Hey - saw your message to Seth so figured I'd offer up a quick reply. To edit a page in Source mode you can choose that option from the Down Arrow next to the Edit button. If you want this as your default editor, click your avatar in the upper right, choose My Preferences - Editing - Preferred Editor - Source editor. Once you are used to wikitext, Source editing is by far the best choice as the Visual Editor has many bugs and limitations. Hope this helps! Cheers --Ironyak1 (talk) 23:25, November 13, 2018 (UTC)

Re: Hey! AKA edit recommendations

Sup? Unfortunately, no articles particularly needing spellchecks comes to mind, probably because I personally focus on formatting issues. That being said, to avoid excessive User namespace edits, there's other options aside from the obvious main namespace editing, such as the regular Talk pages and Files.

For Talks, I'm assuming you read the UK editions (if not, owells lol), so perhaps you can share some insight on Talk: Hot chocolate and Talk: Telephone booth (the second talk, check the last portion)

For Files, I think the most no brainer task is to help sorting out GIFs. Previously I used a script to mass relocate GIFs for the 4-6th films from the general "images from HP and the [...]" category so they can be more quickly found. Annoying a certain user aside (which was quite justified), I also realized some images need further proper categorization (missing categories or having redundant categories), so if anyone's up to it, manually checking Category:Images from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (film) to weed out applicable files to relocate to Category:GIFs from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (film), would be appreciated.

Alternatively, there's also the more random task of ridding the 3 categories from images that contain all three Category:Images of Harry Potter, Category:Images of Hermione Granger, and Category:Images of Ron Weasley, and switch them to simply Category:Images of the Trio. There's no way that category should contain that little number of files, people just simply didn't correctly use it. Personally I have no idea how to find images in this situation, so I just tackle it whenever I see it.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Good luck with reducing the User namespace editing percentage! =D --Sammm✦✧(talk) 21:27, January 19, 2019 (UTC)

