposed to a completely different title (I didn't use Dark Arts/Magic because those terms refers to other things than just spells). However, Nick disagrees with this classification because he believes it is "original research" and has hence deleted the Dark Spells page and changed the classification section of spells so that it merely lists the terms again, which is less helpful considering the actual classification expanded on the definitions of the various types.

Nonetheless, whilst I see where he's coming from I think this an erroneous action to take and I see no problem with grouping the dark spells under that title. Yes, I know its not an actual canon title, but it is close (at least, the use of the adjective dark to describe spells of that nature is canonical, which is what jinxes and the like are - spells that are dark) and it collates all the information on Dark spells into one, neat area from which one can follow the appropriate links to the sub-types (hex, curse etc.). Basically, I think its cleaner that way and I don't see why it shouldn't be used, as long as it is made clear that the title isn't canon. It also discusses the differences between the dark spells, which is important IMHO.

The counter-spells page also should exist for this reason as well as the added fact that it contains the discussion on the definition (or lack thereof) of a counter-spell (e.g. -charm, -curse, untransfiguration etc.) which is important information, which would otherwise have to be needlessly repeated on every one of its sub-types' pages.

Thanks for taking the time to consider my case and I hope to hear back from you soon Green Zubat 18:16, July 18, 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, but I never wanted to merge the countersub-types & dark spell sub-types into one page (e.g. counter-spels and dark spells), I just wanted to keep them both. Also, I recognize that this grouping has never existed prior but is that really problem, as long as its made clear that its a fan-made grouping? After all, they are spells associated with dark magic (and therefore dark spells...). Btw, Nick's complaint was never about the counter-spell page, I just added it because it seemed pertinent to the discussion (since it was created under the same circumstances as Dark Spells).
Also, if we really can't keep the dark spells grouping then should the classification on the spell page be changed to just Transfiguration|charms|jinx|hex|curse|counter-spell then?Green Zubat 19:13, July 18, 2011 (UTC)
I wasn't suggesting we remove the sub-types, I was suggesting the classification section be reformatted so that it loks like it did before, i.e. a table listing the names of all known spell types, with a brief description of each and some examples. Sub-types would be listed in the "brief descriptions bit". This is more informative than what we have now. Green Zubat 19:35, July 18, 2011 (UTC)
basically, what we have now but dressed up a bit. Green Zubat 19:37, July 18, 2011 (UTC)

Hey! Another incorrect page for you. See This spell (incantation unknown) is a curse that make the person who is hit burst into small pieces. I think this is a fanon page, but I'm not sure. Sebolto 18:39, July 18, 2011 (UTC)

I also saw it on Monday, though to be honest, I wish I hadn't. Needless to say I wasn't impressed. Jayden Matthews 15:14, July 21, 2011 (UTC)
Oh, god, don't get me started. I could go on for hours. I think the most dissapointing bit for me was "King's Cross". It was so underwhelming. Nothing was explained properly, the significance of the Deathly Hallows was never revealed, Dumbledore's backstory was cut... again. I wasn't expecting a hardcore gay sex scene or anything, but they could have a least underlined the relationship and where it went wrong. When Harry was calling after Dumbledore, and he just ignores him and walks off I was like "ok that's it for me". And what the hell was Neville's speach all about. It sounded like he was doing a shoutout over the radio. And Voldemort hugging Draco! What where they thinking? Jayden Matthews 15:46, July 21, 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, that was cool. That and the Gringotts break-in was probably the only bit I really liked. Apart from some really cheesy dialogue. Voldemort getting his feet all bloody was good. Oh, and the way they found the Horcruxes was a pure cop-out. Why didn't Harry know Nagini was a Horcrux in Part 1 if he can "sense them". And why didn't Voldemort feel the locket being destroyed. The epilogue was tripe, as well. Jayden Matthews 16:29, July 21, 2011 (UTC)

Haha...go Ravenclaw!!!

Automatically refresh - Button

Hi, Seth! What's wrong with that button "Automatically refresh"? It seems not to function anymore - either in the old nor in the new look. Do you know what happened? Harry granger 19:14, July 21, 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for your answer. Let's hope it will do after a while or someone who knows can fix it.

