Re: New theme

Hi, Seth! I saw MinorStoops request because of the orange colour for the admins. You can change them here:

Oh, I understand. That you find here:
Begins with: /* Recent Change Colors For User Groups
When adding new users put them in alpha order */

Harry granger   Talk   contribs 18:06, June 30, 2014 (UTC)
Okay, that I didn't know. It does not change anything when you change this colour line?
{ font-weight: bold !important; color:#800080 !important; }
Harry granger   Talk   contribs 07:21, July 1, 2014 (UTC)
Okay, I think I now know why that doesn't work with the admin colour. When I look in the MediaWiki:Wikia.css of my wiki there is this code:
/* Color admin links differently (Orange) */
ul.special li a[title="User:Harry granger"], td a[title="User:Harry granger"],
ul.activityfeed li cite a[href="/wiki/User:Harry_granger"] {
font-weight: bold;
This code I don't find here. Perhaps anymore? Perhaps it works when you change orange to purple and #FF7F00 to purple and then put this code onto this MediaWiki-page here.
Harry granger   Talk   contribs 17:11, July 3, 2014 (UTC)
Yes, everywhere you could read my name these lines must repeated with the names of all the admins. Here an example of Hunnie Bunn's Potter Dictionary Wiki:
/* Color admin links differently (Orange) */
ul.special li a[title="User:Alyncia"], td a[title="User:Alyncia"],
ul.activityfeed li cite a[href="/wiki/User:Alyncia"],
ul.special li a[title="User:Harry granger"], td a[title="User:Harry granger"],
ul.activityfeed li cite a[href="/wiki/User:Harry_granger"],
ul.special li a[title="User:Hunnie Bunn"], td a[title="User:Hunnie Bunn"],
ul.activityfeed li cite a[href="/wiki/User:Hunnie Bunn"] {
font-weight: bold;
Harry granger   Talk   contribs 17:43, July 4, 2014 (UTC)

When you look here: Special.CSS Potter Dictionary Wiki you can see that user names with two names are written this way:

ul.special li a[title="User:Harry granger"], td a[title="User:Harry granger"],
ul.activityfeed li cite a[href="/wiki/User:Harry_granger"],
ul.special li a[title="User:Hunnie Bunn"], td a[title="User:Hunnie Bunn"],
ul.activityfeed li cite a[href="/wiki/User:Hunnie_Bunn"]
First line: Without this sign: _ Example: Harry granger
Second line: Without this sign: _ Example: Harry granger
Third line: With this sign: _ Example:Harry_granger

When you look at the lines in your css they are written:

All three with the sign: _
I suggest that's the problem.  Harry granger   Talk   contribs 12:11, July 5, 2014 (UTC)

Great! I've seen it works now. Wonderful! Now you must change the MediaWiki:Recentchangestext back!  Harry granger   Talk   contribs 20:17, July 5, 2014 (UTC)
Not at all! I'm glad that it works now. :-)  Harry granger   Talk   contribs 21:38, July 5, 2014 (UTC)

Harry Potter Food Fiction

Hey, Rick! Thanks again for helping us promote the wikia spiff stuff. I'm reaching out to you again because we were hoping to do a Harry Potter food fiction this month! Examples of food fiction we've done on other wikias can be found here: Recipes Wiki. We generally have submission blogs on the respective wikia and then a voting blog after the submissions period! The categories we have in mind are

  • Hogwart's Main Dishes
  • Desserts
  • Drinks
  • Favorite Jokeshop Treats (Zonkos, Honeydukes)
  • Magical Delights (potions or magical foods)

Is there an alternative category that you or any admin think would be better than one of the categories above? Something we've done before is like on Adventure Time we had a category for people good enough to eat since there are characters in the Candy Kingdom. Let me know what you think and if it would be alright for us to host the program here and promote it on the main page! Grace @fandom (profile)•(talk) 19:25, July 1, 2014 (UTC)

Awesome! I also love those other categories :D I guess what we will do now for categories (since this is for Harry Potter's birthday bash) is the following:

  • Locale for Party
  • "Host" of the Party
  • Hogwart's Main Dishes
  • Desserts
  • Drinks
  • Favorite Jokeshop Treats (Zonkos, Honeydukes)
  • Magical Delights (potions or magical foods)

And then "Grossest Food" sounds kind of fun so maybe we'll throw that in. I'll keep you updated! Grace @fandom (profile)•(talk) 21:02, July 2, 2014 (UTC)

Hello! The Food Fiction blog is up :D Click here to check it out! Could you help us promote it on this wikia too? Also, would you mind if we put the banner that is on the blog on the Harry Potter character page so more people will know we're doing programming for his birthday? Let me know, thanks! Audio clips/Quidditch matches

I had a look on the audio clip forum and it seems that there are no objections so far. Do you know how to add the feature?

Also, I´ve thought about qudditch match articles and infoboxes again and think that it would be best to start creatinmg them after the 2014 QWC is over. What do you think?

Wikia's Comic-Con Team

Hey, Rick! Sorry to bother you again, but I'm sure you already saw that one of our Wikia staff members posted this blog asking for Wikians going to the San Diego Comic-Con to be a part of our Wikia team! We are hoping to get a bunch of people involved so I was wondering if we could add it somewhere on the main page or link to it from the Community Messages section? Let me know what you think, thanks! Grace @fandom (profile)•(talk) 19:57, July 8, 2014 (UTC)

Great! I'll add it to News and Community Section then. Thanks for responding so quickly :D Grace @fandom (profile)•(talk) 20:54, July 8, 2014 (UTC)

Template:Daily Prophet individual infobox

Hi, Seth! Something is wrong with this above mentioned template. It seems to be the signature which breaks the template. Examples: Rita Skeeter and Ginevra Weasley. In the article of Bozo the template works correct. Perhaps you can have a look on it.  Harry granger   Talk   contribs 15:38, July 9, 2014 (UTC)

What's going on here? The Template:Gryffindor individual infobox is also broken? It seems all infobox templates with signature are broken. Harry granger   Talk   contribs 15:43, July 9, 2014 (UTC)
When you look on the lion at the bottom of my user page you can see the file looks strange as the files of the signatures do.  Harry granger   Talk   contribs 15:52, July 9, 2014 (UTC)

Sorry for bothering you. I now know that it was a bug because Community Central has made an update and then it happened and is already fixed.

New question

In Pottermore - New from J.K. Rowling: Daily Prophet ("Dumbledore's Army Returns", 8 July 2014) was mentioned from Rita Skeeter that Hannah Longbottom has retrained as a healer. Shall we put Healer in the infobox as second job? And Hermione Granger is called Granger despite her marriage. In the infobox you can read Hermione Jean Weasley, née Granger. But is that really correct when she is already called Granger in 2014?  Harry granger   Talk   contribs 14:39, July 10, 2014 (UTC)

Just to add on to what Harry granger said about Hermione, actor's comments have been taken as canon before and Emma Watson specifically says Hermione kept her name; Rowling does not contradict her. Hunnie Bunn (talk) 12:49, July 10, 2014 (UTC)

Hi Seth Cooper!

I'm reaching out today to see if it's okay if we set up a "Parent Page" on the Harry Potter Wiki. Also, if you are okay with it, do you and the other admins have any interest in helping us fill it out?

Here is a Parent Page example from The Hunger Games Wiki to give you an idea of what the page entails. Essentially, it's a guide for parents about the age range for different wikis.

Let me know if you have any questions! We are planning to start setting up the pages over the next week or so. Thanks so much!

Best, Asnow89 @@fandom (profile)•(talk) 23:02, July 10, 2014 (UTC)

Two things.

