Year 5 in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery covers the 1988–1989 school year.

Chapters[]

Chapter 1: Year Five Begins[]

"You begin your fifth-year facing detention, a new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, and the promise of finally finding your brother in the next Cursed Vault."
— Year 5, Chapter 1 description[src]

The player returns to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and meets with their friends in the Great Hall. Penny introduces her sister Beatrice to the player. The player learns that Professor Dumbledore is absent from Hogwarts, so Professor McGonagall gives the welcome speech instead, introducing the new Defence Against the Dark Arts professor, Professor Rakepick.

The player proceeds to the library to meet with Bill, also meeting his younger brother Percy and Percy's pet rat Scabbers for the first time. Rakepick will appear and ask Bill and the player to follow her to the Training Grounds.

The player and Bill meet Rakepick on the training grounds along with Merula. She informs them that they have been hand-picked as her curse-breaking apprentices and teaches them the Incarcerous Spell.

The player meets Ben in the Clock Tower Courtyard to discuss the attack that happened last year. At the end of their conversation, a cloaked figure attacks both of them and informs the player that they are still needed but that one of their friends must die by the end of the year.

Chapter 2: Grave Danger[]

"A new Dark Wizard warns you that before this year ends, one of your friends will die. Unfortunately, it may happen sooner than you think..."
— Year 5, Chapter 2 description[src]

The player meets Merula and a mystery guest, who is Bill, at the Three Broomsticks. The player tells them that, in order to find the remaining vaults, they will have to work together. Suddenly, Penny rushes in saying that Beatrice is missing after she didn't return to her common room after class.

The player searches the Red Cap’s hole for clues with Merula, Bill, or Penny. The player notices Percy's rat Scabbers rummaging through the Red Cap's belongings. They head to the Spider's Lair next and are confronted by the acromantula they met the previous year, which the player is forced to duel.

The player meets Bill and Penny in the Potions classroom. Upon arriving, the player notices that Penny is brewing a potion to help her locate her sister. The player will assist her but after Penny drinks the potion, it doesn't work. Moments later, Merula will appear with the good news that she found Beatrice!

Everyone goes to the Grand Staircase and discovers that Beatrice is trapped in one of the portraits. Rakepick comes to the conclusion that Beatrice being stuck in a portrait is linked to the next Cursed Vault.

Chapter 3: Detention Before Extension[]

"You want to help your friends free Beatrice, but first you'll have to face your first day of detention, and your introduction to History of Magic."
— Year 5, Chapter 3 description[src]

The player goes to the Kitchens for detention where Pitts, the house-elf in charge, assigns them the task of making sandwiches. At the end of detention, the player meets Jae Kim, who was also given detention for smuggling banned items into Hogwarts and selling them. Jae offers the player an item free of charge since they're sharing detentions, and the player has a choice between Fizzing Whizzbees, a Probity Probe, and a Revealer. The player offers to have Jae join them in the library to research Beatrice's condition. Jae agrees, mentioning he's never been to the library before.

At the Library, the player introduces Jae to Rowan, Tulip, and Barnaby, and they study ways to help Beatrice. The player comes up with the idea that the portrait Beatrice is stuck in has been magically expanded, and decides to ask Professor Flitwick for more information.

In Charms class, Flitwick reveals that he agrees there is a chance the portrait has been expanded, and he teaches a class on the charm. After class, the player asks Flitwick how he thinks they can help Beatrice. Flitwick says he suggests letting the Professors and Ministry personnel find a solution. He adds that he knows that the player is "incapable of standing idly by" and suggests the player speak to Nearly Headless Nick.

The player finds Nick visiting Beatrice, and Nick reveals that sometime within the last decade, he remembered a rumour of someone being trapped in a painting in the Lower Chambers Portrait Corridor, but by the time he arrived, the person had already been freed, if they'd ever been trapped at all. The player questions the paintings surrounding Beatrice, and they reveal Beatrice touched the painting she is trapped in after she heard crackling and wings flapping coming from the portrait, and was immediately pulled into it. The portrait of Merlin says he believes the painting is a trap leading to "something much worse" and that an unknown person has been tampering with the portraits for some time. Nick suggests the player go speak to Badeea Ali in the courtyard since she experiments with painting magical portraits.