But perhaps you can help me with another question. My talk page gets long and longer. I know there is the possibility of Archives. Can you tell me what I have to do to archive my talk page? Many thanks in advance! Harry granger 20:09, July 21, 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the answer. I have a question to Number 3. How can I add a link to the new Archive at the top of my talk page? Harry granger 20:21, July 21, 2011 (UTC)

Sorry for interrupting again. But I recognized I don't know how to move. Do I need the "Rename function" or what is to do? Harry granger 20:34, July 21, 2011 (UTC)

I only wanted to say: I just managed it. Thanks again for your help. Harry granger 21:26, July 21, 2011 (UTC)

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part 2

I just confirmed that while the template states that it is semi-protected, there is no notification confirming this when I go to edit page. This is why IPs have been able to edit this page recently. Just want to let you know of this. -Adv193 20:44, July 21, 2011 (UTC)

Hi Seth Cooper! I'm new around here (I've been a member of the English Wikipedia for a few years, and decided to branch out) so I figured I should ask around for advice. I've been tuning up the Hepzibah Smith article over the past few days and had a question. Other articles seem to have a Magical abilities and skills section, but I couldn't find any minor character articles of say, the featured article quality to use as a guide. Since Smith's abilities are never mentioned, should I just avoid speculation and leave out such a section? Also, do you have any ideas as to how I could expand the article? ceranthor 02:27, July 22, 2011 (UTC)

Cool, thanks. Is there anything else I should add, or is it possible for me to nominate it at FAN? ceranthor 16:34, July 22, 2011 (UTC)

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 - Molly Weasley vs. Bellatrix Lestrange

Hi Seth,

I just wanted a quick word with you.

Should we make an article of the duel between Molly Weasley and Bellatrix Lestrange? I know in the book it is not very explicit, but it seems to me that in the movie, their duel is completely different.

Also, after Molly successful hits Bella with the Killing Curse, what spell does she use? There are three: the Killing Curse, then the spell that I am talking about (that makes them look like they're falling even though she's dead), and then Molly's own curse. Could you please write back on my talk page? Thanks, Dement0r 15:06, July 23, 2011 (UTC)

So, I recognise that I may be wrong here, but I'd like to give it a go all the same.

On some of the pages (like Horcrux) I've added information from interviews with JK and the like (such as the definition of a Horcrux). I placed them as quotes at the top of the age, where I felt they would be most helpful. However, it has come to my attention that some users are against this as articles need to be written from an "In-universe" perspective, according to the HPW policy guide.

Nevertheless, does apply to these instances, where information is just being added as quotes before the article proper starts? Because I really think these quotes would be more appropriate at the top, where people can see them at the top of the page. That way when people wonder what a charm is for example they can just click the link and see at the top. I just think its more helpful, thoughts? Green Zubat 18:40, July 23, 2011 (UTC)

So - to confirm - the best solution is to paraphrase the info in the text & include a reference?Green Zubat 18:57, July 23, 2011 (UTC)

Dear Seth Cooper,

Could you help me add the Ravenclaw house points player box, Hogwarts supporter and the This user supports the ministry of magic box onto my page? And I would really like to apply to be a professor or head girl.

I know everything about harry potter but everything has been mentioned already..would you consider setting me a quiz to let me prove it?

James Potter & The Hall of Elders Crossing

So, you probably already know this, but I just needed to check. After HPDH was released this dude started off his own stories about James Sirius Potter, starting with James Potter and the Hall of Elders Crossing and its gotten pretty big - JK herself has even recognised & endorsed it (even though it is not connected to her directly and hence is not "canon"). I know it is - for all intents and purposes- fanfiction, but like I said the stories are very popular, basing themselves around the HP universe & following it very closely (and like I said, JK gave them her blessing, if not actually writing them) so I was wondering if this was worthy of mentioning on the wiki, like in its own article.

OK, how's this? I included in the ntroduction that it was non-canonical and added the template you suggested.Green Zubat 00:03, July 26, 2011 (UTC)

Hi Seth. Would you mind having a word with Dannisen? I've spoken to him a couple of times about his behaviour, but he's clearly not listening. He's just created two new articles which need deleting. Part-troll Snatcher and Part-troll Snatcher's wand. Both these articles already exist, and he knew it, as he copied and pasted the content from the originals. He's getting a bit tiresome to say the least. Thanks. Jayden Matthews 12:24, July 26, 2011 (UTC)

To Seth,

What does it take to become a Ravenclaw Prefect? Could you look at my edit on the Muggle-Born Registration Commission in the Known Victims Section concerning Hermione? I wouldn't ask but I need a second opinion...