One: we should put a notice on the front page that Krum was victorious in the Quidditch World Cup?! (YAY! I AM CRYING! THERE ARE TEARS AND ME SQUEALING AND JUMPING UP AND DOWN PUNCHING THE AIR AND SCREAMING AND EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEH!)

Two: Can we, after the July 8th article, state that Teddy is a half-werewolf half metamorphmagus? I know Skeeter stated it, but J.K. Rowling wrote the article for Pottermore. Thus, that makes it the highest tier of canon; Teddy is a half-werewolf half Metamorphmagus. Shall I add it? It is, technically, canon. HarryPotterRules1 (talk) 20:54, July 11, 2014 (UTC)

Yeah, put that in. HarryPotterRules1 (talk) 23:44, July 13, 2014 (UTC)

I'd assume Rita is correct - Ginny doesn't hex her for calling Teddy a werewolf... but does hex her for the other things. By that logic - Ginny hexing for saying things against her family, but not against Teddy - implies that Teddy is half-werewolf, half Metamorphmagus. HarryPotterRules1 (talk) 12:13, September 28, 2014 (UTC)

Wizarding schools

Watching the walkthrough I mentioned above, I noticed that several wizarding schools are mentioned:

  • A Russian wizarding school (Can you understand the name? I hear it as "Coldoseras")
  • An african wizarding school. Unfortunately, I couldn´t understand the name and where in Africa it is located.
  • The Japanse school we already knew of is also shown.

Can you create articles on those schools? Maybe we should create articles about each individual champion?

Also, what about crating articles on the potions championship comentator and the unidentified Hogwarts librarian at the start of the game?

Rodolphus (talk) 13:26, July 12, 2014 (UTC)

Can you understand where the African school is located? I think the commentator says something like hailing from ... in Africa. Rodolphus (talk) 22:25, July 13, 2014 (UTC)

Of course.

It´s at minute 1:45. Personally, I understand it as "Weikedu School of Magic" from somewehere in Afriva. What do you think? Perhaps yoz could also help me taking images of the champions. Rodolphus (talk) 23:00, July 13, 2014 (UTC)

Can you help me taking an image of the champions? They are never in full view, I´m afraid.

  • Japansese champion: Part 2, 1st minute
  • Russian champion: part 3, 27th minute
  • African champion: part 5 27th minute

I´ve also created a uniforms category. Unfortunately, I don´t know the right words to describe some pieces of clothing. Perhaps you could help me. There are also other zniforms that we could create an article on.

Here is a complete list:

  • Mahoutocoro uniform
  • Russian uiform
  • African unifom

These articles would use a BTS section stating that it´s unknown if this is the general school uniform or if it was only used for the championship.

  • Smeltings uniform
  • St.-Mungo uniform
  • Durmstrang uniform (already created, but needs a good image. Any ideas?
  • Beauxbatons uniform (calready created and image added, but maybe yould expand it and add a quote.

Thank you for helping me and for writing great articles. Rodolphus (talk) 18:10, July 14, 2014 (UTC)

House Points

What are the chances of the Houe Points Game being restarted? I think it's really fun, but now that it's been discontinued, well I guess I'm just kind of disappointed. Allsevenbooks (talk) 03:55, July 13, 2014 (UTC)

Marital status/actor comments

Firstly, I wondered if the fact that a female adult character does not wear a wedding ring could be a basis for adding perhaps a BTS note or a "Unmarried (possibly)" in the infobox for that character. Dolores Umbridge and Rita Skeeter are the first ones that come to mind not wearing rings, and neither one is mentioned to have a husband (both characters are so despicable that it wouldn't surprise me if they're unmarried). That would, of course, be only a possibly if anything.

Secondly, I noticed that on this page, actor's comments were considered canon with the length and history of the wand; why, then, can Watson's comments on Hermione's name and marital status not be considered canon? (I know Hermione's page has already been changed to reflect her maiden name, but I wanted to get the canon policy figured out). Thanks! Hunnie Bunn (talk) 23:48, July 13, 2014 (UTC)

Minerva McGonagall was married but did not take the name of her husband. So it could be that Rita Skeeter and Dolores Umbridge are married, too, but did not take the name of their husband. There's no certainty.

On the other hand they could also be widowed or divorced and the name is not their maiden name.

Last but not least, not all people wear a ring.

Translation of articles

Hi, Seth!

As I once told you I am admin and now also bureaucrat on the German Harry-Potter-Lexikon. As I saw on other wikis in other languages there are articles who were only translated from articles which are created on this wiki.

I wanted to ask now if that's okay for you and if the German Harry-Potter-Lexikon may do so, too.

It's okay when you say No, but I thought I try and ask. In advance of your answer

Block request

The user Daveandbusters has been messing with the Template:Harrypotter page by replacing the links with external links to Youtube to which I had to revert though I don't know if I got all of it with my revert. Also this user did a similar thing on Harry Potter: The Exhibition, the only other page they edited and I believe with the number of vandal edits an appropriate punishment may need to be given. -Adv193 (talk) 05:07, July 16, 2014 (UTC)

Shadow of Mordor versus tournament

Hi Seth Cooper! I'm Mark, from Wikia's Community Development Team.

I'm reaching out to see if your community would like to be a part of a versus tournament we're hosting on the Shadow of Mordor wikia. It would go live in September, and we would be pitting Harry Potter against Celebrimbor from Shadow of Mordor. The voting would live in a blog on Shadow of Mordor and we would post a button on Harry Potter's page here encouraging your community to vote for them. On the voting blog we would link back to your wikia, and we'll be promoting the tournament around Wikia. If your community would like to be a part of the tournament, which would include the button on Harry Potter's page as well as a link back to your community from the voting blog, please let me know by 8/29.

Mud Bloods Documentary Q&A

Hey there Seth! We're in contact with the creators of the Mud Blood documentary ( and we were wondering if you'd like to do a Q&A with them. We'd need to get this out pretty quick since the release date is next week.

Hiya Seth! Long time, no talk (or write :p)!

I wasn't sure, first off, whether to message you or make a blog post/forum, and secondly, whether it was a good idea at all. So I figured I might as well ask you first before doing anything else. But I remember last Hallowe'en (or one of them) where (I'm pretty sure) we did up the wiki's theme for the event and then changed it back afterwards. I was wondering whether the general community was interested in doing something like that again this year. First I thought I would get your opinion on the matter - especially since I'm not sure how easily undone themes are, and the theme we have now is admittedly rather cool.

Sorry for such the long message! Cheers! Hunnie Bunn (talk) 22:01, October 21, 2014 (UTC)

The navigation tabs at the top of the screen have changed. The "Books"/"Films"/"Characters" tabs we had before are gone, and now it's just "Popular Pages". What's more, I'd had a couple of pages still open from earlier today (at around 13:30) on other tabs on my browser in order to follow up on some previous edits, and those still show the old navigation tabs, but I don't see any recent changes to any of the MediaWiki functions since then. There's been a persistent vandal who keeps replacing images with a picture of a ceiling fan (most frequently hitting File:Dhharryroomhighreso.jpg and File:Albus_Dumbledore_(HBP_promo)_3.jpg). Some of the portrait images you uploaded last year are appearing upside-down for some reason. I tried saving and reploading one of them, but it still came out upside down. I've uploaded lower-quality alternates of the ones I've found so far as a temporary fix.

Harry Potter Community App

Hey, Rick!

Did you know that approximately half of the visits across Wikia are coming from mobile devices? To support that mobile traffic, Wikia is creating iOS and Android apps that focus exclusively on individual communities. We are happy to inform you that Harry Potter Wiki has been selected to receive a dedicated community app. This means that you will have an app exclusively for your community that you, the admins, can curate!