Hey there! Thanks for the input on the Talk pages!
As for the GIFs; before talking about "a hidden uncomplicated trick to relocating files" (which may earn you the ire from another user;) I'll dissuade you from "[giving me] a list of the lot" lol. The whole point is to also help you to decrease your User namespace editing percentage, if I ended up being the one performing the changes, it wouldn't help you one bit, I'm afraid. =/
For the "not quick way", for example, when I look at Category:Images from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (film), the first GIFs I see are File:20110806-js-hppoa-bombarda.gif, File:20110806-js-hppoz-lumos-maxima.gif, and File:20110824-js-hppoa-aresto-momentum.gif. The first file is unlike the other 2, because it also lacks additional categories (images of Harry, Hermione). I think the most organized way is to quickly click to view all GIFs in "cat images from HP&POA", and note them in two batches, a] for ones needing additional editing (adding/removing categories), b] for ones good to go (no additional changes needed). Then for a], you then go through them whenever you have time to adjust them accordingly.
Now, for b], that's likely when most suitable to use "a hidden uncomplicated trick to relocating files", and you can read through User talk:Esbonl#Consideration of installing scripts? for how to achieve that. While I won't discourage you from installing it, since I myself used it before having the additional User Right, and even recommended it to other users as seen above, I think I'll also need to make you aware of the possible talk-down you may receive if using the script, as happened in User talk:Sammm鯊/Archive1#Your numerous automatic edits. To be clear, I think if you aren't doing it in obvious bulk, (like relocating 50+ files at once), perhaps you won't be on the radar of this user. I honestly have no clue.
I mean, I think it's only fair to let you know the whole picture, less I caused you some attention you might not want. I feel like, if you feel that doing b], while way quicker to improve your editing percentage, is too complicated and too much drama, a] is always a safe bet. It's tedious, but I think fixing an image is probably less time-consuming than proof-reading an entire article. (That's just me though, do whatever you're most comfortable with!) =D Good luck!
On a different note, I found another "relatively no-brainer" type of fixing that needed to be done, but I figured one thing at a time. If the above task isn't to your liking and you are interested to know, then let me know lol.
P.S.: Oh, yeah, I always feel slightly awkward when being the first one to leave a message onto a Talk page after its previous content being just archived, but hey, someone has to start lol. It's absolutely allowed, no worries. xD
P.P.S.: The 4th "~" in the signature is the timestamp, so people can know (in comparison) what time the message was left, without having to check the history. --Sammm✦✧(talk) 19:47, January 21, 2019 (UTC)
Oh hey! I'm not sure if phrasing it as "installing" can be misleading, if anything, you don't have to "download" anything. It's just copy-and-paste the script onto either w:Special:MyPage/global.js or Special:MyPage/common.js, bypass your browser's cache, then you are good to go, all done on your browser. IDK if operating on Linux would make a difference. But yeah, it's not for everyone.
I think if you want to weigh your options, the "relatively no-brainer" type of fixing I mentioned above can narrow down your search a bit, though again, it's tedious and you don't have to do it if you don't like it lol. Special:Contributions/Hobbiton777, filter it so it'll only show the main namespace edits, and look for the ones that are labeled N. This user has been actively creating articles on cast members. Per HPW's policies, those pages do deserve to exist, however, they are created in a way that, perhaps due to being mass-created, they are all missing the general required format, {{Actor infobox}}, and a lot of the times, the needed "Notes and references" section with {{Reflist}} to show citation.
Also, I don't know if the user is just copying from a an existing page to change respective details for all the pages (name/image/role), but a lot of the articles on actors and actresses created by the user are described as "British", which, I have found a few, that aren't true. Previously I browsed through Category:Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald actors and verify actors with names that to me looks less "commonly English" (no idea how to describe it), and if proved to be actually of a different nationality, I'd then proceed to add the missing formatting and correct the info. That's just me being selective and not having time to correct every page, but overall, I believe all actor articles need the infobox regardless of having errors or not.
If you are at it, should {{IMDb name}} be used, it'll also be helpful to help switch it to {{IMDb}}. This edit is an example, basically change " name|" to "|nm" in front of the numerals, and get rid of the pipe and the respective actor name that's after the numerals.
And don't worry about the ~ (I appreciate you adding it!) I mentioned it because I remember you asking me about it in chat, I told you to use 4 of them without providing why, figured to let you know before I forget about it lol. --Sammm✦✧(talk) 22:44, January 21, 2019 (UTC)
Well, that's hard to say, you can always see the total number of pages in a category when you are on the said category page, but out of how many of them are needing fixing, is anyone's guess. I said "can narrow down your search a bit", because at least you wouldn't have to go through "16,000 pages" to find what to fix, as you've put. lol
So far, so good! =D Keep up the great work! (I also forgot to add, if you choose to continue to work on actor articles, and they are clearly lacking more details, also add {{Actor-stub}} onto the page, so other people can know those pages can be expanded. You don't have to go back to the ones you've already fixed, but just remember the option of adding them in the future.) =]
--Sammm✦✧(talk) 19:08, January 23, 2019 (UTC)
Awww, I wish you the best! RL is important! Good luck! =D
I've replied at Talk:Wizarding idioms, though I'm not sure if I've explained clearly. I hope you won't be offended by the following examples, I'm using them because they are the equivalent I'm able to think of without needing altercations.
  • “How in the name of Merlin’s pants have you managed to get your hands on those Horcrux books?” ≈ “How in the name of Jesus Christ [...]”
  • “Like committing murder and cutting off people’s ears, I suppose! Snape, Headmaster! Snape in Dumbledore’s study – Merlin’s pants!” ≈ “[...] – Jesus Christ!
In the two occasions above, sure, both "Merlin’s pants" (interchangeable with "Jesus Christ") are used, but they are used in different ways. If anything, I actually think the "Merlin's beard" would be more suitable to be incorporated with the "Galloping gargoyles" lot, as they are all "expressing outraged shock", then again, they are quite different even though they express the same thing.
(I'm posting the above directly to you, because I have no idea how many people are viewing the Talk page, and I know some people can be sensitive when it comes to names of religious figures. I mean no disrespect and while some may not like the usage, it doesn't change the fact the usage exists and used by others.)
(If you have more to add about the matter, feel free to continue at the article's Talk page; like I said, the private elaboration is me trying to minimize the number of people that may find the example offensive seeing it.) --Sammm✦✧(talk) 21:18, January 24, 2019 (UTC)

