A warthog is a non-magical mammal found in Great Britain and worldwide.

In 1992, Rubeus Hagrid stated that he would like to own a Warthog.[3]

Behind the scenes

It is likely that a "warthog" is a synonymous term that can be used to refer to a warty hog. If that is the case, this creature is mentioned in the Grade 3 W.O.M.B.A.T. test, as the warty hog which, according to legend, led Rowena Ravenclaw to "a cliff by a lake" in a dream of hers. This is allegedly gave the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry both its name and location.[4]

  2. This name is used by Rowena Ravenclaw, the Wizarding Examinations Authority, and the students of Hogwarts are expected to be familiar with this term. Therefore, one can reasonably assume that "Warty hog" is a term in common usage among the Wizarding community as a whole.