Speedy Deletion Candidates

Hey Seth, I'm not sure how the system works on this wiki, and as such I'm not sure if you too have a category for speedy deletion articles, so just in case you don't I'd like to nominate Molly Weasley's spell|this article for deletion, as it's grammatically incorrect and rather irrelevant as the spell in question is most likely just a Killing Curse. Thanks, — Flaysian (talk) 20:38, July 26, 2011 (UTC).

My Apologies For My Mistake on the Travers Page

I can't remember what specifically I put on the Travers page, but I just barely read the email concering your removing of the information on it, as far as I can remember, regarding Jon Campling playing Travers. Anyway, a while ago someone posted on this page that Jon Campling would portray Travers, and while reading an interview with Jon Campling (who apparently plays Travers), he says that he is killed. Remembering that someone said that Campling would play Travers, I hurried to the Harry Potter wiki to update it. But since that was removed and placed in some "Unidentified Death Eater" page, mine was apparently still there, and later taken down by you. I wish to apologise, because someone did post on Travers's page saying Jon Campling would play him, and since Campling said he plays a dead person, I wanted to update it. I just wanted to explain why I had posted that in the first place, because I do not, to the best of my abilities, post false information on pages. Again, sorry. Cushioning Charm

There is no evidence that Aresto Momentum and the Cushioning Charm are the same thing, in fact canon goes against this idea. Aresto causes objects to suddenly lose all momentum (as seen in DH & PoA, the films). When Hermione is stated to have used the Cushioning Charm in the book, this doesn't happen. Instead it just cushions their fall, allowing them to slowly glide downwards. There's no evidence that they're the same. Green Zubat 22:46, July 30, 2011 (UTC)

Hello Seth Cooper,

My name is Adam Blumenfeld and I am Wikia's Manager of Entertainment. Thank you for keeping such a vigilant watch over the HP article pages! While I appreciate you making edits, I just wanted to kindly ask that you not remove the videos we are posting to the HP wiki. We have worked hard to secure this content from several different sites and will be uploading relevant videos here over the next few days. This is temporary, as we are building our own great Wikia-branded video player that will look fantastic on the HP wiki. But for now, we want the community to be able to view videos they have been asking us for on a near-daily basis. I've run this by the HP admins, but if you have any questions or concerns, please give me a shout on my Talk Page. A. Bloom 18:09, August 2, 2011 (UTC)

Potter videos

Hi Seth,

In keeping with your guidelines, I have begun uploading videos to pages that fit correctly within the Potter universe. Here is an example. This video relates to Lord Voldemort and takes a scene directly related to the film & Book 7. It's not an interview clip and adds a nice extra dimension to the article page. Please let me know if this is to your liking and I'll continue working on the video uploads from our office. A. Bloom 17:53, August 3, 2011 (UTC)

-- Adam

Hi Seth,

Last e-mail for today (I promise). Since you are one of the more active editors on this wiki, I wanted to run a quick proposal by you. Our staff is going to upload more of the Potter videos, but what if we gave you control over where the content is placed? Though I am an avid fan of the books and films, you know the intricacies of the Potter wiki universe better than I, so our team would be happy to give you the links to all our HP content that we currently have the rights to. This way, you could see the full video list and decide where the clips should reside. Knowing where you place clips and what content you feel is best suited to the wiki would be extremely valuable to our Content team, especially before we launch the Wikia-branded video player. If you want to give this a shot, let me know at your convenience. If not, no worries at all. We can load the material ourselves. :-) A. Bloom 20:15, August 3, 2011 (UTC)

Thanks again,

UPDATE: Seth -- please shoot me a message on my work e-mail: I'd like to send you a link to our HP videos so you can see what we're working with. (I don't want to publicly post this here, as the list is supposed to be kept private. But since you enthusiastically agreed to help us load these, I need to forward you the content link). Thanks Seth!! A. Bloom 17:01, August 4, 2011 (UTC)