Chapter 4: Opposite Day[]

"You meet a new friend who has a creative solution for finding the next Cursed Vault and freeing Beatrice, leading you down an unexpected path."
— Year 5, Chapter 4 description[src]

In the courtyard, the player finds Badeea who, consumed with her art, does not pay much attention to anything else and hasn't heard of them. Badeea is painting Hogsmeade and enchanting the portrait to change from daytime to nighttime, with the village becoming covered in snow. She reveals she has been trying to paint Beatrice as the idea of both Beatrice being trapped somewhere "imaginary" and painting a portrait of someone who is trapped inside a portrait is fascinating to her. Badeea reveals she hasn't managed to make the portrait act like Beatrice yet, but she that she still has many spells to try. Badeea agrees to teach the player what she knows about magical portraits and at the end, she advises the player to take an innovative approach to their problem by doing things they'd normally never do.

In detention, the player meets Jae Kim again, and he reveals he's been trying to get Badeea to teach him how to apparate since she already knows how. The player decides to act as if they love serving detention, which Pitts says distracts the other house-elves and orders them not to return until they're once again "miserable".

The player meetings with Merula at the Three Broomsticks and flatters her until she agrees to help them save Beatrice, which works. Merula suggests that the player let her finish her current line of research while the player should attempt to track down the Marauder's Map since Rakepick is after it. Merula suggests asking Flich about it.

In the Great Hall, the player has Jae help them sneak Filch a gift, hoping the shock of it will put him in a good enough mood for the player to get answers to their questions. The gift is revealed to be a cake decorated with Mrs Norris's face in frosting and with frosted shackles around the sides of the cake. Filch declares it the happiest day of his life and - only because of that - agrees to speak to the player. Filch reveals he used to have the map but it was stolen from his office, and whomever did so made a mess of the place doing so. Filch suspects Peeves was the one who stole it.

Jae has the player meet him in the Defence Against the Dark Arts Classroom since he believes that it, being the nosiest and most destructive class, will appeal to Peeves. The player has the option of trying to get Peeves's attention by casting a spell, drinking a fire-breathing potion, or shouting for him. Peeves arrives and has trouble remembering anything about the Marauder's Map, but eventually remembers his "friend" said not to help them since he hates Jacob more than potions.

The player decides to ask Professor Snape if he knows anything about the Marauder's Map. After Potions class, the player speaks to Snape who, furious at the mention of the Marauders, refuses to speak about them. Instead he gives the player a warning that Penny Haywood has become consumed by the recent tragedy of losing her sister and that she will soon find a "more direct path to self-destruction".

Chapter 5: Penny, Portraits, Peace and Pressure[]

"Penny only knows of one way to take her mind off of her sister while you search for a way to break the curse. And you're the only person who can help her."
— Year 5, Chapter 5 description[src]

The player meetings Penny in the Grand Staircase, discovering she is deeply depressed about the situation with her sister. She feels that there is only one way to help her with her anxiety. She asks the player to help her collect some different ingredients: unicorn horn, porcupine quills, moonstone, and syrup of hellebore.

Once the player has all of the ingredients for the potion, they will help Penny brew a Draught of Peace in the Artefact Room. The player has the option to advise Penny to drink it. Penny tells the player she might be able to help with the search for the Cursed Vaults.

Chapter 6: The Ghosts of Hogwarts[]

"In your search for the Marauder's Map, you meet with all four house ghosts, and uncover a shocking revelation about your brother's past."
— Year 5, Chapter 6 description[src]

The player speaks with Penny who introduces them to the Fat Friar. The three discuss the Marauder's Map, and the Fat Friar suggests speaking with Nearly Headless Nick, certain that he knows something about it.

The player meets up with Charlie, Bill, Percy, and Nick in Jacob's room. Nick reveals Jacob had the map at one point, and the group begins to search the room for clues. The player finds a note about a friend of their brother's, Olivia Green, and decides to ask the Grey Lady since the friend was in Ravenclaw in Jacob's year.

