The Wizard's Field Guide was a book owned by the British Ministry of Magic. It was bewitched to help young witches and wizards advance in their studies faster than usual if they fell behind. It could be loaned to the teachers of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to help late arrivals to the student body catch up to their classmates.[1]

Usage[]

The Wizard's Field Guide was imbued with the power to look out into the world and help the one using it to discover different opportunities to learn and grow. It filled itself out with new pages as the student learned new things, and there were over a hundred potential field guide pages to be found in Hogwarts Castle and throughout the surrounding grounds alone.[1]

History[]

At some point shortly before the 1890–1891 school year, the school learned of the existence of a young individual who would be admitted to Hogwarts as a fifth-year. Headmaster Phineas Nigellus Black worked with the Department of Magical Education to figure out a way to help the student catch up with their peers during their studies for the O.W.L.s. They loaned Professor Black the Wizard's Field Guide. On their first day, Professor Matilda Weasley gave the student their Field Guide.[2] The book was nearly empty at first, but it expanded throughout their explorations and with the progression of their knowledge.[2]

There were different types of Field Guide Pages which were revealed by using a specific charm on an object. The Field Guide Page had a short paragraph with information related to the object. There were over two hundred pages. Known content included:

Behind the scenes[]

"Pay attention to what's in your challenges and collection, and your legacy should be richer for it!"
— Alan Tew, Game Director[src]
  • Within the gameplay of Hogwarts Legacy, the Field Guide is the user interface for the player. It will represent what they have to do, expanding with a map for navigation when they discover new locations, activities, collectibles, and quests. It will display their Active Quests and Challenges to level up activities, track the player progression with Talents and gear upgrades and provide mission information.[2]
    • It will also keep information on everything the player has collected, their rewards and owl mail. For their school lessons, it will provide potion recipes, spellcrafts, potting help and beast compendiums. It will also tell the player what they are missing, keep an enemy log and any notes to be taken.[2]
