This duel marked the end of Victor Rookwood's reign over the Rookwood Gang as well as the Highlands of Scotland.[1]

Events[]

The new fifth-year student of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry had spent the 1890–1891 school year looking for ways to thwart the Rookwood Gang and safeguard ancient magic from the likes of Rookwood and Ranrok.[2] The student's endeavours eventually resulted in the creation of the Keepers' wand at Ollivanders in Hogsmeade.[1]

There, Victor confronted the student. Interested both in the wand and the student's peculiar magical abilities, he offered the student the choice to join him, claiming they shared a common interest of destroying Ranrok. The student refused, leading to Victor Apparating them to a far-flung, bandit-run castle in the Highlands for a final duel.[1]

Numerous waves of Rookwood gang members accosted the student, which the student managed to fight back. Victor Rookwood cast Avada Kedavra, the Killing Curse, at the student once, but their spells locked and he failed. After several other waves, he attempted the curse again. As their spells once more locked, the student managed to defeat Rookwood when he overpowered his Killing Curse and rebounded it back at its caster, thus killing Victor Rookwood as well as his criminal network.[1]
