Brockdale Bridge

You tell me to use I am...

The Brockdale Bridge according to line 5 of page 2 of chapter 1 of the book The Half Blood Prince (thus HIGHER CANON than the movie, according to YOUR EXAMPLE number 3 mentioned under the Canon policy) states that when the Brockdale Bridge collapsed, dozens of CARS fell into the river. It does not mention what type of cars, either automobile cars or several of the individual train "cars" (like Box Cars), but I assume automobile, as train cars are not usually considered "cars" in British English, only in American English.

However...The Millennium Bridge, is a PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE only. The official name of the Millennium Bridge is in fact, THE LONDON MILLENNIUM FOOTBRIDGE. Thus IN NO WAY WHAT SO EVER could "dozens of cars" have fallen into the river bellow.

THUS ACCORDING TO CANON...THE BROCKDALE BRIDGE IS NOT THE MILLENNIUM BRIDGE. AND THUS ANY CORRELATION MADE BY DAVID YATES DOES NOT APPLY. Thus (even after the movie) we DO NOT KNOW if the bridge was in London, NOR if it even spanned the Thames. Thus I was trying to state this, that there is NO PROVEN CORRELATION between the two bridges, and that the website must be changed which states in the affirmative that it IS in the EXACT spot that the current Millennium Bridge stands. WE DO NOT KNOW THIS EITHER THROUGH JKR, THROUGH THE BOOKS, or even THROUGH THE MOVIE. WE ONLY KNOW THAT IN THE BOOKS, IT WAS A BRIDGE. WE ALSO KNOW THAT IN THE MOVIE, DAVID YATES and the SPECIAL EFFECTS crew choose to destroy the Millennium Bridge as it would have the HIGHEST VISUALLY DRAMATIC destruction than of ANY BRIDGE IN THE WHOLE UNITED KINGDOM, since it is KNOWN WORLD WIDE, and is also ABOUT 10 YEARS OLD (the only actual similarity to the book). And this is what I wrote. But no, you think you are ALL KNOWING, because you are the moderator of some stupid website. I came across your website and saw the discrepancies and thought that I would help (that what a wiki site is, the most accurate information IMPROVABLE by all who read it), but you would prefer to have FALSE information on your supposedly "accurate" website. If I were the owners of wikipedia I would actually sue you for not actually allowing what it is you are claiming to be.

SO GOOD LUCK trying to make your website a reputable Harry Potter encyclopedia, when you purposefully pass FALSE INFORMATION on to your readers. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talkcontribs).

Re: Brockdale Bridge

Ok, I updated it again using YOUR logic, that the picture does in fact prove that the "Brockdale Bridge" of the movie is not one in the same as the "Brockdale Bridge" of the book. DO NOT DELETE MY EDITS AGAIN!! This is just plain harassment, and I DO NOT see how any sane person could have promoted you to Administrator of this site if you do change it. I HAVE FOLLOWED EVERY RULE OF THIS SITE TO TRY AND CORRECT THE PROBLEMS LISTED ON THE BROCKDALE BRIDGE PAGE, I used higher canon (THE BOOK ITSELF, I EVEN QUOTED IT), and yet you still think that since you have over 7,000 postings and that you are an Administrator that you think that there is NO WAY THAT THE FREAKING MOVIE COULD POSSIBLY BE WRONG!! WELL IT IS!! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talkcontribs).

Re: Brockdale Bridge

If you are not trying to "insert false information on articles" as you put it, then why change what I write.

"3. In the Goblet of Fire film, Krum attacks Fleur in the Maze during the Triwizard Tournament. Is this considered canon? No, because the books, a higher source of canon, specifically states that Crouch/Moody did it. However, it should be noted in the Behind the scenes section."

This is from the official policy on canon. It states that the Books have the higher canon over the movie, and any discrepancies should be noted in the "Behind the scenes section." So that is what I did, I stated what the book states, and then showed the discrepancies from the movie. You state that the book left many things out and the movie filled in the gaps, but as I have proven several times over (yet you keep deleting it) is that the bridge used in the film directly contradicts the book's description of the book. If the bridge then from the movie is describing one bridge, yet the book describes a whole other bridge, then the movie MUST be wrong according to the canon policy. Thus any inferences from the movie about the bridge are therefore wrong. You can not infer that the Brockdale bridge from the book is in London because the movie destroys a bridge in London.

I will now prove my point...(SO DO BE SURE TO READ THIS PORTION FULLY, DO NOT SKIM)..The movie destroys (use simple high school math) a 13 ft wide bridge. This can be proven to be 13 ft wide by taking the measurement of the width of the bridge, now compare that measurement to the distance away from the St. Paul's cathedral (which you yourself said is the st. paul's cathedral. Now compare these two measurements via a ratio of the ACTUAL measurements, and tada the bridge in the movie is 13 ft wide. Now the book specifically states that Cars fell from the bridge when the death eaters destroyed it. ALSO from the movie, we can see that the SOUTH end of the bridge splits in two making the walkways even narrower, thus there are portions of the bridge that are even less than 13 ft across. Now...just talking theoreticals now, what is THE SMALLEST car you can think of, you are probably thinking a MiniCooper. Well, Minis, measure 6 ft wide, thus even if it were a road bridge, with the smallest car in existence, there will be only 1 ft of clearance between the bridge and car one, car one and car two (going the opposite direction), and car two and the bridge, thus dividing equally by 3, there is only 4 inches of clearance on either side of the vehicle. Now for building regulations of 1985 (when the Brockdale bridge was supposed to have been built) a road bridge of this length would be required to be at least twice as wide as the one depicted in the movie, yet again proving that the bridge from the movie is a pedestrian bridge, contradicting the book.