The player takes three of their Ravenclaw friends and speaks with the Grey Lady, discovering that there was a third friend, whom they must ask the Bloody Baron about. The player meets with the Bloody Baron in the Potions classroom, along with Barnaby, Liz, Merula, and Ismelda. The Bloody Baron talks to them about their brother's past friend, Duncan Ashe, who is now a ghost, often at places where no one usually hangs around.

They look for Duncan in the Prefects' Bathroom and find him there. When they tell him who they are, he recognises their surname and becomes angry. He expresses hatred against Jacob because of his belief that his death was Jacob's fault. He also says that he isn't fully sure what exactly happened, so the player decides to find out what really happened.

Chapter 7: The Life and Death of Duncan Ashe[]

"Duncan Ashe knows where to find the Marauder's Map, but he blames your brother for his death. To discover the map's location, you'll need to uncover what happened."
— Year 5, Chapter 7 description[src]

The player delves deeper into the mystery of what happened to their brother's past friend, Duncan Ashe, by talking to people who knew him. They first talk to Hagrid who says that Duncan was a very mischievous student, and both he and Jacob were looking for new brooms after their old ones were broken.

The player than asks Madam Hooch, who comments that Duncan was an excellent flier - "absolutely fearless" - and even "too ambitious". She explains that Duncan's broom wasn't merely broken; it was annihilated. Since he was a troublemaker and a prankster, she suspected that something from Zonko's Joke Shop was the cause.

Knowing that Bilton Bilmes knew Duncan pretty well, the character proceeds to ask him about Duncan. The player learns that only three people knew what really happened to him: Duncan, Dumbledore, and Jacob.

Since Duncan refused to say anything on the matter and Dumbledore is still absent, the player meets Tulip and Merula in Jacob's room to search for clues again. The player discovers a note that reveals Jacob was, in fact, working with 'R'. The note also mentions centaurs.

The player heads to the Forest Grove to question Torvus, who isn't even aware that Duncan is dead. From what Torvus tells them, they suspect that Jacob was in charge of the search for the Cursed Vaults and, in his impatience, he pushed Duncan to brew an extra-powerful Erumpent Potion. The potion accidentally exploded resulting in Duncan's death.

The player decides to take this new information back to Duncan. They tell him what they believed to have happened, that Duncan believes Jacob was ultimately responsible for his death. Duncan responds by laughing. He says that although some of the information is true, not all of it is. He then explains that they were working for 'R' to find all of the Cursed Vaults. 'R' said that whomever lived the longest would earn the right to become the next member of their group. Neither Jacob or Duncan wanted to join this group, but R threatened to kill them and all their loved ones. 'R' was the one who forced Duncan to brew the potion that killed him; however, Duncan is still upset with Jacob because he didn't expose 'R' after Duncan's death. Instead, he took the blame himself and was expelled. Duncan is bitter that his true killer got away with it, and Jacob did nothing about it.

After Duncan explains this, the character asks where the Marauder's Map is, and Duncan says that Peeves traded it away because he couldn't use it. Duncan also says that the map isn't even needed to find the next vault, and that Mundungus Fletcher in Knockturn Alley knows something about it.

Chapter 8: Trial by Fire[]

"To show you're ready for the dangers of Knockturn Alley, you'll need to hone your skills, find a proper disguise, and prove your mettle against a living legend."
— Year 5, Chapter 8 description[src]

Since Jae has ample experience dealing with shady characters in Knockturn Alley, the player meets with him the Kitchens to discuss Mundungus. After serving detention together, Jae suggests using the Floo Network to travel to Knockturn Alley; however, in order to do so, the player needs to obtain some floo powder and find a fireplace connected to the Network. Luckily, the player saw Madam Rakepick using floo powder near the end of last year.

The player goes to the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom, where they ask Madam Rakepick about the floo powder. She is reluctant to teach them how to use is, and she decides that they'll require some additional training before stepping foot in Knockturn Alley.

Rakepick gathers the player, Bill, Merula, and Jae at the Training Grounds to practise their duelling skills. Once finished, she meets the player in the courtyard to test their improvisational skills. She sets Professor Snape's cloak on fire, triggering Filch to walk in her direction. The player resolves the situation smartly. She tells the player to go to the Forest Grove to face a dangerous foe, which turns out to be Professor Kettleburn's lost Chimaera. Liz arrives in time and gives the Chimaera some red meat to calm it down.

