The Walter Aragon Wizard Chess Competition was a competition held during the 1988–1989 school year and was named after former Hogwarts Headmaster Walter Aragon. The winner would recieve the Walter Aragon Wizard Chess Competition trophy.[1]
History[]
During the 1988–1989 school year, this competition was held in Flourish and Blotts with the propietress of the shop, Madam Villanelle, acting as head judge. The rules required that only teams of four must compete, with each player bringing their own army. Each round saw the players from one team competing against the other, with one match per round being played on the centre board. It is unknown how rounds were scored, but Murphy McNully's team made it to the final round, where they faced off against Celine Castillon's team, with Jacob's sibling facing Celine on the centre board. Celine tried using the Dragon Variation of the Slytherin Defence, however Jacob's sibling had already thought up a counter to that strategy and successfully used it to defeat Celine, winning the trophy and breaking Beauxbatons Academy of Magic's undefeated streak of chess tournament victories.[1]