Check out this help page that will explain how and where to manage your content in your community app, and also ways to promote your Community App on your own community.

If you have any questions about the Community App itself, how to manage content on it, or how to promote it, please write in to Special:Contact. Thanks for being an exceptional community! Good luck with the app! Grace @fandom (profile)•(talk) 00:15, December 11, 2014 (UTC)

Hi, Rick. I had actually read the wiki canon policy. The problem is that some characters appeared in the films/video games can't be considered because contradict the book, such as Fay Dunbar and her friend. Boy 2 can't be considered canon, because we know there are only 5 boys in Harry's year (Harry, Ron, Neville, Seamus and Dean). I hope you understood :)

GianG (talk) 20:15, December 14, 2014 (UTC)

I know what J. K. Rowling said on Pottermore. However the numbers are not her strong point, as stated by her.

Her comment contradicts evidence from the book.

In Harry Potter and the Phylosoper Stone, the joint Gryffindor/Slytherin class included 20 students.

In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the joint Gryffindor/Hufflepuff class included 20 students.

In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, the Gryffindor class included 10 students: 5 boys (Harry, Ron, Neville, Dean and Seamus) and 5 girls (Hermione, Calì and three unidentified girls). One of the three unidentified girls is Lavanda Brown.

Basing on the book, we know there are:

  • 10 Gryffindors (Harry, Ron, Hermione, Neville, Dean, Seamus, Calì, Lavanda and two unidentified girls).
  • 10 Slytherins
  • 10 Hufflepuffs
  • Unknown number of Ravenclaws. There are at leats 6 Ravenclaws (Padma, Terry, Michael, Anthony, Mandy and Lisa). It can be assumed there are actually ABOUT 10 Ravenclaws.

Finally, I want to say that JKR initially thought that Harry's class included around 40 students, but after the writing of the books she thought 40 students per class didn't join her idea of Hogwarts, but the books are the books...

Hey, Seth!

Sorry to bother you, but the page Salazar Slytherin's locket needs an admin to rename it (to "Slytherin's Locket" as per the talk page), and as you're the most recently active administrator (as well as one of the coolest active admins if I do say so), I was wondering whether you might please be able to initiate the change. Useless pages

Hi, Rick. I noted that in the wiki there are two useless pages: Unidentified Hufflepuff boy and Unidentified Hufflepuff girl (II).

The two pages are referred to the missing Hufflepuff male and the missing Hufflepuff female in Harry's year. But these pages are useless for two reasons:

  • Both the missing Hufflepuffs males and females are two. Zacharias Smith was never mentioned to be in Harry's year and it is not confirmed Leanne was in Harry's year in the novels.
  • The four missing Hufflepuffs are in the classslist, so they already have their own pages.

I hope you'll be able to delete these two pages. Thanks. GianG (talk) 11:04, December 24, 2014 (UTC)

Sophie Roper, Runcorn and Sally Smith

Notebook houses
Zooming the picture with paint, we can really find the houses of the students.

The letters "G" and "S" can't be confused, while "H" and "R" got easily mixed up. Looking at Roger Malone's letter, we can understan he is either in Ravenclaw or in Hufflepuff.

Looking at Madhari and Mati Patil, we can note Mati is a Gryffindor, while Madhari is in either Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff (she is actually a Ravenclaw).

Then I went to analyze Sophie Roper's, Runcorn's and Sally Smith's houses. Runcorn's letter seems more "H" than "R" and we also know she can't be in Ravenclaw. Looking very well at Sophie's and Sally's letters, we can deduce they are both "G".

GianG (talk) 17:07, December 26, 2014 (UTC)

Please at least try to zoom the picture (at 300 %). The letters can be seen if you zoom, because they had been badly overshawed.

Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom

The page state this: "The office used by the Defence Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardy is located on the second floor of Hogwarts Castle. It is connected to the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom by a small stairway."

Then Defence Against the Dark Arts Classroom page said: "Classroom 3C is where Defence Against the Dark Arts class is taught. It is located on the third floor. In 1991, Professor Quirinus Quirrell taught in a different classroom because the Third Floor Corridor was out of bounds."

The office is located on the second floor and the classroom is located on the third floor. How is it possible the office is connected to the classsroom by a small stairway?

Since this doesn't directly contradicts the books, we should put the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom on the second floor, or maybe (because Quirrel taught in another classroom, probably because it was on the third floor), we should mention this as an incongruence in the "Behind the scenes" section.

Hello, I was chatting with Nick o'demus, trying to resolve the issue where the Relationships section of the Harry Potter page isn't showing in the contents drop down. I made the school year sections/horcrux hunt histories Expandable, and collapsable in an effort to shorten page so it'll show, it failed. I'd like your permission to create a "Harry Potter's Relationships" page and add a link in the HP page under where they would be listed, to the relationships page. I'd also like to know if you'd like to leave the HP page as i edited it, or if you want me to revert it. Zane T 69 (talk) 04:17, January 23, 2015 (UTC)

User Jdogno7

I want to formally alert you that you currently have a known wiki troll using your site to annoy and inconvenience your community. He likes to disguise his behavior by claiming that he simply "disagrees" with others, but a perusal of his history will show that he routinely replaces correct grammar with incorrect grammar, performs mass-edits of wikis when his changes are either non-canonical or unwarranted, and regularly engages in edit wars. Furthermore, he steadfastly refuses to compromise with site administrators, and has been blocked from several other wikis for his behavior, for harassing other users, and for hostility.

In the interest of saving you time and preventing you from having to do extensive research on your own, I've compiled evidence of his behavior from other wikis. You can see for yourself the problems he's caused here simply by checking his talk page as well as his contribution history.

User: Jdogno7

I speak to LuciaMoore:

"I want to formally alert you that you currently have a known wiki troll using your site to annoy and inconvenience your community.": "...a known wiki troll using your site to annoy and inconvenience your community.", I am not a troll of any kind. I do not use any site to annoy and inconvenience any person.

"He likes to disguise his behavior by claiming that he simply "disagrees" with others, but a perusal of his history will show that he routinely replaces correct grammar with incorrect grammar, performs mass-edits of wikis when his changes are either non-canonical or unwarranted, and regularly engages in edit wars.": "He likes to disguise his behavior by claiming that he simply "disagrees" with others,...", I am not disguising any behavior. I did have a legitimate disagreement with others. Sometimes people disagree on a matter. "...but a perusal of his history will show that he routinely replaces correct grammar with incorrect grammar,...", So I might have a different view from others on correct grammar. There is not a single view on correct grammar in any language (certainly English). "...performs mass-edits of wikis when his changes are either non-canonical or unwarranted...": An example of where I made a change that was "non-canonical or unwarranted"? "and regularly engages in edit wars.": With who? What wiki was it? Where on the wiki? When did it occur?

"Furthermore, he steadfastly refuses to compromise with site administrators, and has been blocked from several other wikis for his behavior, for harassing other users, and for hostility.": That is not true, I am willing to compromise with site administrators. Harassing other users? Which users? Hostility? How have I been hostile?

  • Scoobypedia for one year for (in the admin's words) being a nuisance. Further investigation shows the same behavior that got him blocked from the other wikis. (Link)

Mind you, that's just what I was able to find within 10 minutes by searching Google for "Jdogno7 wiki." This list doesn't include the numerous wikis where he has received multiple warnings but hasn't been blocked yet, including this one.

Finally, when he learned the identity of one of your community members that spoke against him over at the Hercules & Xena wiki, he went to their talk page here and warned them to back off. Here's a link to that page:

Obviously, what you do with your wiki is your own business, however after having the misfortune of dealing with this user over the past week, I felt that the full light of his antics should be expressed completely to an admin for your wiki, as this seems to be one of the wikis where he is highly active, and one where he has stirred the pot more than most and not yet been blocked. Hopefully, you'll find a way to deal with him appropriately. LuciaMoore (talk) 01:31, April 23, 2015 (UTC)

First of all, I have not received an indefinite ban from the Disney wiki. Second of all, the ban on Wookiepedia is only for one month not one year.