The player is summoned to the Library by Andre, who reveals he's been tasked by Rakepick with helping the player choose a proper outfit for Knockturn Alley. Once changed, they return to Andre who sends them to Rakepick to teach them how to use floo powder.

Chapter 9: Dangerous Friends[]

"Professor Rakepick is ready to teach you about Floo Powder, but first, you'll need to choose the perfect companion to face the dangers of Knockturn Alley."
— Year 5, Chapter 9 description[src]

The player meets Rakepick in the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom, who congratulates them on preparing well for the trip to Knockturn Alley. She suggests the player bring someone along, either Jae, Merula, or Bill. Whomever the player chooses meets them at the Three Broomsticks but requires some convincing before agreeing to undertake a dangerous mission.

Bill meets with the player at the training grounds to teach them, Jae, and Merula the Stunning Spell. The player then heads to the Great Hall for Rakepick's lesson on using floo powder, but she reveals that the only Hogwarts fireplace connected to the Floo Network is located in the Headmaster's office.

Chapter 10: Knockturn Alley[]

"It's time to use the Floo Network to enter Knockturn Alley, where you'll visit old friends, and make new enemies."
— Year 5, Chapter 10 description[src]

The player meets Rakepick in the Headmaster's office, along with the friend they previously chose to accompany them to Knockturn Alley. A quick conversation reveals that Dumbledore is unaware of Rakepick using his office. After explaining how travel via floo powder works, she throws the floo powder into the fireplace and asks the player to enter it.

The player and their friend travel to Diagon Alley, which is close enough to the intended location but much safer to travel to. They travel to Knockturn Alley and are immediately greeted by the gloomy and dark atmosphere, home to dark witches and wizards. The pair question the various dark denizens about Mundungus, learning that he recently lost a duel and is on his way to Ollivanders.

After arriving at Ollivanders, the pair learn that Mundungus doesn't actually have any problems with his wand, instead wanting to know more about the wand of the person who defeated him in a duel. Ollivander suggested to Mundungus that the best way to understand the incantations is to speak with a skilled linguist, specifically Madam Villanelle at Flourish and Blotts.

Madam Villanelle is busy at the moment and suggests that the player and their friend have a look around the store. They find a very old book by the medieval author Maerwynn Montfort, all of its pages oddly blank. Using one of two methods (either the Revealer from Jae or the Revelio charm) reveals a hidden message.

Before leaving, Madam Villanelle tells the player some interesting things about Mundungus and the mysterious wizard he duelled, a wizard dressed in white robes and baring a tattoo of a skeletal snake or dragon. Madam Villanelle suggested to Mundungus that is sounded like something one would find at Borgin and Burkes.

A return trip to Knockturn Alley is interrupted by a Dark witch who tries to extort something from the player, which leads the player to duelling her. Despite the player's success, several other Dark witches and wizards will prepare for an attack, only to be halted by Rakepick. She tells the player she apprehended Mundungus and he is waiting at the Three Broomsticks.

Chapter 11: Mundungus Fletcher[]

"Mundungus Fletcher will tell you who has the Marauder's Map, but you'll need to give him something in return..."
— Year 5, Chapter 11 description[src]

Rakepick introduces the player to Mundungus, who no longer has the Marauder's Map. Apparently, a mysterious man attacked him from behind, grabbed the map, and disappeared; however, he won't disclose all the details unless the player procures some rare items: venomous tentacula seeds, acromantula venom, and chimaera eggs.

The first item is found in the herbology classroom. Upon mentioning venomous tentacula seeds to Professor Sprout, she becomes suspicious and unwilling to help, requiring the player to collect them on their own. Tonks appears and the player explains the details of the plan to her, after which she is happy to help.

The second item is found in the spider's lair in the Forbidden Forest. Despite Tonk's efforts to help, the player has to duel the acromantula before collecting some of its venom.