Re: Help

Hey! I'm sorry to hear about the situation. You are not bothering me, but my User Right really doesn't give me the position to actively help out. Since this user is making inappropriate comments that can be seen as harassment, I think any Admins should be obliged to intervene. Also consider leaving a message at the following places: Harry Potter Wiki:Requests for administrator attention, User talk:Ironyak1, and User talk:Cubs Fan2007; though don't be discouraged if no actions are immediately taken, Admins are real people, too, and it happens when they couldn't swiftly respond. (Like pick one to leave a message, then wait a few days and if nothing happens, pick another option to leave a message and so on.)

If no help came and this situation continues to happen, I can only think of contacting FANDOM Staff for help at that point.

Good luck! Again, really sorry to hear about this. Hope it'll be resolved soon.

Chat suggestions

Hey there ThanatodoraSage,

I have a few suggestions for the Chat that you might want to consider. You don't have to go through with them, I am just throwing them out there lol.

  1. Chat Guidelines/Welcome to the Chat Message: In order for the chat to be civil and friendly, you need to have guidelines. These are up for you to decide, as you are the active Chat Moderator. I will also suggest to you to edit the Chat Welcome message with a link to the guidelines.
  2. Setting up a Block Policy: If you don't want to get in heated arguments with the people you ban about unfair blocks, I suggest you make a Chat block Policy. Such as "kicked 3 times= 1 week block" or something like that.

I hope you take these ideas into consideration, and if you have any questions, but me up on my talk page.

Re: Actor pages

Hi, Sage! I read your message a couple of times, and I'm sorry to say, I don't understand what it is exactly, you want me to do, or not do?

Separately, it somewhat makes sense; the first one you asked me to "leave around fifteen-twenty of those untouched"; as I'm still focusing on Forum:Treatment for similar images and HM articles, that was no problem; I have a few actor pages as tabs waiting to be fixed (those non-British ones), but it's a real small number (like less than 5 or something), and I'm not in the hurry of editing them.

But the edited message just really confused me... Like... why would I want the list? D; What is it for? --Sammm✦✧(talk) 23:12, February 15, 2019 (UTC)

Sage, I have extremely poor memory and my laptop is constantly out of space, unless it's to rant (if it is, please let me know), I prefer taking full advantage of Fandom's ability of preserving history, because if talking via chat, I'd have to resort to screenshooting so I won't forget the convo, which would take up space my laptop is already lacking. Sorry for the inconvenience. Again, if it's editing related, that's what talk pages are for. If it's not, and it's an emergency, then let me know and I'll see if I can join. That said, I'll be extremely busy the next couple of months, moving in RL so a lot of stuff to take care of. Just want to let you know cuz I'm not intentionally ignoring you, I just don't really have time to chat. (If you have Twitter, I'd even prefer that because there'd be a record. Can't emphasize enough that my memory sucks lol)
--Sammm✦✧(talk) 00:47, February 19, 2019 (UTC)

Re: CoS GIFs etc.

For GIFs; I used scripts to relocate films 4-6, so there should be nothing to check. If you are up to more sorting, there's correctly sorting images in Category:Images from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (film) to Category:Images from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 and Category:Images from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. I need to grasp how many GIFs there are to determine if it's worth creating GIF categories for both part, or if just one would suffice.