Third, going into the individual cases:

  • Digimon wiki: I was not having constant edit wars, on many occasions I tried to ask what was wrong and there were many times when nobody would explain so. I was not using other people's talk pages to ask non-wiki related questions, I was trying to clarify the official perspective on certain details, so that I would not state them incorrectly.
  • Xenaverse wiki: What edit war? Yes, some pages may have been altered back and forth over the course of 4-5 days (April 13-16/17) by us (with a new point made each time) but after that I took it to the talk page to discuss before further changes were made on my part to those articles (April 17/18-21). I spent the last four days before my block discussing the dispute rather than continue to edit back and forth on those respective pages (those edited on from April 13-16). How was I harassing others via talk pages?
  • Smallville wiki: I was not hostile towards other users. I merely disagreed with them on a matter. That does not make me hostile.
  • Dragon Ball wiki: I was not hostile towards other users. I merely disagreed with them on a matter. That does not make me hostile.
  • Disney wiki: I was not hostile. There were disagreements. The first topic of dispute, I have accepted to have been in the wrong. The latest one, however, I still stand by my view. There is a difference between refusal to comply with Admin requests and refusal to agree with their viewpoint.
  • DC wiki: I was not hostile. I may have disagreed with others' views. There is a difference between refusal to comply with Admin requests and refusal to agree with their viewpoint.
  • Wookiepedia (Star Wars Wiki): I didn't vandalise anything. I may have made some incorrect changes (which I did not realize to be at the time) but I was not disruptive.
  • Scoobypedia: The admin refused to explain what was wrong with things that I had done.

"Finally, when he learned the identity of one of your community members that spoke against him over at the Hercules & Xena wiki, he went to their talk page here and warned them to back off. Here's a link to that page:": Well why did MinorStoop even get involved? He was not an editor on the Xenaverse wiki beforehand. The dispute was not even between him and I for one thing. Why did he choose to hide himself even? I told him to back off because he was being harassing in his behavior to me.

"Obviously, what you do with your wiki is your own business, however after having the misfortune of dealing with this user over the past week, I felt that the full light of his antics should be expressed completely to an admin for your wiki, as this seems to be one of the wikis where he is highly active, and one where he has stirred the pot more than most and not yet been blocked. Hopefully, you'll find a way to deal with him appropriately.": "...however after having the misfortune of dealing with this user over the past week,...": I can't say that my interaction with you remained anything akin to pleasant after no more than four days to tell the truth. "...I felt that the full light of his antics should be expressed completely to an admin for your wiki, as this seems to be one of the wikis where he is highly active,...": What made you feel that it was your right to badmouth me to anyone? "and one where he has stirred the pot more than most and not yet been blocked.": So I am a criminal for not agreeing with everyone?

Hi there Seth! I was told to tell you that Grace sent me. I’m Andrew, one of the community managers at Wikia. If you don’t know me, here’s my CC profile. I like baseball, laying on the beach with no plans or goals for the day, and climbing things.

We have a new beta project out, and since it's going to be critical to Wikia's future, we're asking for your help.

We want to partner with your community (and a couple others) and collaborate on a redesign of your existing infoboxes. It’s not a small task, but it’s one that we think we can get done relatively quickly and efficiently. Our engineers - both here in San Francisco and in Poland - will get hands-on with your community and work with your team to redesign the infoboxes.

You can read more here in the forum (and head to the sandbox to give it a whirl), but the tl:dr version: our current infobox structure translates very poorly to mobile experiences, and mobile is where Wikia’s growth lies. We came up with a solution that will take a bit of effort, but will pay significant dividends in the near future. What we're hoping is that we can use this community to test out its strengths and limitations while we get it from “beta” to “full feature”.

What you get out of the deal:

  • Wikia engineers who will work directly with your community to update the code that underpins your infoboxes
  • Access to staff for feedback, and our promise that your ideas will be taken seriously
  • A head-start on this change and therefore a significant upgrade in your community’s visibility

What we get out of the deal:

  • Several fresh sets of eyes that can help us understand how this will be used by the average Wikian
  • A test community that will let us track how the new infobox structure is used by visitors and viewers
  • The opportunity to share this initiative’s successes (and failures, I’m sure!) with the wider Wikia community and show them that it’s a smart plan for our shared mobile future

Please talk this over with your admin team and let me know. I’m happy to answer any and all questions about this - please use my wall or just keep the conversation going here.

HP Wiki's Main Page

Hey, hey! With all the casting buzz starting for Fantastic Beasts, I noticed that the main page on Harry Potter hasn't been touched in a while (the featured article is for a Halloween thing from last year). Is there usually anyone (like an admin) that edits that page in particular? I think more people will be visiting the wikia as more news comes out about Fantastic Beasts or even random stuff like that Matthew Lewis photoshoot, and it would be good to keep the front page of the wikia looking fresh! If you don't mind, staff can help out every now and then to update parts of it, but I'd love to see it maintained by the community :) Grace @fandom (profile)•(talk) 15:46, June 2, 2015 (UTC)

Ok! You'll probably see some changes when new stuff comes out then :D Obviously you guys are free to edit anything we change, and I'm excited to see some activity pick up on the wikia again once more stuff comes out about the new movies! Grace @fandom (profile)•(talk) 20:57, June 2, 2015 (UTC)

Hey, Rick! I updated the main page with some new stuff, including a new poll, and I switched out the My Wikia promotion for images promoting the Harry Potter Wiki app! Again, you and the other admins can curate your app by going here. I'd love to get your input on other ways to promote the app to users on this community, so let me know what you think! Hello, there. On the wiki a lot of images. Almost all of them are not filled. The user Misskatniss1546 does not fill files. His files are in the templates: 12, 3 (Categories added Harry granger) and others.

You don't always fill files. Where to the templates: 1, 2? :)

If you want, I can take files to the wiki. I can fill them all :) Lord Vóldemort 07:12, June 9, 2015 (UTC)

Stray breaking space

Hey! I see you are a sysop on the wiki: I just thought you should know that, for some reason, there's a stray on Special:WikiActivity that is pushing things down. I assume this is some sort of custom JS code you've got here, but it's quite annoying as it breaks some of my own JS/CSS edits. I know it's not my own JS/CSS since it's not there on any other wiki, so hopefully this can be fixed.

As a random suggestion: you should consider removing some unnecessary JS from MediaWiki:Common.js: the code for AjaxRC can be imported with relative simplicity from the Developers Wiki, for example. Cheers! --SuperSajuuk Talk Page | Tabber Code | Channel 16:09, June 13, 2015 (UTC)

EDIT: A quick check of Common.js seems to be the cause. The fix would be to import the AjaxRC script as intended from Wikia Developers Wiki and remove the unnecessary code paste. --SuperSajuuk Talk Page | Tabber Code | Channel 16:20, June 13, 2015 (UTC)

New Infobox Feature Beta Testing

Apparently, Wikia wants us to help test out a new reworking of the infobox structure to make them more compatible with viewing on mobile devices. Was it all a dream?