The third item is found in the Care of Magical Creatures classroom. Kettleburn reveals, similar to the lost chimaera, the eggs have also disappeared. A quick search reveals one of the eggs but not before being noticed by Merula, who decides to accompany the player to Knockturn Alley.

The player meets Mundungus and hands over the items before discussing the Marauder's Map. He says the man who attacked him and stole the map transformed into something before heading back to Hogwarts, suggesting that it's the same cloaked figure who attached the player earlier. Mundungus also recalls that, after grabbing the map, the attacker said "I should have never let this slip through my fingers..."

Chapter 12: The Vault Portrait[]

"A mysterious portrait of a Cursed Vault could be the key to saving Beatrice, but what else will this key unlock?"
— Year 5, Chapter 12 description[src]

Following up on what they learned, the player meets Rakepick in the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom; however, she says she cannot share what information she has with the player for their own good but she does discuss some other important matters. She tells the player there is a certain portrait that could be far more important than the Marauder's map, a portrait of a Cursed Vault.

This leads the player to the Grand Staircase and Badeea, who suggests talking to other portraits to see if they know of such a portrait. Sadly, the player is unable to discern much from the other portraits, with the only thing being that Beatrice knows something, but the player has to somehow find a way to communicate with her.

The player meets their friends at the library to discuss the situation and ask for help, some of whom are quite sceptical about the whole thing. This leads to a heated argument with Tulip criticising Rakepick's lies and manipulations and Bill defending her teachings about curse breaking and even securing him a job at Gringotts. The group decides to use the library's resources to research the vault portrait, which proves to be fruitless.

Jae suggests talking to the house-elves to see if any of them know something that could help. Speaking to the house-elves in the kitchens reveals that someone asked one of the elves about the vault portrait, a Gryffindor student. Jae and the player search the Gryffindor common room, but Percy arrives and wants to report the player for breaking the rules by entering another House's common room as well as using magic outside the classroom. The player also learns that Scabbers is missing. The player offers to help find Scabbers in exchange for Percy's silence, which he agrees to.

The player travels to Hagrid's hut so see if he will lend Fang to help find Scabbers. Reluctant at first, Hagrid eventually agrees.

Chapter 13: Rats and Dogs[]

"Fang helps you track down Scabbers, and you find something that will change your life forever."
— Year 5, Chapter 13 description[src]

After arriving in the Forbidden Forest with Fang to search for Scabbers, the player meets Torvus who offers to help; however, Tovus and Jae appear to have a deal of some sort, each working on obtaining something for the other. When asked about it, Jae refuses to divulge more information. Fang discovers a set of rat footprints but no Scabbers.

Charlie summons the player to the Prefect's bathroom to continue the search. Fang discovers some breadcrumbs, which Jae confirms are from one of the sandwiches made in the kitchens, leading the group to search the kitchens. Other than Pitts scolding the group for bringing a dog into a place where food is prepared, no other clues are found.

The group heads to the Care of Magical Creatures class hoping to find a lead. Fang makes a discovery but it's shard of the cursed ice. The player comes to the conclusion that a visit should be made to the cursed corridor again to see if any clues about Scabbers appear.

Fang finds a bit of fur leading to the hidden staircase, which is revealed with Revelio. The three proceed upstairs and find Scabbers standing on an odd-looking piece of parchment near the entrance to the Ice Vault.

"Peeves may possess the vault portrait, but luring him out for long enough to get the portrait will be a challenge. You'll need some ghostly help to handle Peeves."
— Year 5, Chapter 21 description[src]

The player meets with Rakepick, Merula, and Bill to discuss Peeves. Rakepick mentions what the player discovered, but the player is met with suspicion from Merula for saying something they don't remember. Rakepick backs them up and the discussion leads to an idea to ask the ghosts on how to trap Peeves as Peeves won't give up the portrait willingly. Rakepick suggests to split up to cover more ground. The player takes either Bill or Merula to go with them to speak with the ghosts.

The house ghosts and Professor Binns prove to be thoroughly unhelpful, and the gang goes to speak with Duncan Ashe. Duncan says that Peeves won't give up the portrait willingly and that he will arrange a meeting with Peeves.