Also, using your own statements and logic. The building in the back of the picture of the "brockdale bridge" from the movie IS St. Paul's Cathedral. How do we know this? Never was St. Paul's ever mentioned in ANY of the books. You mentioned the Tower Bridge, how do we know it is the Tower Bridge? It was never mentioned in ANY of the books. Obviously you are using ACTUAL, real life, London landmarks for your determinations. Well, now I get to use an actual London landmark for mine...since the bridge depicted in the movie is a pedestrian bridge, yet the bridge in the book is a road bridge, then I know that the movie IS NOT depicting Brockdale Bridge, thus it MUST be depicting MIllennium Bridge. Since the movie is depicting the Millennium Bridge I know that the movie is set in a year after 2000 (and in fact, you can see a small portion of 30 St Mary Axe (The Gherkin/the bullet looking building) in the movie as well, which was completed in December 2003 (it had no cranes in the vicinity of the building, thus it must have been completed, and not still under construction (which started in 2001)) , which narrows it even more to at the earliest about 2004), and that, then, the skyline, the river, and all the landmarks used in the film IN NO WAY tell me where the Brockdale Bridge is, how long it is, how big it is, what it is made of (other than rusting metal as determined from page 12 line 14 of HBP book), if it is in the middle of a city or on the outskirts. Using ALL canon of official Harry Potter depictions, I KNOW that the Brockdale bridge IS a bridge, and spanned a river. I also know that it DID NOT span the exact spot that the millennium bridge spans today, because the movie takes place "today" not in 1996 as it should, (I can also prove this using automobiles in the background from earlier films either when they fled the train station heading for Ron's flying car, or when they crossed the street heading for the Sirius' house, how could they be in 1991-1996 in the various movies, yet have cars that were created in the late 1990s and early 2000s). Thus the timelines FROM THE MOVIES are "present" not 13 years in the past as they should compared to the books.

Now how much more proof do I need to show you for you to allow me to change "The Brockdale Bridge was a bridge located in London. It crossed the River Thames; it stood where the Millennium Bridge stands today." to "The Brockdale Bridge was a bridge spanning an unknown river." Since that is the truth. What is currently stated on the page is fanon from some fan claiming that what they see is London, when we have no proof of that, since the books never mentioned St. Pauls or Tower Bridge, so for all we know, we could be in Little Whinging, or near Devon, or any of the many other places already visted in the previous 5 books. Thus the canon is that Brockdale Bridge is over an unknown river, the fanon is that it is in the exact place the Millennium Bridge stands today, was built to look exactly as the Millennium Bridge looks, and thus spans the Thames and is thus in London. EVEN FROM THE MOVIES we DO NOT know this!! So stop changing my posts when you know that I am right. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talkcontribs).

Re: Brockdale Bridge

Ok, I changed it again...if you don't like the way I worded the "Behind The Scenes" then you can change the wording, I only put those there to prove my point to you, but now I have done it even more, so again, if you don't like the way in which I tried to prove my point in the "Behind the Scenes" then change it, but the facts about the bridge at the top are correct!! So please, don't just completely revert the page, just change the "Behind the Scenes"!! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talkcontribs).

  • This guy is right. That's clearly the Milennium Bridge, and the Milennium appears in the film and video game, not the Brockdale. If there's a historic landmark that's not clearly named to be something else in the film, then its the real-life landmark. 14:36, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
    • There is no way of proving that it is or is not the Brockdale Bridge, but since it is clearly the Milennium Bridge, and that it has notable differences expressed above from the Brockdale Bridge, it is not the Brockdale Bridge!!! I was thinking of joining this wiki, but you, like on other wikis, seem to be the idiotic, "I KNOW EVERYTHING" admins I usually have to deal with. 14:47, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

Hey Seth, I have a question. Why can't you edit a certain section of an article anymore? Why do you have to hit the "Edit this page" button and find the section you want to edit? Re: Bob Odgen

Thanks for clearing up my confusion about the illustration of Morfin Gaunt. • File:WizardsPepperupPotion.jpg — I found another version of this portrait in which the text is clearer. The text on the right looks like "Mirabile Vita" or "Mirabile Viva," both of which mean "wonderful life" in Latin, I believe. As for the text on the left, I also have trouble making it out, but the first part looks like it might be "Emma" or "Erma," and second part looks like it begins with "Sol-" or "Sak-" and ends with "-berg" or "-bury". I also think the character is a witch, rather than a wizard, given that the veil she's wearing.

I brought this issue up with Matoro and he suggested I take this up with someone who took part in the original discussion. it appears that the Death Eaters who took part in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries have been incorrectly identified.