So, was it--everything that happened from book 1 to 7--all a dream in Harry's head? This site seems to say it was, using quotes from J.K. Rowling herself, and also, it's purported as a possibility in part 2 of the last movie that it could've been -- ImperiexSeed, 12:41 AM, June 24th 2015

Video game infobox

Hello. Could you help me with something? I'm currently improving articles on Harry Potter videogames and each of its versions, and I've recently learned that the infobox template for video games is a protected template only admins can edit. I was planning to add headlines to inform previous and next titles in the game franchise ("preceded by" and "followed by"), like those found in the infobox for films. What do you think about it? In my opinion these additions would be good for the project. I'll be grateful if you decide to temporarily unprotect this infobox or alternatively add the suggested headlines by yourself. Thank you! - Esbonl (talk) 06:17, July 1, 2015 (UTC)

Portable Infoboxes

We’re reaching out to a few of our top communities, hoping to get you on board with the migration to the new infobox markup. And we have tools to help!

Why we’re doing this

Simply put: Most current infobox structure translates very poorly to mobile experiences, and indeed any device that doesn’t use desktop-style displays. On desktops and laptops, they often look amazing. The problem is that Wikia’s traffic is trending mobile.

There is an important graph from our forum post about infoboxes a couple weeks back, and I want to share it here as well:

File:Wikia mobile traffic growth.jpg

Mobile is the future. Not just for Wikia, but for the web as a whole. Take a look at the recent trends and future growth predictions for mobile traffic - it's staggering.

We partnered with the Wikia community to create this new markup to make sure that your hard work can be displayed on mobile devices (as well as any future technologies) easily and without any new coding conventions. It’ll take some effort up front, to be sure, but we’re here to help, and the work you put in now will pay for itself tenfold in the future.

Tools we’ve designed to ease the process

We’ve enabled two new features on your community. One is a tool for migrating the “old” infobox code to the new markup. It identifies templates on your wikia that look like infobox templates and places a box on the right rail of the template page. When you click the “Generate draft markup” button in this box, it opens a new tab containing a draft of your infobox using the new markup.

The second is a new feature on Special:Insights that will highlight which infoboxes on your wikia have not been migrated to the new infobox markup. It’s fairly intuitive - you can click on the infobox title link itself to see the old markup, or simply click the “Convert!” button on the right, which performs the same action as the “Generate draft markup” button.

This is our help page for the new markup. Please let me know if you have any further questions!

Regards Tom Riddle's gang /  Knights of Walpurgis.

I appreciate the name "Knights of Walpurgis" deserves a mention, as it was mentioned in an interview, but not as the article title, for the simple reason that it was JK's notes for OoP, she said "I don't know if I'll use it", and she then clearly didn't. I suggest including a section on it, as you already added, and further suggest adding a nod to it in the Infobox. It seems quite clear that the progression went "Tom Riddle's gang" (informal group, informal conjectural name), to "Knights of Walpurgis" (possible former name of Death Eater organization), to "the Death Eaters" - without any dates being given, except that we know Tom Riddle's gang informally got together in the early 40s, the name "Death Eaters" was in use by the early 70s. The Knights of Walpurgis may (or may not) have been a name used (in-world, I mean) at some or any point between those dates. Similarly, there's nothing special about 1945 that suggests a disbandment or change of name, as it's conjectured that they may have accompanied him to Albania et al. I think it's highly unlikely they did, but must admit there's nothing canonical that makes it absolutely clear that they didnt, and definitely nothing to suggest how organized they remained (or not) while Voldemort was travelling.  Vespamanda (talk) 09:51, September 1, 2015 (UTC)

About multilanguage:

Fact 1) Gilderoy Lockhart travels to faroff places.

Fact 2) He speaks to people from faroff places.

Fact 3) Surprisingly few faroff places have people who speak English very well or understand it.

Conclusion: To make himself understood, and to understand the descriptions given to him by more accomplished witches and wizards, he will have to speak in their language. Thus: He speaks in more languages than one.

About knowledge:

Fact 1) He meets accomplished witches and wizards.

Fact 2) He hear how they accomplished heroic deeds and how and in which way day used advanced magic.

Fact 3) He is a relentless self-promoter.

Conclusion: He knows much about advanced magic, he learned about it from the people from whom he stole the credit and claims the situations he used them in as his own doing. Thus: He knows about advanced magic, but is unable to use it because his a bad wizard, and therefore make referece to said advanced magic in his books, but present them at ill-fitting times in his eagerness for attention.

Where, I ask you, is the speculation? If I told you my name had began with A and ended in ndrew, you would not have 'speculated' on my name being Andrew, now would you? Ninclow 18:05, September 5, 2015 (UTC)

Could you possibly use your administrive powers to remove the category "Dark magic" from Loose Hand? (either that or I'm just too stupid to figure out how to delete it myself.) Hey man, I am reasonably new - about two weeks since I joined - to the Wiki (although I am definitely NOT new to Harry Potter) and (obviously) you are not. So I was just wondering what you have to do in order to earn a Prefect's Badge? It is a goal that I would very much like to accomplish but I'm not 100% sure on the requirements. I assume that it is just something noteworthy? Anyway, would love to hear back from you, love your work man, thanks.

ArrestoMomentum (talk) 02:53, October 21, 2015 (UTC) Hello Seth, I recently created a page called "List of Harry Potter characters (in the order that they are mentioned)" only to realise that this has already been done under a different name (character index). I was wondering if this page could be deleted by an admin like yourself as this page is obviously pointless seeing as there is a page exactly the same. Sorry for wasting your time, my sincerest apologies.

Hello Seth,

I saw a few days ago that the "Wizarding World of Harry Potter" needed a lot done to it (according to the box at the top of the page) so I went ahead and spent 3 hours or so touching it up and (hopefully) making the article of a higher standard. I know, though, that it still needs A LOT of work done to it - I feel as though a lot of new headings could be added to add much more detail and as I am very knowledgable in terms of Harry Potter, but especially in terms of the WWOHP, I feel as though I could definitely contribute to the article more. Basically, I would greatly appreciate if you could check the page out and maybe give me some feedback on what could be added as I am very willing to.

Thanks a lot - ArrestoMomentum

Hey Seth,

I am just wondering if there is any way to apply for an admin. I am aware that you must be very well-known and experienced to become an admin (I only have 234 edits), but it is a long-term goal that I would love to reach at some point in my life. I also feel as though the HPW could do with a few more admins, as you and a few others seem to be the only ones ever active out of the 30 or so that currently exist. I really appreciate what you have done for me and the rest of the HPW community, thanks a lot.

ArrestoMomentum (talk) 07:20, October 28, 2015 (UTC)

Ah! Thank you, these are my thoughts exactly. I will hopefully apply for admin when I am much more experienced in the Harry Potter Wiki community! And as for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter page, I have a LOT to add, thanks once again,

ArrestoMomentum (talk) 18:50, October 28, 2015 (UTC)

Hello again Seth!

I just had a couple of questions that I would really love to know the answer to (as I am only a few weeks old on this Wiki) and I thought, seeing as you know everything there is to know about the Harry Potter Wiki, I was wondering if maybe you could answer them?

1. I was wondering how you are able to get a cool signature, I looked around and it seems you need to know some sort of code? Just wondering if there's an easier way, thanks.

2. What exactly are the requirements to becoming a rollback user? I know that I am probably much too inexperienced to be that kind of user but, for the future (and becoming more knowledgeable), I would love to know! Thanks.

Please do let me know if you do not want to be messaged all the time by me, I am just very eager to learn more about the Wiki!

Thanks a lot, ArrestoMomentum (talk) 07:19, October 29, 2015 (UTC)

Hey Seth,

thanks for the advice on my signature, I love my new one! I was just wondering, as I am really enjoying editing on the Harry Potter Wiki, if there were any large editing jobs that you have wanted done for a long time that I could help with or do on my own? No worries if there are not, just though I'd ask in case.