Thanks for the help so far!! =D --Sammm✦✧(talk) 00:47, February 19, 2019 (UTC)

Recommended edits

If you wanted some main namespace edits, the new 2017-2018 school year, 2018–2019 school year, etc... pages all need some work like Appearances should include Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (play), they all need a "Notes and references" sections with refs, the start/succession/end boxes should be at the end of the article, and there are plenty of events that need to be added to all of them. Just a suggestion for several similar pages that have some easy to sort out edits. Cheers --Ironyak1 (talk) 16:45, March 11, 2019 (UTC)

It'd be hypocritical of me if I say "I don't have an opinion" then proceed to share my thoughts that's obviously counted as an opinion of mine lol. In short, to me, this is one of those that'd take time. As noted in the application itself, the applicant hasn't been around for that long; that in itself is not the reason, but with Rights enabling deletion, a certain a mount of trust needs to be established, and imho, this kind of trust can't be formed in mere weeks. I am not saying the candidate is unsuitable, I'm saying I don't know him/her well enough to confidently make any statement. So far, they are the only recent User having actively tackled a long existing problem, which I find promising. That's about what I think. --Sammm✦✧(talk) 19:58, March 11, 2019 (UTC)

Re: Template help

Um, you need to be more specific? There's a lot of kinds of template, navbox, infobox, notice header etc. It really depends on what sort of template you want help with. If it's infoboxes, not that couldn't help but I'd suggest going through w:c:portability:Portable Infoboxes as that literally is the wiki Wikia/Fandom set up dedicating to the cause lol. If it's something else, I'd need specifics to know if I can help or not. There's also w:c:templates that's good for beginners; the general structures of basic templates are found there, and if you are on speaking terms with Admins/B-Crats on the wiki you got dragged into, you can just ask them to import the desired templates from Templates Wiki. --Sammm✦✧(talk) 20:12, March 18, 2019 (UTC)

RE Speculation

Agreed that those paragraphs are overly speculative, although it is probably worth noting that it unclear how certain individuals sorted in Slytherin, such as Crabbe & Goyle, exemplify the house traits. If you are looking for other simple edits, there are numerous small in-universe articles such as spells, plants, and such that should be in past tense. Cheers --Ironyak1 (talk) 17:38, June 9, 2019 (UTC)

RE Past-tense

The general policy is that articles should be in the past-tense, although based on the original vote there was an exception noted for real-world topics to be in the present tense as it does sound strange to say things like "bacon was a breakfast meat." As such, it makes sense for Seoul to be in the present-tense, although it does highlight the issue with real-world topics differing from the Potterverse as the mention of Seoul in the 1926 New York Ghost doesn't align with its name at the time under the control of the Empire of Japan. Regardless, bacon is a breakfast meat, although Harry Potter was a wizard that could have had bacon on a BLT, which is a type of sandwich served at Luchino Caffe, which was a cafe in London, which is a city, much like Seoul is. Hope that's all clear ;) --Ironyak1 (talk) 23:50, June 23, 2019 (UTC)

Hello Thaney. I know you hate the name, Sorry. Do you remember me? Okay, that sound creepy, but well, I haven’t contacted you in like four months. My apologies. Wait you didn’t actually die, did you? Ok now, I feel bad that i didn’t speak to you for along time before you died. Sincerely hoping you were being sarcastic, Katerina ——WaterFireWitch

Replying to your message. Hello

Oh sorry. I apologize for taking into account that things change. So it’s nice to see you again. No, your message did not make me feel bad with your general blunt honesty. So yes, hello, and goodbye? Hope to see you again. ——-Katerina

Hi, I hate to bother you but I noticed you have some potentially dangerous information on your page about Aconite. Under the description about the plant, it reads.

"Once widespread, this plant is now only found in wild places. Its flowers are useful in Potion-making, but its leaves are very toxic. The root of aconite can be used as a potion ingredient."

My friend took this to mean that the rest of the plant was not toxic during an rp and I worried that it might lead some people to think that they can ingest the root or other parts of the plant safety. The entire plant is poisonous, especially the root and reproductive structures. Also its actually quite often favored in horticultural settings for the interesting and beautiful morphology of the flowers.

I'm sorry to bother you with this but I thought it was important that I say something.
