The White Hart is a Muggle pub, located on Drury Lane in London, England. Some Muggles believe the White Hart to be the oldest pub in London, while others maintain that this claim to fame belongs to be the Angel on Bermondsey Wall, or the Lamb and Flag on Rose Street. However, the Leaky Cauldron on Charing Cross Road is actually the oldest pub in London, but since it has been hidden from Muggles, they remain unaware of this fact.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

  • According to Pottermore, the Leaky Cauldron was built in the early 16th century, and is older than the White Hart. However, according to the White Hart's official website, records show that a licenced premise has existed on the site (at the corner of Drury Lane and High Holborn) since 1216.[2] A pub called "The Whyte Hart Public House" was first recorded to exist on the site in the 15th century.[2][3] This means that, in reality, the White Hart would predate the Leaky Cauldron. It is possible that the White Hart was established at a later date in the Harry Potter universe than it was in reality, or that the Leaky Cauldron is the oldest pub in London in the sense that it has not undergone any renovations during the time it has existed (the White Hart was rebuilt in 1912).[3]