Thanks as per usual -   ArrestoMomentum | talk  08:16, October 30, 2015 (UTC)

Hello again Seth,

I was just wondering whether you had any tips on achieving the goals that I have set out to achieve: Be awarded a Prefect's Badge, Become an Admin, Earn O.M. (First Class). I know that they are quite difficult to achieve but I am really enjoying being on the Harry Potter Wiki (you may have noticed!) and I feel as though at some point they may be possible. The main reason I came to you is because (obviously) you are very experienced and you have achieved every goal that I have set out to reach, so who better to ask?

As always, appreciate your contributions and help -   ArrestoMomentum | talk  04:17, November 1, 2015 (UTC)

Hey Seth,

I was just wondering if you could answer a question that I have concerning full stops. I have found that, when editing, often there are full stops after one sentence photo captions and also after quote descriptions.

Example: "When in doubt, go to the library." - Ron.

Now, I'm no English teacher but I do beleive that you are not supposed to have full stops in these specific cases and high quality articles like Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger seem to agree with me. I have been removing full stops in these cases for a few days now and I feel prepared to attempt to do this for every article if that is what you wish. If, for some reason, you would like the full stops to be put back, I am also happy to do so but I feel that this is unnecessary because, as I said before, all the featured articles do not feature full stops in these cases.

Ghost Plots

Hi Seth,

There is no separate entry for Ghost Plot and there should be. For obvious reasons, I should not be the one to do it, but I can give notes that may make it easier for someone else to do it.

Definition of Ghost Plot.

Difference between a remnant of a ghost plot and a red herring. Remnants of a ghost plot would exist in a book of the decision to remove the ghost plot was later in the process.

JKR said that when the plot was deemed too peripheral to the main story, it was removed for that reason. Was that the only reason?

Whether removing a ghost plot could have changed the main plot or whether only plots completely unrelated to the main plot were removed.

JKR said that when she said something in an interview that did not match the book, it was due to a ghost plot. Examples.

On the former JKR page, JKR said that she sacrificed Dean's backstory for Neville's (though she may have sacrificed that backstory later). Would that meet the definition of a ghost plot since the book does mention that Dean's father left when he was little and he doesn't know whether or not he was a wizard. JKR said that she originally planned to kill Arthur Weasley but changed her mind. Does that meet the definition of a ghost plot?

Ghost Plots offer a whole new venue for Theory and Fanon but for different reasons - it gives Fanon an alternate universe to fantasize about and theorists debates over whether some earlier clue was truly a red herring or the remnant of a removed Ghost Plot.

The last time I tried transferring Harry Potter quotes from the old computer to the net book via Hotmail, it took 5 hours and that was just half of the giant stuff (entry needs quotes and links) - that and I get dizzy off and on so it would be poorly written. Need to wait until Hotmail gets its act together before I get too deep into anything not to do with trying to get the first names together.

Before I discovered the talk page, put things that needed changing in the summary of edit section and just put a couple of dots so that it would go through. Most of that were names not in the disambiguation and I think that Bella directed to Bellatrix when there is a game character named Bella than needed to be fixed up. (Vaudree (talk) 07:59, November 11, 2015 (UTC))

Seth Cooper - is being a no-maj identical to being a muggle - or is no-maj the American term for both muggle and squib?

If it is the former, the entry is correct. If it is the latter, the entry needs to be changed. (Vaudree (talk) 10:59, November 22, 2015 (UTC))

The Fat Lady

I have been thinking - dangerous, I know! - but should we have another Fat Lady page? -- the one we have is about the portrait. We could have one about the human. We know she had graduated Hogwarts and died by 1970, that she was in Gryffindor and that she likes to drink and is fat and that, perhaps, she gave permission for her likeness to be used for the portrait. We have enough for an actual page for the actual character.

If not, I don't mind -- just tossing out ideas. That is how results/pages/stuff come around, right? --HarryPotterRules1 (talk) 21:48, November 28, 2015 (UTC)

That's fine with me -- I was just inquiring based on the fact we had two Dumbledore pages - human, portrait.--HarryPotterRules1 (talk) 22:37, November 29, 2015 (UTC)

Is there a reason why you are going around removing the Video Game Only category? Tepheris (talk) 23:46, December 11, 2015 (UTC)

Removing Video Game Only category.

I guess that after seeing your removal was as per wikia policy, I can't stay angry. Just please don't wreck my work and remove the "Attended Hogwarts during 1993-1994 school year" category. I'm trying to be CREATIVE and CLEVER here.

Tepheris (talk) 00:32, December 12, 2015 (UTC) RE:Removing Video Game Only category.Edit It's the first I'm hearing about that category, but I'd also advise against it. We already list Hogwarts students by year of Sorting (cf. Category:Individuals by year of Sorting), and such a category would be arbitary and redundant IMO. -- Seth Cooper owl post! 00:23, December 12, 2015 (UTC)

It may SEEM arbitrary and redundant, but as I said, I'm trying to be CREATIVE and CLEVER here. Since you want categories to be "in-universe", "Attended Hogwarts during 1993-1994 school year" is a way of saying that a character appears in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (video game) (PS2 version only) under those guidelines. Tepheris (talk) 00:32, December 12, 2015 (UTC)

Erm, no it isn't. Eloise Midgen, for example, was attending Hogwarts in 1993-1994, and she didn't make an appearance in any of the video games. -- Seth Cooper owl post! 00:35, December 12, 2015 (UTC)

...Hmm, no template for a Howler within a talk page. It is if the category is only added to characters who appear in video games. Are you diametrically opposed to there being a way to distinguish characters from video games? You know, if you had just waited until tomorrow, Sunday at the latest, to start deleting the category Video Game Only, or even if I could be sure that I wasn't adding a duplicate character into the table with the List of Known Gryffindors/Hufflepuffs/Ravenclaws/Slytherins this wouldn't have been a big deal.

Umm, I'm REALLY sorry about all that. I had a bad day at work and I kinda lost it when I saw my work go down the drain. I've found a solution that is actually faster, taking the List of Known Gryffindors/Hufflepuffs/Ravenclaws/Slytherins and then taking a list of ALL members of selected House, use the Excell spreadsheet MATCH, and presto, all Students that are members of that house are visible. So yeah, I really acted like a prat, and again apologize. --  Tepheris |Lenom animated avatar by tepheris|  Send Patronus  22:50, December 15, 2015 (UTC)Tepheris (talk) 02:21, December 12, 2015 (UTC) I was sure I left the tildes behind.

As for your "List of Known Gryffindors/Hufflepuffs/Ravenclaws/Slytherins" -- how would I be supposed to know anything about that? An article just to hold a list of the sort would be pointless anyway (and undoubtedly deleted on the spot), since we already have categories for that effect (cf. Category:Gryffindors, Category:Ravenclaws, Category:Hufflepuffs, Category:Slytherins).

—Seth Cooper[[talk|[src]]]

Have you checked the Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slytherin pages recently? That's how you are supposed to know something about them. There are nice and handy tables listing more than half of the individuals listed in the Category pages you deemed sufficient. Judging by the way you thought that the List, which I later referred to as a table which might have refreshed your memory, would be "deleted on the spot".