Molly/Ginny Weasley: Magical Skills and Abilities

Hey Seth. So, me and Nick are butting heads again and he suggested I get a second opinion. The problem is two fold:

1. Nick doesn't think Dark Arts should be subsections in Molly and Ginny's Magical skills and abilities sections on the ground that "its stretching the definition of dark arts". I was the impression that Dark Arts = Dark magic (the latter redirects to the former after all) and Molly & Ginny both have been known to (or at least known to threaten to) use Hexes, curses and (for Molly) jinxes. These are all dark magic. Nick disagrees on this point as hexes and jinxes only carry a connotation o dark magic. However, this still makes them dark magic (and hence dark arts) since if something has a connotation of another thing it means that it is associated with that thing and that the other thing is the secondary meaning (next to the primary or literal one). The "other thing" comes with the territory of the first thing as it were. In this case, the "other thing" is dark magic. Hexes and Jinxes both have connotations of dark magic and hence they are both associated with it; dark magic is part of them and they are therefore dark magic. Likewise, curses are also dark magic by definition. Therefore if Molly and Ginny use hexes, curses and jinxes (which they do*) they are requires a section for dark magic, no?

  • Nick also disagrees on this point (i.e. that they do use dark magic) because only film!Molly was seen to use lots of dark magic and that goes against what happened in the book. However, this is not true, since the duel isn't described the film just fills in the blanks hence it is canon. And even if it did, she still killed Bella with a curse over the chest in the book...which is dark magic, so that whole point about the difference between movie and book is null anyway. And even if the whole duel was ignored, she still threatened to use jinxes and hexes in the past, which I have already demonstrated as being dark magic.

2. The other problem is Ginny's inheritance as Nick doesn't think its worthy of being on the magical skills/abilties list. Normally I would agree but Ginny being the 7th child is clearly the cause, not the effect, of her being such a gifted witch (if she wasn't the seventh, she wouldn't be so strong) and likewise for her being the first girl in a while. JK herself says "and that's why Ginny so talented, because she's the seventh [child]". This is backed up by the number 7 being canonically known to have magical properties, not all of which have been uncovered as of yet. Hence Ginny definitely has a magical boost from her inheritance and therefore its definitely an innate skill and should be descibed in the skills section. He thinks because she says its connected with the real world myth of the seventh child being magical its non-canon but that just means its based on it, not non-canon (especially when she says that it is canon, as explained above).

I'm sorry if this is confusing, but I tried to lay it out as out as simply as possible for you to understand and help. At the end of the day, the problems are that Ginny gets an innate magical boost which Nick doesn't want to describe as a skill (even though it is) and Molly & Ginny have practised dark magic but Nick doesn't want to make sections for them on the relevant pages. Those are the problems. Thanks for your time, sorry to be such a pain in the backside Green Zubat 15:36, August 4, 2011 (UTC)

Nick O'Demus 00:09, August 5, 2011 (UTC)
By that logic, though, Dark Arts could be added to the skills of every single character who has ever used a hex or a jinx. While a case could be made for Molly, I think it's a stretch to say Ginny was skilled in the Dark Arts because of the Bat-Bogey Hex. - Nick O'Demus 02:44, August 5, 2011 (UTC)
Ok, thanks Seth. @Nick: and what yould be the problem with adding such a section to relevant characters? And the Bat-bogey hex + Reductor curse + her known knowledge of jinxes signifiies that she's probably moderately skilled in dark magic. Of course, she doesn't favour that sort of magical study over all else, so she's not a dark witch, but you se what I mean. Green Zubat 15:42, August 5, 2011 (UTC)

Flashback or Pensieve?

Hey there, Seth. After watching the Prince's Tale, I'm trying to edit some pages that were in the scene, for example, the Potions Classroom. Since it was in the Pensieve, I was not sure what to put as a template. So I went to the page "Horace Slughorn's first office" since that was seen in the Pensieve. Under the Half-Blood Prince appearance, it said it was seen in flashbacks. However, under the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 appearance, it was seen in the Pensieve, even though the Pensieve was not even seen in Part 1. I was just wondering if you could tell me which one is the correct one, so I could correctly and accurately edit the pages. Thanks. AlastorMoody 02:11, August 6, 2011 (UTC)

Just a question...

