Walburga Black, born 1925 was the daughter of Pollux Black and Irma Crabbe. She married her second cousin Orion Black and had two children, Sirius and Regulus.
Walburga was a member of the traditionalist pure-blood Black Family, who looked down on any except other pureblood wizards. Her elder son Sirius was a severe disappointment to her, and was disinherited and removed from the Black family tree when he left home while still at school. She maintained a habit of erasing people from the family tree which stood in the hall of the family home at Number Twelve, Grimmauld Place, if they displeased her.
Her second son Regulus followed the family traditions and became his mothers favourite, and heir to the name, position and traditions of the Black family. However, Regulus became involved with death eaters and was killed after trying to leave the organisation. Her husband and brother also died in the same year. Orion was known to have been scared, and spending all he could on defences for his house before his death, but it is not known whether the deaths of the three Black males of fighting age, in the middle of the most severe part of the war with Voldemort, were related.
Walgurga's portrait remains magically fixed to the wall in the hallway of her family home, despite attempts to remove it. The picture shows an insane old woman, prone to screaming 'filthy half-breed' at anyone who disturbs the portrait. She survived the deaths of her family, but the destruction of it may account for her final madness.
