Llewellyn, and later Wellnelly, was the surname of a Quidditch-playing wizarding family, originally from Ty Draig in Caerphilly, Wales. By the 20th century, parts of the family were pure-blood and had moved far enough away that Durmstrang Institute was the preferred school for them.
Known family members[]
- Dilys Llewellyn - The mother of Dai.[2]
- Dai Llewellyn - "Dangerous" Dai Llewellyn was a famous Welsh Quidditch player for the Caerphilly Catapults. Known for his exciting and risk-taking flying, he went on holiday to Greece where he ended up getting eaten by a Chimaera. His death was mourned by Welsh witches and wizards, and the Dangerous Dai Commemorative Medal was named after him, awarded to the player who had performed the most exciting and foolhardy risks during a game. The St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries named a hospital ward after him, the 'Dangerous' Dai Llewellyn Ward: Serious Bites, and Kennilworthy Whisp wrote a biography about him entitled He Flew Like a Madman.[5]
- Gruffyd Wellnelly - Twin brother to Baglan, he first attended Durmstrang Institute before transferring to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He was a Seeker for his house team and raised a Chimaera called Chimmy alongside his brother.[6]
- Baglan Wellnelly - Twin brother to Gruffyd, he first attended Durmstrang Institute before transferring to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He was a Beater for his house team and raised a Chimaera called Chimmy alongside his brother.[6]
Etymology[]
- Wellnelly is an anglicisation of Llewellyn, a Welsh name, from whom they were descended.

Notes and references[]
- ↑ Durmstrang only admits Pure-blood students and as Gruffyd and Baglan Wellnelly attended the school, they must therefore be pure-bloods. Whether the family was always pure-blood back to the time of the Llewellyns is, however, unknown.