So, me and another user were wondering recently: how come the House Points game isn't played anymore? Its seems curious... - Green Zubat 15:53, August 7, 2011 (UTC).

Yes, could we start from August 8th? I am the God of Pokemon!!!!!! 17:12, August 7, 2011 (UTC)

Revival of the House Points Game

Well we can attempt to start it once more! Clear the old joining page and start afresh. We also need some new Prefects for certain houses (i.e Gryffindor as Margiechocoholic has been inactive for roughly 2 months and 3 weeks). I think Hufflepuff post can be filled by Green Zubat. What do you think? Should we officialy begin on August 9th? I am the God of Pokemon!!!!!! 17:25, August 7, 2011 (UTC)

I'm in favor of bringing the house point game back seth. Head of Ravenclaw 19:25, August 7, 2011 (UTC)

I am also in favour of bringing back the game, just heads up - Green Zubat 22:39, August 11, 2011 (UTC).

When you've got a moment, please take a look at the following discussions:

We could really use your input. Thanks, Nick O'Demus 07:20, August 8, 2011 (UTC)

Re:Birth/death year categories

I appreciate your message. Sorry for overreacting. If there had been a discussion, and there was agreement that the categories weren't useful, I don't think I would've had as much objection as I did. But there doesn't seem to have been a discussion and it's a big change to mount without seeing what other people think.

Another thing is that, even though some of the categories only have one individual listed in them at the moment, you never know when an article on another individual with that same birth/death year might be created, so retaining the category saves the trouble of having to re-create it in that event. Hello there, Seth!

I was just wondering what HPW thinks about internal link usage. Does it want a link placed at all times, disregarding the number of times it has already been linked to on the page — or should only the first instance have a link to it?

Hi, Seth! I recognized there is a problem between these two users: User 1 and User 2 about the question: Is Snape a Dark Wizard or not? User 1 says: Yes, User 2 says: No. There is an edit war on the Pages of Severus Snape and Dark Wizards.

Perhaps an admin should declare, what is meant with Dark Wizard and if Snape is already one or is not more. Harry granger 19:57, August 9, 2011 (UTC)

Weasleys' clock

Hi Seth, I'm not really good in english and I don't understand the difference between these two pages : Weasleys' kitchen clock and Weasleys' family clock. Is it a double page or is there any difference between these two clocks ? --   Famini    talk    contribs   16:09, August 10, 2011 (UTC)

So... There's 2 clocks in the books I think. One in the kitchen (chap3 hp2) and one in the living room (chap10 hp4, chap22 hp5, chap5 and chap6 hp6). But is it always the same in the films or is there 2 clocks too ? --   Famini    talk    contribs   16:45, August 10, 2011 (UTC)

So again... OK thank you for explanations about the 2 pages, I understand now, for the books. We should correct appearances, no ? Kitchen's clock appears in HP2 book, not in others. Living room's clock appears in HP4/5/6 books. But I don't know for the films if it's always the 2nd clock. Maybe a "see also" or "disambig" would be most clear for these 2 pages, I think. --   Famini    talk    contribs   16:56, August 10, 2011 (UTC)

Is there the 2 clocks in HP2 film ? Because text in "behind the scenes" of Weasleys' family clock shows that clock in HP2 film is with 9 hands and locations, not the same clock that appears in HP2 book. Sorry to disturb you, but it's not clear for me about the films and I can't access to my DVD... My little son watch the TV. And I don't have the part 1 of DH too. --   Famini    talk    contribs   17:10, August 10, 2011 (UTC)

Dudley Dursley's gang

  • In the book HP5, only four members are mentionned : Dudley Dursley, Piers Polkiss, Gordon and Malcolm. Dennis is not mentionned and we clearly don't know if he's really here.
  • In the film HP5, there are five members and only three are credited : Dudley (Harry Melling), Piers (Jason Boyd) and Malcolm (Richard Macklin). Jason Boyd and Richard Macklin are not really active actors so there's not pics of them on the net and I even don't know which guys they are.
  • On Castingcallpro, we could read that Christopher Rithin is one the two other actors. But it's not said which guy he portrays. On the wiki it's said that it's Dennis (in the page of Dennis, but there's no source about this. And as I said, Dennis is even not mentionned in the book.
  • In the film HP5, a member of the french wiki has verified and there's no mention about the names of these guys in the scene to identify them.
  • So how could we have individual pics on the individual pages ? I don't understand...