Chapter 22: Agent of Chaos[]

"Peeves has the portrait you want, and he'll only give it to you after you cause chaos all around Hogwarts. But how far will he make you go?"
— Year 5, Chapter 22 description[src]

The player meets with Duncan in the Courtyard. Duncan says that Peeves will only appear when chaos happens. Snape and Filch are in the Courtyard and the player has the option to set one of their cloaks on fire. Duncan creates a distraction and they evacuate the Courtyard. Peeves appears and says that the player will have to do some tasks that he will enjoy before he gives up the portrait.

The player does menial tasks like making the portraits fight, subduing Kettleburn's Chimaera again, and starting a food fight in the Kitchens before Peeves agrees to start negotiations for the portrait. He will only talk to Duncan about the portrait and he wants the player to bring something to "cause fun in the bath". The player goes with Tonks and Tulip to Zonko's to get the item. They get Frog Spawn Soap to fill up the bath.

The player goes to the Prefect's Bathroom to mess up the bath. They lob the soap in and hide. Duncan and Peeves appear to watch the show. Charlie then gets in the bath.

  • Switching spells are not learned until year five in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery; however, in the Harry Potter books, McGonagall tells Neville to make sure he doesn't embarrass Hogwarts by not being able to do a switching spell in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, where they were fourth year students.
    • This may not necessarily be an error, for the curriculum could have been updated.
  • Achievement "Ordinary Wizarding Level" happens after Chapter 24. There are, however, multiple classes in Chapter 25 onward. In Chapter 27, it is stated that the O.W.L.s has already happened, but there are still multiple classes to take. Things learned afterward did not come up in the test.

Fixed errors[]

  • Chapter 3 was added early, and the first task got completed with just one action. If a player managed to enter the kitchens, they talk about Mundungus Fletcher, something which should have only happened in Chapter 8.
    • This Chapter was later removed and players were sent back to task 5 of Chapter 2, and were given 150 energy in return.
    • The Chapter was added back two weeks later, and this time the glitches were fixed.
  • For a short while in Year 5, 5-star Defence Against the Dark Arts classes could be completed with just 45 energy in total, giving players a faster way to earn house points and crests for special events. This was, however, fixed after around a week.
  • When Muffliato was first featured as an upcoming Charms lesson in Year 5, around 7 March, 2019, it was incorrectly spelled as Muffilato; this was corrected on 21 March, 2019.

Continuity issues[]

In events that are chronologically set in the past, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery updates dialogues to match with the player's current progress; this results in continuity errors but is avoidable as long as players access the events before encountering major changes that happen to a friend, such as gaining a new personality, graduation, or death. Notable examples include:

  • In Chapter 17 onward, the player uses their new wand. This results in the player using their new wand in any new past Side Quests as well.
  • Achievement "The All-Wizard Tournament"
    • For players who have already completed Year 6 Chapter 18:
      • The death of Rowan Khanna is mentioned on several occasions, which does not take place until Year 6.
      • At the end when the winner is announced, Fred and George are present in the Great Hall even though they should not be attending Hogwarts yet.
      • The above aren't present for players who haven't reached to the specific plot point.

Mistakes[]