Also, give me one good reason why you deleted my category of Hogwarts students where the only year they are confirmed to have attended Hogwarts was the 1993-1994 year? I could buy having a category 'Video Game Only' was against the sites policies, but "Students Only known to have attended Hogwarts during 1993-1994 school year" certainly was "in-universe". So on top of there being Category:Non-canonical_characters, and at the glance at least Kellah seems to qualify as canon from the guidelines of this site, I am left to conclude that either "Students Only known to have attended Hogwarts during 1993-1994 school year" was not worded clearly enough (giving you the benefit of the doubt here), anyone who does not have Admin/Moderator/Bureaucrat privileges will have additions they make deleted, or for some unfathomable reason you take the site guidelines to the extreme that any attempt to make a category that distinguishes between different media must be deleted, regardless of how "in-universe" the category is. You know, I initially included the third possibility as a joke, but after I thought for a moment, this seemed a slightly larger possibility. I was going to make a retort that a Wikia is an online encyclopedia and not the Bible, but then I reminded myself that EVEN THE BIBLE HAS EXHAUSTIVE CONCORDANCES. So again in conclusion, I'm guessing that "Students Only known to have attended Hogwarts during 1993-1994 school year" was not clearly worded enough. Tepheris (talk) 20:39, December 13, 2015 (UTC)

Your category of "Hogwarts students only known to have attended Hogwarts in the 1993-1994 school year" was deleted for a number of reasons. First, it was not grouping articles together on what their subjects themselves have in common, but on our knowledge (or in this case, limited knowledge) of them.

—Seth Cooper[[User talk:Tepheris|[src]]]

I honestly thought that the third explanation for deletion was the least likely, but that seems to be my luck nowadays. Well, on the bright side, I get to explain what I meant in my previous post.

..or for some unfathomable reason you take the site guidelines to the extreme that any attempt to make a category that distinguishes between different media must be deleted, regardless of how "in-universe" the category is.

—The Eccentric Tepheris-sama[[User talk:Seth Cooper|[src]]]

What I meant was that you seem to be treating the categories as something sacred instead of as a way to make referencing and organizing the pages of this on this Wikia. Well Seth, there are books called Exhaustive Concordances that list every word in The Bible, so please take a moment and get off your high horse and, once I come up with an unambiguous, clear title for a category. Besides if you would take a moment to read the site Policy on Style:

For the sake of consistency, all articles written about people, places, or things within the Harry Potter Universe have to be written from an "in-universe" perspective rather than from a "real world" perspective: for example, "Alicia Spinnet was a Chaser in the first five books" should be changed to "Alicia Spinnet was a Chaser from 1991 to 1996". This rule naturally does not apply for subjects outside the Harry Potter Universe, like J.K. Rowling, Bloomsbury, and the different books and films. Subjects that exist both in the real world and in the HP Universe should be written about from an in-universe perspective (e.g. London, Nicolas Flamel, etc.).

—Official Site Policy[[src]]

You might have missed the distinction, don't feel bad, I missed it too on my initial viewing, the whole "in-universe" policy applies to ARTICLES. In no place does it mention that EVERYTHING needs to be written "in-universe".

Secondly, it's redundant, for the reasons I have already pointed out to you (we already list Hogwarts students by year of Sorting).

—Seth Cooper[[User talk:Tepheris|[src]]]

Seth, Seth, Seth. While there is a category Sorted in the 20th century true, but that category can span multiple generations. The students in my category are unknown if they were Sorted in the 1980s or 1990s., or Sorted in the 1990s.

Thirdly, it still doesn't manage to reach your goal of grouping together articles on students from the video games (there are numerous other individuals that would qualify as "students only known to have attended Hogwarts in 1993-1994" that weren't in the video games: you named one yourself, Kellah; Derek, Michael McManus, Pike also come to mind).

—Seth Cooper[[User talk:Tepheris|[src]]]

Those probably weren't the exact wording of the description I put on the category page, but they were close.

  • Kellah's page lists her as having begun Hogwarts in 1991. That means we know another year besides 1993-1994 where she attended Hogwarts.
  • Derek is stated to have started Hogwarts beginning in 1993. We have his first year, therefore we can assume with a fair amount of certainty that he attended Hogwarts after the 1993-1994 school year. And therefore, we know another year besides 1993-1994 where he attended Hogwarts.
  • Michael McManus Says that he must have been at least in his second year in 1993 since he was on the Hufflepuff Quidditch team. Therefore he attended Hogwarts during the 1992-1993, therefore we know another year besides 1993-1994 where he attended Hogwarts.
  • Pike The first sentence in his Biography says he began his education at Hogwarts in 1991, Therefore, we know 2 years besides 1993-1994 where he attended Hogwarts.

Fourth, it was arbitrary and unnecessary, and it doesn't fit the category tree.

—Seth Cooper[[User talk:Tepheris|[src]]]

Uh, you mentioned the arbitrary and unnecessary part, so the only point you seem to made that I can't poke holes in is that the page probably doesn't meet the Category Tree

Tepheris (talk) 22:57, December 14, 2015 (UTC) I keep on forgetting that

Arguing semantics? Really? You're going to be THAT guy right now? Well, I don't know why I didn't see this coming earlier. I mean, if there's one thing I have to commend you for, it's being open enough to warn anyone who checks your user page that you're a(n internet) troll with the website privileges of a bureaucrat.

Do you honestly think I would not know that a student in the 1993-1994 school year would either have attended Hogwarts during the 1992-1993 school year OR they would have attended Hogwarts during the 1994-1995 school year, and that there would probably be plenty of students who attended Hogwarts both before and after? Well, I guess it could go the other way with you not being bright enough to come to the proper interpretation. So I'm left to ponder whether I should feel insulted, call you on being childish, or call in to question your capacity to have administrator level editing privileges in an encyclopedia.

And another thing. I noticed something on your profile. Nice Prefect Badge. But I couldn't help but find the description FASCINATING.

That settled me down a surprising amount. Sorry for letting my temper out, I just get really passionate about matters that I invest my time in. Okay, maybe if I explained my logic you'll see that I used ironic properly given my flaw assumption that anyone who gets awarded the Prefect badge under the guidelines mentioned on the template page is automatically nominated for admin position. If the Prefect badge was what got you made admin, which you were awarded For excellent work in splitting up the Non-Canonical Spells page., getting into this discussion because you deleted a category for not being "in-universe" enough.

Your category of "Hogwarts students only known to have attended Hogwarts in the 1993-1994 school year" was deleted for a number of reasons. First, it was not grouping articles together on what their subjects themselves have in common, but on our knowledge (or in this case, limited knowledge) of them.

User:Seth Cooper[[User talk:Tepheris|[src]]]

Okay, if that was your first (and most people either make this or the last reason as the most important reason, and since the last in this case was mainly a recapitulation, I'm assuming this was the case), then can you explain to me why this category has more than just Alastor Moody and Mundungus Fletcher in it, hmmmmm?

Hey Seth!

I'm finally back after school exams and I am very excited to do a lot for the Wiki over the course of my seven week holiday. I just had a quick question - before I left for exams I requested rollback rights and (since I haven't had a reply yet) I wondered if no one had seen it? I understand that you must be very busy but I just thought that I'd let you know incase you missed it.

Really appreciate what you're doing,

  ArrestoMomentum | talk  19:08, December 14, 2015 (UTC)

Hey Seth!

I'm sorry to bother you, but I have a rather important question concerning school student articles. Whenever I come across an article on a student the first line tends to be "Harry Potter was a Gryffindor student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the 1990's" (the name, house, school, and year are interchangeable). Now, I'm not sure if it's just me, but I believe that it is more formal and more gramatically correct to switch the "at" for "who attended". I have started changing some of them already and (with your consent) I hope to change every student article to that same format tomorrow and in days to come in the near future. Another reason that I think this change is necessary is because the other way student articles tend to start is with "Harry Potter began attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1991". Seeing as the second opening sentence has "attend" as a key word, I feel as though the articles as a whole will tie in together nicely if the other opening sentence has "attend" in it too. I would love to know your thoughts on this matter - whether you think it's necessary or not and whether I should continue to change the wording. If you feel this is highly unnecessary then please let me know and I will undo all of my changes immediately.

