A vulture is a species of bird. It was one possible corporeal form of the Patronus Charm.[1]
History[]
Irma Pince, the Hogwarts librarian, was said to resemble an underfed vulture in appearance.[2][3][4]
Augusta Longbottom, a witch who was the grandmother of Neville Longbottom, often wore a stuffed vulture hat.[5][6] She wore this hat at St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries in December 1995, when she and Neville went to visit his parents in the Janus Thickey Ward.[5]
At Christmas 1993, when Albus Dumbledore pulled a Wizard Cracker with Severus Snape, a witch's hat with a stuffed vulture on top came out. This irritated Snape, as Neville Longbottom had previously made a Boggart in the shape of Snape wear his grandmother's clothes and hat, so he swapped it for a wizard's hat at once.[7]
At the wedding of William Weasley and Fleur Delacour, Elphias Doge referred to Rita Skeeter as a "vulture" to Harry Potter, whilst discussing her book The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore.[8]