Hey Seth,

Despite both of your warnings, Charles Barker continues to add fanon to pages and now has removed some key elements to some pages. Thanks. --Head of Ravenclaw 21:32, August 10, 2011 (UTC)

Seth, thanks for changing the article “Alderton”’s name. You are an exceptional admin and I thank you for your services to Harry Potter Wiki. MTG1989 01:56, August 11, 2011 (UTC)

Wow, I must comprise like half your talk page, sorry to keep bothering. However, this is rather important.

Basically, there are these three pages on the wiki known as Inanimate to animate Transfiguration, Animate to inanimate Transfiguration and Inanimate to inanimate Transfiguration. They're supposed to be different categories that transfifuration spells fit into but they a.) are not attested to anywhere in canon (and hence are fanon) and b.) don't even fit with canon (for example, some spells like Lapifors can't be classified into any of those categories neatly). Having rewitten the transfigurations series of articles to better accord with canon (using actual canon terms to classify things with, for example) I am hence now campaigning for their deletion from the wiki.

I'm just bringing this to your attention in case you wanted to vote for their deletion, so I can hopefully speed this process up. You'll find them on the Category:Candidates for deletion talk page incase you do want to vote for them. I already sent a similar message to Head of Ravenclaw so if I can just get one more vote this fanon will finally be eradicated from the wiki. Many thanks for your time and consideration, Green Zubat 22:37, August 11, 2011 (UTC).

Thanks a bunch! I am eternally grateful - Green Zubat 22:43, August 11, 2011 (UTC).
==Signature Question?==
What's the command to color text in my signature? Is it like "color=red" or something?

Question about infoboxes

Hello Seth, I'm relatively new to editing on Wiki's, and have a quick question about infoboxes. I've been wanting to add one to my profile for some time now (a Ravenclaw one, like the one you have), and I can't figure out how to do it right to save my life. I'm usually tech-savvy, but this one has me totally stumped, so I figured I'd turn to an admin. I've tried copying infoboxes from other people's pages using the edit feature (without making any changes to their page), pasting them onto my page, and replacing the information in them with my own, but it never seems to work. I also can't seem to find any instructions on how to do this on this website, even when I explicitly search for "infoboxes". I would really appreciate your help in this matter. -JDRooDigger 01:44, August 12, 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for your response. I tried what you suggested, and it had the same result as every other time I've done it. Of course, I do leave out some of the info, but I've seen other people do it for theirs, so I don't think that can be the problem. Maybe it's because I'm not putting a picture in the infobox? I'm not sure how to do that, anyway, but it didn't really concern me because I already have a "profile picture". If any of these things sound like they could potentially be the problem, please let me know, because this is getting very frusterating. -JDRooDigger 16:53, August 12, 2011 (UTC)

Never mind, i figured it out! Thanks for your assistance! -JDRooDigger 18:16, August 12, 2011 (UTC)

Merging Two Articles

Hi Seth,

Would it be ok if I merged Rubeus Hagrid's umbrella with Rubeus Hagrid's wand? I already did a major edit on the curses page but I wanted to ask before I merged two pages. Thanks, Head of Ravenclaw |   Send me an Owl! 15:06, August 12, 2011 (UTC)

House Points Game

Hi Seth. Could you please explain to me what the house points game is?

Pokeball32102 00:06, August 13, 2011 (UTC)

For at least a week or so now, the website has been down whenever I've tried to access it. Could you check if you have the same issue, so I'll know it's not just me? - Nick O'Demus 18:41, August 13, 2011 (UTC)

P.S. - I added a bunch of DH2 quotes to the QOTW nominations. I'll try to add some new images to the Selected Pictures nominations too a bit later.
Feh, figures. Site's down for a week or more, but when I bring it up as an issue, it's back up within a couple of hours. Oh well, at least it's working again. I was going to mention that, if the site had gone down permanently (that they haven't updated in three years had me thinking this was a possibility), there is a backup of sorts: keeps an archive of old versions of webpages. For example, the most recent archive for is However, this would still require going through the wiki and changing every single Accio-Quote link in the references (every link address would also have to be checked individually; that sequence of numbers in the archive link is different for each page). - Nick O'Demus 01:06, August 14, 2011 (UTC)

"Possible" family members?

