A wand weigher was a brass instrument used to identify a wand's length, core material, and the length of time it has been used. One of these devices sat at the Security Desk in the Ministry of Magic Atrium. When a visitor entered the Ministry, they had to register their wand at the Security Desk, and this instrument was used. The wand would be placed upon the brass scale and a slip of parchment with the wand's specifications would come out of the machine. Eric Munch was the Security Guard who used the instrument when Harry Potter visited the Ministry in 1995.
