- "He opened the telephone-box door. Harry stepped inside, wondering what on earth this was about. Mr Weasley folded himself in beside Harry and closed the door. It was a tight fit; Harry was jammed against the telephone apparatus, which was hanging crookedly from the wall as though a vandal had tried to rip it off."
- — Description[src]
A telephone box in Whitehall served as the visitor's entrance for the British Ministry of Magic headquarters. It was accessible via dialling 62442 (the word M-A-G-I-C), allowing them to make a connection to state their business, receive a badge, and then transport down into the Ministry.[1][2]
History[]
- "Arthur Weasley, Misuse of Muggle Artefacts Office, here to escort Harry Potter, who has been asked to attend a disciplinary hearing..."
- — Arthur Weasley to the woman's voice in a booth[src]
This entrance to ministry was only used for visitors.[1][2]
Harry and Arthur use the visitor's entrance
This entrance was used by Harry Potter and Arthur Weasley during Harry's hearing on 12 August 1995, to clear Harry of charges after the Dementor attack on him and his Muggle cousin Dudley Dursley at Little Whinging.[1]
Harry Potter used the entrance again on 18 June 1996 when he flew from Hogwarts to London via Thestral with his friends Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, Ginny Weasley, Neville Longbottom and Luna Lovegood to rescue his godfather Sirius Black, after he saw a false vision of Lord Voldemort torturing Black with Cruciatus Curse.[2]
Behind the scenes[]

A Ministry visitor entrance telephone box
- Oddly, the Ministry of Magic visitor's entrance remains in use even by the time of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. This is despite the fact that, while still in existence, telephone boxes have received a sharp decline in use due to the widespread adoption of mobile phones and therefore a telephone box that received frequent use would be seen as conspicuous in the modern day.
- Oddly, the visitor's entrance was still working instead being shut down after hours during the events surrounding the Battle of the Department of Mysteries. One possibility is that the Death Eaters somehow arranged it, and that there were a correlation between the unhindered entry of Harry and his peers, and the curious absence of someone to staff the Security Desk in the Atrium.