  • For all of Year 5, Bill is still wearing the Prefect badge, when, as a Head Boy, he should be wearing the Head Boy badge instead.
  • Throughout the year, Patricia Rakepick is referred to as "Madam Rakepick" in dialogues, even though she is now a professor and wants to be called "Professor Rakepick" herself.
  • For a long time, Draught of Peace, one of the Year 5 Potions, was never marked as completed. This was fixed at some point by 27 February 2020, however, as of 14 September, the potion was yet again marked as not completed.
  • For some players, Beatrice Haywood's head and arms appear detached from the rest of her body when she is stuck in a portrait.
  • As early as Chapter 1, Jae Kim and Badeea Ali can be interacted with in classes, but when the player meets them in the story, they are complete strangers.
  • In Chapter 2, the player might review the Impediment Jinx (which should not have been studied until Chapter 3), Hex-deflection (which should be studied in Chapter 2 after the study sessions), and how to handle Pixies (which should not have been studied until Chapter 7) in Defence Against the Dark Arts study sessions.
    • It is possible that the students have learned these during their early years, but due to the teachers being incompetent, studies from scratch are necessary later. If this is true, then it doesn't prevent them from reviewing them earlier.
  • In Chapter 3:
    • Hufflepuff students can be seen attending Charms class alongside Gryffindors and Rowan, even if the player is in a house other than Hufflepuff.
    • The player might also review the Impediment Jinx in Defence Against the Dark Arts study sessions before actually studying it.
  • The player is told to get a specific outfit for Knockturn Alley. However, in Chapter 10, the person who comes alongside Jacob's sibling wears their normal outfit instead of a disguise.
  • In Chapter 10, Ollivander says the player has the Hornbeam wand, regardless of which of the three wands they got in Year 1 Chapter 1.
    • In the Portuguese translation, the information given by Ollivander is even more incorrect. He refers to the wand as a birch wand,[6] which was not one of the original three options. He also gives the wand's length in centimetres, which contradicts the fact that wizards never went through the process of metrication.[7]
      • The latter, however, is not exactly a mistake as unit changes have been made in previously translated Harry Potter material as well.
  • In Chapter 14, Rowan mentions that they cannot wait to see their first Yeti. However, in the Christmas side quest, Rowan was with the player when they fought the Yeti.
  • In Chapter 16, Rakepick breaks the player's wand but they continue to use it in classes.
  • In Chapter 21:
  • In Chapter 27, the sentence "Thank you, Professor Kettleburn!" is shown to be said by Kettleburn himself, whereas it is intended to be said the player.
  • In Chapter 28, Diego Caplan will say he defeated a Troll with the player even if it was someone else that the player fought with in Chapter 26.
  • In Chapter 31, during Care of Magical Creatures, Rowan Khanna may ask Kettleburn whether the subject of the day, Flobberworm, will be on their O.W.L., even if the player have already completed it in the Ordinary Wizarding Levels adventure.
  • Percy Weasley can be seen in the Three Broomsticks Inn in Chapter 33 and the side quest "Dance, Duelling, and Diego!" despite only being a second year at the time and not old enough to go to Hogsmeade.
  • Side Quest "Yer a Prefect"
    • On the training grounds, two models of Elora Dunn briefly appear before the beginning of the duel.
    • During the meeting of the Prefects in the Three Broomsticks Inn, Bill Weasley states that he chose to not wear his robes and Prefect badge to the meeting. However, Bill is still wearing his Prefect badge at the meeting.
  • In Side Quest "Animagus Adventure", the name of the Jobberknoll is occasionally misspelled as "Jabberknoll."
  • The achievement "Valentine's Day" is placed in Year 5. However, its trigger chapter in Year 4 and the existence of the "Valentine's Day Ball" achievement indicate the former achievement should be set in Year 4.
  • Achievement "The All-Wizard Tournament"
  • Achievement "TICKET TO LOVE"
    • Despite being placed in Year 5, there are several indications that the quest should be set in Year 6 or later:
      • The quest is stated to take place shortly before and on Valentine's Day, but the Valentine's Day of Year 5 already happens in the achievement "VALENTINE'S DAY BALL" (originally "Valentine's Day", which was later changed to Year 4). "VALENTINE'S DAY BALL" involves Jacob's sibling being friends with Jae Kim and Badeea Ali, so the achievement cannot plausibly take place any earlier than Year 5, so "TICKET TO LOVE" should not take place before Year 6.
      • Millicent Bagnold is referred to as the former Minister for Magic. She held the position until 1990, and Valentine's Day of 1990 was in Year 6.
      • Jacob's sibling takes Potions class with Penny Haywood in addition to students from Slytherin and Gryffindor. This would make more sense for N.E.W.T. level (Year 6 or 7) Potions classes, as earlier years should only have two houses taking Potions together.

Notes and references[]

  1. The Acromantula mentions fighting Jacob's sibling in the past, meaning the side quest must take place after their first duel.
  2. This task depends on the player's choice.
  3. Elora Dunn, a first-year student in Year 5, can be seen in the background during this quest. The History of Magic classroom and Grand Staircase also appear as locations.