Thanks for your help as always,

  ArrestoMomentum | talk  06:09, December 19, 2015 (UTC)

Ah, yes! I see where you're coming from but I am still sort of unsure with what you would like me to do, shall I change them all to the 'who attended' or should I change the ones I have already changed back to 'at'.

Thanks for the help,

  ArrestoMomentum | talk  02:44, December 20, 2015 (UTC)

Thanks, I guess that seeing as you're the more experienced editor, I will go with your word and leave them all as 'at'. I will have to change a few back though.

  ArrestoMomentum | talk  02:53, December 20, 2015 (UTC)

I think that seeing as the other articles use 'at' it is only fitting that the changed articles have the same format. Obviously, for the good of the Wiki, I am prepared to spend a bit of time changing them back.

My apologies for changing them in the first place,

  ArrestoMomentum | talk  03:01, December 20, 2015 (UTC)

Hey Seth,

I was just wondering, seeing that it is likely that I will not get selected as a rollback user, how long one must wait before reapplying? Thanks a lot for your help as always, I honestly do really appreciate your work.

  ArrestoMomentum | talk  08:26, December 20, 2015 (UTC)

P.S. I just reached 1000 edits and I was wondering if you have to apply for O.M. or something? Thanks a lot.

Wow! Thank you very much, I am very grateful for that! I was just wondering if there is a way to transport the award to my main page? On the reapplying business, I guess waiting a week or so is necessary so I'll do that. I just have one last question, do other users have to actually go onto the Requests for Permissions page or do they get a notification that there is a vote being held? Because I guess it is kind of hard to accumulate votes if no one looks at the page in the first place, especially seeing as there are not many experienced users who are active.

Anyway, thanks for the help as always and if we don't speak until then, Merry Christmas!

Thank you so much! –   ArrestoMomentum | talk  09:08, December 21, 2015 (UTC)

Fair enough. I do see where you're coming from - I merely feel as if I won't be more ready for the job in the near future. I guess I should try and become more well-known throughout the community before attempting to apply again. Is there a suggested time frame?

Thanks for the advice,

Hey Seth,

I just had question concerning honorifics. On the Wiki, a lot of articles tend to have 'Mr.' or 'Mrs.'. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that British honorifics are supposed to be written without a period, for example, 'Mr' or 'Mrs'. I was just wondering, seeing as British spellings are used on the Wiki, if I should change these honorifics whenever I see them? I know that it probably isn't high priority, but I guess it doesn't hurt to change it when you see it.

Thanks for the help,

GBC and gba version students/Music

I haven´t played the game myself, but I seem to remember from a video that there were more students, most notably, two unidentified Gryffindor boys that do not seem to fit the description of Seamus and Dean. Should we create articles on every single student in the entire game?

About Hufflupuff James: I own the German version of this book, and I think German law does not allow me to upload it.

Though there is one thing that may interest you. On the page about Flitwick in the book, it says that, according to Warwick Davies, Flitwick is also Professor of magical music, teaching the choir. You are getting father and son mixed up. The Father was Drakul, the son was Drakula (meaning, among other things, son of Drakul). Wiki maintenance

Hi there. I am just wondering if there is any specific maintenance tasks that need to be done on the wiki. I've been looking around and notice a lot of problems, ranging from plainly bad file names and poor formatting of pages in general. I accept that this would take a long time due to the large amount of content present here, have you any suggestions about what kind of maintenance I could do to help the wiki? --Sajuuk 09:58, January 29, 2016 (UTC)

Okay, cool! I will be using w:c:dev:FileUsageAuto-update to update file names: before I use that, do I have the permission to do that? Or will it be against the wiki policy?
Unfortunately, it appears those with no user rights are not able to move file names. If I have permission to update file names, it may be appropriate to add the Content Moderators user flag to my account, as this would give the ability to move files and suppress the redirect that would be left behind.
Also, in addition to that, what would you like me to do about any files that are not in use on a page? Should I tag them for deletion as "unused, non-free image"?
On a side note, I did notice that an awful lot of users seem to have rollback, but haven't edited in a very long time. I do not know what the wiki's policy is on this, but it might be a good idea to remove rollback from those who have not edited here in a long time. But it's up to you how you want to do that :P --Sajuuk 15:26, January 31, 2016 (UTC)
Re: Rights. I put in a request for permissions on the page you linked, hopefully that will turn out okay. :)
Re: Files. Okay, that's fine. If it's HP related, I'll leave it be, but will tag any non-HP unused files for deletion.
Re: Inactives. I'll post a thread on the forum in a few days, just so people don't think I'm trying to come here and make a bunch of changes without having been a member for a while :P --Sajuuk 18:39, January 31, 2016 (UTC)
Seems the request for permissions died out (not seen anyone else post on the topic), though it did get support. Not sure what the procedure is on the wiki, but just letting you know :P --Sajuuk 14:55, February 9, 2016 (UTC)
It appears the perms request has largely got support (even if only two supports). Not sure if there's a period of time that needs to pass before the request can be closed down, but hopefully soon the rights can be added (not trying to appear like I'm desperate for the rights though :P) --Sajuuk 16:23, February 15, 2016 (UTC)

Could you fix Isobel MacDougal so that Katrina MacDougal redirects there? Someone mistakenly put Katherine but it is Katrina.

Also, someone put that Fred Weasley's middle name was Gideon. I don't remember Fred having a middle name. I am not changing it because it could be new information that I donèt know about, but it could also be fanfic - not intentional but you know. (Vaudree (talk) 07:41, February 5, 2016 (UTC))

Mountains of the Moon

Hi :) Mountains of the Moon were confirmed by Pottermore to be the home of Uagandou. JKR precised Uagandou is located in Uganda. According to Wikipedia, the idendity of "Mountains of the Moon" are not sure in real life. But since we are supposed to write the pages from the POV of the universe, I wrote the page like that. So, my request: can you check if everything is okay, please? :) First time I write a page like that so I'd like to be sure if everything is okay :) Lady Junky 22:23, January 30, 2016 (UTC)

Thank you! Lady Junky 22:54, January 30, 2016 (UTC)

Hey! Me again. Sorry to bother you but can you do something for this guy please? Either he keeps adding wrong info or he trolls Uagadou's page :/ Lady Junky 02:44, February 1, 2016 (UTC)

Hello Seth, maybe you´d like to have a look at the Forum I created.

RE: Dolores Umbridge

Thanks for stepping in, and providing a reason for removing HarryPotterRules1's addition to the page. I had a feeling it may have been faulty reasoning, but I wasn't sure how to counter the reasoning myself. ― C.Syde (talk | contribs) 04:53, February 13, 2016 (UTC)

Hi! I noticed that most, if not all, of the article talkpages don't appear to be archived. I was wondering if the ArchiveTool script could be enabled on the wiki? This would make it easier to archive talkpages, but it would require contacting Wikia to enable the DynamicPageList extension (as it requires some templates to work properly). If this isn't possible, let me know, thanks! :) --Sajuuk 11:54, February 13, 2016 (UTC)

Bumping this request (also, apologies if I sent a lot of notifications your way recently! was cleaning up wantedpages and quite a few of the redlinks were on your talkpage :P).
(EDIT: You might want to consider archiving your talkpage as editing the whole article as one crashes my browser). --Sajuuk 16:22, February 15, 2016 (UTC)

Wizarding World

I was thinking perhaps the Wizarding World of Harry Potter page could be updated with more information from the Japan and Hollywood versions is there a user you could recommend for such an update? There are no strings on me (talk) 20:08, February 13, 2016 (UTC)

The Harry Potter page itself

There seems to have been heavy traffic for the last couple of days. Perhaps an Admin should check up on the changes? {{SUBST:User:Jiskran/Signature}} 00:17, February 15, 2016 (UTC)