In many articles' infoboxes (specifically the "family members section") it gives wizards with the same last name (such as Sturgis Podmore and Patrick Delaney-Podmore) are listed as "possible relatives". Keeping in mind that J.K Rowling had thousands of last names at her disposal when she wrote the books (and tons more she could have made up), why would she give two people the same last name? I really think these should be changed from "possible relative" to "relative". -HoboHunter28- (Leave me an owl!) 00:37, August 14, 2011 (UTC)

Sorry for leaving you so many messages

I have another question though. On the "year" pages (take 1979 for example) every event including known ones such as Hermione's birthday are marked with "Citation Needed". Is there some meaning to this or is it just a mistake? -HoboHunter28- (Leave me an owl!) 02:00, August 14, 2011 (UTC)

Pottermore information

Alright, with the early opening beta of Pottermore underway, new information is starting to dribble onto the site: case in point - Ollivander's first name is revealed, and the name of McGonagall's mother. Now, with this being a closed beta, we're going to be hard pressed to verify this info unless at least one of us has entry to Pottermore. If we don't, we're going to have to trust the user base until we can verify it. I have been accepted myself for early entry, but am still waiting for access. So the question is, has anyone else applied for/ got early entry so we can effectively screen for fanon? - Cavalier OneGryffindorcrest(Wizarding Wireless Network) 17:07, August 15, 2011 (UTC)

Screenshots would be ideal, but I've been thinking about and we probably can't make it work. Every piece of new info would have to be cataloged, which is fair enough, we can handle that with appropriate templating and categories. But, we would also be reproducing the text from Pottermore for a public audience, which, since it is in a closed Beta, would probably violate a large amount of copyright laws. With the fair use provision, we skirt round a few issues, but this would not go unnoticed. I think we'll have to wait, trust our user base, create a spoiler template for affected articles and possibly start applying {{fact}} tags like Bachlynn suggested. - Cavalier OneGryffindorcrest(Wizarding Wireless Network) 22:14, August 15, 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, a template either like the Fact one, or a large one at the top of the page would do. Also, coding the template to automatically categorise the page in a maintenance category so we can keep tabs on which articles need to be checked. - Cavalier OneGryffindorcrest(Wizarding Wireless Network) 22:29, August 15, 2011 (UTC)
I never knew that. Good idea. We may have to extend it to trusted users just in case the admins don't split evenly between the four houses, although we can cross that bridge if and when we come to it. - Cavalier OneGryffindorcrest(Wizarding Wireless Network) 22:41, August 15, 2011 (UTC)
{{Pottermore}} spoiler template for articles with Pottermore content as discussed. Acts as both a warning template to avoid spoilers and a maintenance one for admins. - Cavalier OneGryffindorcrest(Wizarding Wireless Network) 08:16, August 16, 2011 (UTC)

Hey Seth. As you may have seen from my discussion with Nick, I've uploaded the new Hogwarts house crests from Pottermore. I figured that as they come from Rowlings own site they would be a welcome alternative to the film versions. Jayden Matthews 19:03, August 17, 2011 (UTC)

And about time too! I'm glad to see that Slytherin is getting the right kind of love at long last. To be honest, I can't even remeber the name of that forum we had going, or if it even exists anymore. Should we start a new one? Or maybe move it to the talk pages? Jayden Matthews 20:40, August 17, 2011 (UTC)

I found the forum about which Jayden Matthews wrote. The name is: Forum:Hogwarts Crests. Harry granger 15:22, August 18, 2011 (UTC)

I'm so sorry. I made Ravenclaw Corridor, and it was a terrible addition to this wiki. Thank you for deleting it.

