The Vault of Ice was a secret room at the end of the Vanished Stairs, hidden by a wall on the fifth floor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, which was one of the five fabled Cursed Vaults that was said to have housed treasures and prophecies from before the time of the four founders of the school. If tampered with, this vault would unleash cursed ice that would encase all in its path.
In the 1985–1986 school year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Jacob's sibling and two friends ventured into the Vault of Ice to see what treasures lay inside. After having all melted the ice that covered the entrance door with the Fire-Making Spell, Jacob's sibling fought and defeated the Ice Knight after it emerged from the vault, allowing all three to safely enter the Vault.
When they opened the vault, they discovered Jacob's wand and notebook inside a column located within the middle of the Vault, allowing them to collect two very important belongings of their brother.
