Vanishing sickness was a magical illness which possibly caused the infected person's body parts to disappear. It was a contagious disease, provoked by a magical bug.[1]
History[]
In the 1890–1891 school year, a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry named Tasmina McLaggen was infected with the vanishing sickness. Having lost her head, she was sent to St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries.[2]
The section of "Magical Bugs" at St Mungo's Hospital treated this disease.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
- Xavier Rastrick was a famous wizard entertainer who vanished unexpectedly before the eyes of three-hundred people during a tap dance routine in 1836 and was never seen again. This might have been an instance of vanishing sickness or other unexplained magical phenomenon.