Abby Black

Hey Seth, my name is Marianne and just last night I added some pictures realted to the tales of Beedle the bard. Can you please tell me why've you've deleted them and why some others are now attributed to other users. Please answer as soon as you read this. Marianne mione 08:02, August 20, 2011 (UTC)

My Pottermore e-mail came this morning. Took the Sorting Hat quiz and got Ravenclaw, unfortunately, because I got a bunch of abstract questions that weren't easy to predict ("Dusk or dawn?", "Heads or tails?", etc.). I was always a borderline case, though, so I suppose I shouldn't be all that surprised at the outcome. I'm letting you know this in case you want to try for Slytherin so we can fulfill the one-admin-per-House plan. But the test seems difficult to skew so you might just want to go with giving the answers you'd naturally give. Starstuff (Owl me!) 01:08, August 25, 2011 (UTC)

Sorry to say that I no longer plan on working on anything pertaining to Pottermore. I was hoping to get the potions stuff up today, but instead I had to spend the entire morning trying to explain that "Tongue-Tying Spell, "Tongue-Tying Curse," and Mimblewimble are the same spell. I can't single-handedly work at building our coverage of Pottermore while at the same time having to stop to justify every single edit. It's just too frustrating. Starstuff (Owl me!) 23:48, August 28, 2011 (UTC)
Disregard the above. Thanks for letting me vent my frustration. Starstuff (Owl me!) 03:21, August 29, 2011 (UTC)
I think User:Parodist has access, per a comment made on Talk:Archie Aymslowe, but of the admins, I think I'm currently still the only one. Starstuff (Owl me!) 00:26, August 29, 2011 (UTC)

Great new ideas for templates

I was thinking there could be a template that says that the subject of an article appears in a non-canon role in one or more of the movies (for example, Neville gives Harry Gillyweed in the Goblet of Fire movie, not Dobby, or how Goyle is killed in Deathly Hallows Part 2) and to not change it to fit the movie.

My second idea is a template that says the article contains British spelling (such as "Defence" or "Neighbour" or "Colour") and to not change it to fit American spelling.

I'm sort of thinking "Imperio" (maybe because people act differently under the Imperius Curse, if you get what I mean) could be the spell for the first. "Petrificus Totalus" should be used for the second. What do you think? I pitched this to Nick O'Demus but he appears to be mostly offline. -HoboHunter28- (Leave me an owl!) 16:49, August 29, 2011 (UTC)

Alright. I just suggested this because I've seen both of these mistakes many times. -HoboHunter28- (Leave me an owl!) 19:37, August 29, 2011 (UTC)

Yet another Sorting Hat topic..

Student assortment.

I've always kind of wondered this, but wouldn't it have made more sense for the Sorting Hat to have placed Molly Weasley in Hufflepuff instead of Gryffindor? It seems to me like she has more qualities a Hufflepuff student would posses, like being hard working, loyal and fair. The way I see it, people who cook and work the way she does, should be Sorted into nothing else but Hufflepuff, while being in Gryffindor has more to do with bravery, daring, and courageousness. Any thoughts? -- ImperiexSeed, 2:27 PM, August 29th 2011

I have recently noticed an upsurge in the creation of pages about the wands of background charcters whose wand wood and core materials are unknown. These pages (the vast majority of which have been created by Danniesen) are essentially clones of each other with only the names of the characters changed. I think it would be more practical to merge all of these into one article entitled "Wands of unknown wood and core material" (or something of the sort). What do you think? -JDRooDigger 18:27, August 29, 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for pointing that out to me. I have left my suggestion on that forum. -JDRooDigger 20:28, August 29, 2011 (UTC)

Conjuring / Manipulating Fire Spell

I believe McGonagall conjured the fire from the torches in the Great Hall,to duel Snape. With that she attacked him and when they ended their duel, she moved her wand and the flames returned to the torches. If you look closely the duel scene you will notice that by the time Snape leaves Hogwarts the flames of the torches have deminished. 15:41, August 30, 2011 (UTC)

Harry Potter Film Wizardry

Hi. I have no idea how to do the templates for pictures, and the page needs two pictures, one of the UK cover and one of the USA cover. Could you help me figure it out? Sev Lover Forever 02:09, September 3, 2011 (UTC)

Dugald McPhail

This user deleted information from Pottermore from the above mentioned site. Are there new informations that the deleted infos are wrong? Harry granger 20:44, August 30, 2011 (UTC)

Please block IP

He has vandalized multiple pages by replacing the content with "just hacked" in a short time. Thanks. -Shorty1982 22:43, August 30, 2011 (UTC)
